What would you use him for otherwise?

I don't think anyone really knows how he plays yet.

Yes. There's a thread in the spoiler section called 'Shale and Combat' you should read.

Isn't he a giant rock?
No, he's a fluffy, pink bunny. BioWare has truly turned fantasy conventions on their head with Dragon Age: Origins.

I don't play WoW. What's a DPS?

Damage per second. It means he can do steady damage to either a single opponant (rogues usually do this better) or a group of opponants.
A tank is not the same as a meat shield. They need to have abilities that grab threat (a monster's desire to attack you instead of the squishy healer) as well as some crowd control abilities. (in theory)

Is it really going to be that rigidly different, though, in this format? I mean... this isn't an MMO - wouldn't your tank often be the same as your DPSer? Or is this like a Duelist vs a Champion sort of thing?

Can he hold a shield / weapon combo or does he just have fists of rock?
Can you spec the sword & board skills?
Can you skill up the taunt type abilities that make a tank able to pull creatures off that poor cloth idiot who decided to be a tank?

Ahhh... I suppose that makes more sense than Detroit Public Schools.

Not at all. In Dragon Age a tank is a tank. If you have two tanks, you could have one do more damage, but if you have a single tank, they'll probably do less damange than anyone but the healer.

I guess it would really depend on his abilities.

Those answers are in the thread I referenced. No, he cannot use a sword and shield. He has 12 different golem talents and can be augmented with crystals.

See, I played a rogue in DA:J. Martin could definitely take more pain than my main, AND was he doing a lot more DPSing. But, my main was hardly useless either. He dealt a reasonable amount of damage and wasn't getting whacked every fight either (unlike the healer dude).
I was slightly annoyed that the healer was a better archer than my rogue, though LOL

Thanks for that spoiler there Maria ... some of us would prefer to learn things by playing the game instead of going off to read about it.
Let me get this striaght: You asked a bunch of questions, and then get pissed when someone answered one? If you'd prefer to learn by playing the game, WHY are you asking?
