I'm hoping I'm wrong, but maybe this is tied into the quest in ME1 to get all those resources, like 20 gas, light metal, heavy metal, and rare resource. If so, then that is such a HUGE pain to do

It's not. I got 100 with the Playstation 3 version.

I got the 100. I mined only rich or good planets, and rarely to depletion. I had 500K+ of everything but eezo, which I had over 100k. 100% discovered. didn't use the shadow broker for resources.

Discovered planets: 100% (including areas accessible through DLC's)

Eeezo: aprox 117,000
All other Elements: 249,000 to 290,000 each
(after "researching" most of, or nearly all upgrades)

No "Poor" or "Moderate" planets mined
All "Rich" planets mined to "Good", with some left as "Rich"
All "Good" planets mined carefully to keep from becoming "Moderate", with the exception of about 1 or 2 planets

100 pts. obtained for the Mineral Resource War Asset

I scanned each planet pre-horizon, drained EACH of them, ended with more than 100,000 eezo, 200,000 platinum and 300,000 of the other 2 (all numbers rough estimate, but each is fairly close.  I actually had ~104K Eezo) .

Each planet POST Horizon that was scannable and plot/mission required (such as the N7 Mission for the Abandoned Mine) had Five(5) probes used (sometimes 10 if I was below 100K Eezo).

All this on my Third playthru.  And I don't own any consoles.

War Assets:  Mineral Resources:100

Hope this helps!

What about a combination all of it? Resources in ME1, having a depleated/scaned ratio and a high inventory of minerals?

I have one of each class, and each one was able to obtain the 100pt import value for mineral resources.
I did roughly the same thing on each character.

100% of planets were visited/explored
A minimun of one probe was fired at each planet that you can. Including three i believe are depleted to start with.
Each planet was taken down to the 'poor' reading on the scanner.  If the planet started out poor or depleted they still got the single probe that every other planet got.  Some were depleted through mining, but it wasn't a priority; if it happened it happened.

Rough range of resources across all six.

Eezo ~ 210k - 240k
Iridium ~ 950k - 1.2m
Platinum ~ 800k - 950k
Paladium ~ 970k - 1m

I would be lead to think that it has more to do with a ratio of explored/mined then actual numbers based on others who recieved the 100pt value.   I did also complete all ME1 exploration options on all six characters but am hesitant so see how that applies.

Eezo ~ 156k
Iridium ~ 783k
Platinum ~ 516k
Paladium ~ 621k

This was the resource count in my latest ME2 play through. Explored 100% of the galaxy, I opened the scanner on every planet to see their resource amount; all Rich planets were reduced to Depleted with a handful left Poor cause I couldn't find the last spike. I got the bonus 60k of each resource for importing a level 60 character from ME1 and I never used the Shadow Broker helper. Upon importing into ME3, Mineral Resource Asset = 100.

Hope this helps people.

Okay, on the off-chance of sounding condescending:

I would like all players out there considering wether the Mass Effect (1) is part of the war asset to take a deep breath,
think, and then smack themselves on the forehead.

Consider: in between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, Shepard is still working for the Alliance / Council. He is totally legit and there is no reason for him to mine minerals in the first place - he simply claims & surveys mineral deposits. Even if you are still inclined to think - well maybe he kept resources on the Normandy -

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE BEGINNING OF ME2!?
ahhh, right, the Normandy explodes....

now a quote from The War Assets entry in ME3:
Commander Shepard uncovered significant elemental deposits while scanning planets with the Normandy SR-2. When the Alliance dry-docked the Normandy, they seized all recovered elements. This material surplus has gone toward building the Prothean device discovered on Mars.

---------
Now as for my personal experience:

I don´t really mine towards all planets depleted, but rather towards the above mentioned ratio of
100k Eezo : 500k Rest
As far as I´ve researched on the web, there are certain bugs, that cause the war assets to flag incorrectly, if too many resources have been aquired (e.g. by editing savegame or using the Shadow Broker Base).

I just imported my ME2 character after replaying to get some extra assets. I got 100 for the minerals.

