Will it be possible to utilize Shale as a tank?

What would you use him for otherwise?

Yes. There's a thread in the spoiler section called 'Shale and Combat' you should read.

Maybe?

I don't think anyone really knows how he plays yet.

though without even reading anything on him, he is a giant animated pile of rocks, who crushes chickens... what else is he gonna do but tank in combat.

No, he's a fluffy, pink bunny. BioWare has truly turned fantasy conventions on their head with Dragon Age: Origins.

You make me LoLz.

I don't play WoW. What's a DPS?

Damage per second. Basically a pure damage class.

Damage per second. It means he can do steady damage to either a single opponant (rogues usually do this better) or a group of opponants.

A tank is not the same as a meat shield. They need to have abilities that grab threat (a monster's desire to attack you instead of the squishy healer) as well as some crowd control abilities. (in theory)

It's a piece of MMO terminology designed to describe a character in terms of their most basic functionality. In this case, Shale is expected to do a high amount of Damage Per Second (DPS).

Ahhh... I suppose that makes more sense than Detroit Public Schools.

Is it really going to be that rigidly different, though, in this format? I mean... this isn't an MMO - wouldn't your tank often be the same as your DPSer? Or is this like a Duelist vs a Champion sort of thing?

I guess it would really depend on his abilities.

Can he hold a shield / weapon combo or does he just have fists of rock?

Can you spec the sword & board skills?

Can you skill up the taunt type abilities that make a tank able to pull creatures off that poor cloth idiot who decided to be a tank?

Not at all. In Dragon Age a tank is a tank. If you have two tanks, you could have one do more damage, but if you have a single tank, they'll probably do less damange than anyone but the healer.

Those answers are in the thread I referenced. No, he cannot use a sword and shield. He has 12 different golem talents and can be augmented with crystals.

Thanks for that spoiler there Maria ... some of us would prefer to learn things by playing the game instead of going off to read about it.

Ahhh leave poor Maria alone. She's helping us nubs understand net lingo.

See, I played a rogue in DA:J. Martin could definitely take more pain than my main, AND was he doing a lot more DPSing. But, my main was hardly useless either. He dealt a reasonable amount of damage and wasn't getting whacked every fight either (unlike the healer dude).

I was slightly annoyed that the healer was a better archer than my rogue, though LOL

Let me get this striaght: You asked a bunch of questions, and then get pissed when someone answered one? If you'd prefer to learn by playing the game, WHY are you asking?

I just completed a run through with Shale as my tank. She can hold aggro on almost anything and doesn't require a ton of healing.
