Indoctrination device on the Normandy

Vega constantly complained about hearing a hum that no one else, even Shepard, seemed to hear. The very first thing I guessed was an Indoctrination device has been sneaked on the Normandy, but could never find one. I figured it would be a side quest or Vega's companion quest or something, but nothing ever came of it.
Did anyone else hear Vega complaining about that? Did anyone actually find something suspicious on the Normandy?

would be interesting to see them come out and say oh btw the final part of act 3 never happened, you were 1/2 indoctrinated and dreaming. I mean with everything else they have done. I want to have hope for this sim, but as it looks right now...i prob wont touch it again for a few weeks.

Yeah, it was random between-mission chatter. That line just seemed so...out of place. And like I said in the hallucination theory thread, the last time there was an out of place, goofball, throwaway line like that it was Kaiden talking about the Conduit.

As much joy as that would bring me, I still think deep down I'd be angry that I bought a half finished story.

And I can't help but be reminded by a little segment in a movie after thinking about this: "For the memory of a Lifetime..."

Well for as much relevance as it might have to something more to the ending, I'm asking in the broader sense in terms of it having been a plothook that I just didn't find on my first playthrough, or the key to some dialogue or whatever.

Yeah I heard him say something but like you said nothing came of it so I figured it wasn't a big dealhumes spork wrote...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... this is indeed very much like Kaidan's seemingly "throw-away" comment on the Conduit statue, all up until the endings when it turned out he really was hearing it.humes spork wrote...

There are only 2 ways to get indoctrinated: Reaper implants or close prolonged exposure to a Reaper.
The implant theory wouldn't work. Shephard's implants are Cerberus in origin, before they had Reaper tech. Heck, this was before they even had Collector tech. Not to mention Garrus got the same implants in ME2 and he showed no signs. Also Reaper Implants have a tell-tale visible blue glow from the circuitry visible on the skin.
As for the proximity theory it also doesn't hold weight. A fast indoctrination turns the victum's mind to pudding, so it would have to be the slower insidious type (like with Saren). In ME2 the Cerberus scientists were inside a dead Reaper for weeks before signs started showing (hearing voices). Shephard hasn't had that much close contact with Reapers. About an hour or so when Sovereign was on the Citadel? Nope, since other people were on board and showed no signgs. At the Collector base fighting the Reaper embyro? Nope, you're squadmates showed no signs. In ME3 during the Reaper fights? Very doubtful and Shephard was never that close.
Shephard isn't indoctrinated in any way shape or form. The ending just was very badly written.

Well the indoctrination theory is nice and all but it's not what is happening. I think some people are just trying desperately to justify the god awful ending Bioware threw at us.

Ive mentioned this before I think but I found this a little telling, although didnt put it all together immediately ..
Think about the Rachni Queen encounter.
During the course of talking with her, she makes refrence to the Reaper Indoctrnation telling Shepard they sing the "Song of Oily Shadows"
If you think about Shepards dreams, her Oily Shadows/Whispers claim make perfect sense. Even more odd, he has the dreams through most of the game. So the indoctrnation theory, and the child being how Shepard possibly sees harbinger, does seem a possibility.
Shepard and his crew have been in limited, yet close contact with reaper tech, Collectors (also Reaper) throughout the series.
So the fact Indoctrnation could be having some affect slowly, would seem to make sense to me.

Perhaps the Reaper IFF has other uses than just some safe travel....

The ending just was very badly written.
Unless Shepard really has the strongest willpower in the galaxy, resistant enough to sudden indoctrination to hallucinate the final confrontation. But I will agree, the ending just raised more questions than it answered, which is an odd way to wrap up a series like Mass Effect. Could have been better written...unless it was purposely written to be really ambiguous and bizarre, in which case...I doff my cap to thee, Bioware.

There is a definite hum on the ship. Not engine noise.
It increases with intensity and changes as the game goes on. It is at its loudest after you take the cerberus base. Like annoyingly loud, its not just the normandy engines.
It was giving me a headache so I had to go around the ship with the volume turned most of the way down.