Minerals:
~282,740 for Paladium
~267,800 for Platinum
~293,679 for Iridium
~101,200 for Element Zero

I scanned and probed every planet that I came across, most only had one probe launched at them, but every one of them had one. I did most of my mining after Horizon and before the Collector Base, that's when I played Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival, and Overlord. Got some minerals from the Shadow Broker Base, but not much.

I had another character that I imported that got 25 asset, and they had more minerals than this character, so I'm not sure if the fact that I probed every planet this time helped or not.

I just scanned all high and good planets to depletion, same with all planets with anomaly, bought all upgrades and ended up with

200k Eezo
800k Iridium
500k Platinium
700k Palladium

100% explored (besides Arrival System, allready blew it up)

25 War Assets - What the heck...

I had roughly 100k of every resource when I imported my save... and got the 100 war asset.

I don't think this has anything to do with the amounts that you have, beyond having over 100 - this is pretty obviously bugged.

Ugh, this still isn't figured out?

Somebody PM Brenon Holmes and see if he can poke somebody to figure out what exactly it's checking in the import.

I really don't want to play through ME2 next time and probe every planet and then end up only getting 25 assets.

I know that ME3 reads the ME1 info from the ME2 save, maybe completing the resource collection from ME1 contributes to the war asset score? Just a thought.

Dont bother with this its a huge waste of time. 75 war assets one way or another isnt going to change much. I habe 1350 from Multiplayer promotions.

Interesting point. The save I uploaded that got the 100 war asset also happened to have been one where I acquired virtually all the minerals in ME1 too.

It's not about the assets. It's about doing it "right".

If it's possible to get 100 assets from minerals, then I'm going to get 100 assets from minerals.

Because we still haven't figured out how it works.

After looking at the results over three different imports I have an idea as to how to get the full 100.
Import 100,000 mined resources of all elements. This does not count resources gathered on
missions, the shadow broker base or through bonuses granted at the beginning of a new ME2 game.
Also I think if you import an amount that is very high, something over 500,000 the import glitches.
Just make sure before you import that you have at least 100,000 of each mineral that you mined
yourself.

*Casts spell of Necromancy*

Just finished a playthrough of ME2 and this was my import:
1. Had 520k of Iridium, Palladium, Plantinum, and Element Zero at 170k. This was after I had completed the Collector Base, every mission/assignment, and DLC; aka the entire game. Pre-Collector Base: Iridium, Palladium, and Platinum were at 450-470k, with Element Zero at 110k. (Every upgrade was purchased and researched both Pre and Post-Collector Base).

2. I scanned and depleted every star system that had a main storyline mission in it (not including the DLC systems such as Zaeed's loyalty mission and Arrival). For example: I scanned and depleted every planet in the Sahrabarik System (Omega). This includes recruitment, loyalty missions, and Horizon (Iera System) / Collector Ship (Balor System). I also scanned and depleted a few systems without main missions in them, such as the Dirada System with the N7: Anomalous Weather assignment.

3. I scanned and used at least 1 probe on every planet in the galaxy; usually just for that first mineral spike (DLC missions and Uranus included). On those with anomalies, I sent a 2nd probe to find that first mineral spike.

4. I did not use the Shadow Broker Ship delivery system or the mineral survey console. I was also careful not to get 500k or more of a given resource Pre Collector Base due to what the above poster mentioned.

Started up ME3 a couple hours ago and got to the point where you can access the War Room. 100 points for the Mineral Resources.

I got 100 war assets.
I think the key is putting at least one probe on every planet, after the main plot in ME2 I went to every system, so all systems on the map were 100% discovered.
I started the game with 50,000 of each element, and installed all upgrades on the ship (where needed mining planets to "depleted" to earn all the gun upgrades etc). When I was done probing every planet (and doing the side missions the probes discovered), I think I had about 100,000 Element Zero and I believe I had about 200,000 of the other elements. Then I just saved the game and started ME3.

Its not as vital these days to eek out every last war asset, as Bioware dropped it to 3100+ EMS to get the "best endings", but won''t stop me trying to get as many war assets as possible :P
