I want to start with something rather clear. I SUPPORT the choices given at the end and how the game ended up until the little bit with the Normandy. However, being the bored person that I was, I spent the last 3-4 hours working on an 'alternative' fan script of how the endings possibly could have varied more and made sense still. I am not looking for a flame war here, you can take that drama somewhere else. I am just simply sharing variants I thought up and felt might need some serious consideration.

I don't expect Biowar to change the ending to the game anytime soon, or at all for that matter. It is what it is but those of you that hope for it will perhaps find interest in this. This is going to be a LONG post so bear with it and don't mind the formatting, that's how a script is written, in case you didn't know.

Constructive critisim and discussion only please. We're all adults, I'm sure some of us can act like it.

Meeting the Catalyst
EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION

The elevator takes Shepard to the outside of the Citadel,
where two machines on the left and right sit on either side
of a large chasm, each emitting a beam of light. A VI avatar
in the form of the boy that haunts Shepard’s dreams appears
and walks toward the wounded Commander as they struggle to
keep from fainting.

CATALYST
Wake up.

Shepard gets to his/her feet and looks around, seeing the
devastation of the space battle and Earth, its surface
decimated by the Reaper attack. His/Her attention turns to
the Catalyst, expressing recognition of the Catalyst’s form.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
Where... where am I?

CATALYST
The Citadel. It has been my home
since the beginning.

Shepard takes another moment to look around in awe and
wonder before looking back at the Catalyst

SHEPARD
(Confused)
Who are you?

CATALYST
I am the Catalyst.

SHEPARD
(Puzzled)
What... but, I thought the Citadel
was the Catalyst?

CATALYST
That is incorrect. The Citadel is a
part of me, as it always has been.

SHEPARD
(Desperate)
Then... you have to tell me how to
stop the Reapers!

CATALYST
Perhaps. I control the Reapers, for
they are my solution.
SHEPARD
(Surprised)
You... you control the Reapers?

As the Catalyst talks, it turns and starts walking towards
the middle chasm, Shepard limping behind as he/she tries to
get answers.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
Solution? Solution for what?

The Catalyst keeps walk, glancing back at Shepard for a
brief moment before reaching its destination, seemingly in
the middle of the area. Shepard follows, limping badly as
he/she continues to bleed out.

CATALYST
Chaos.

SHEPARD
I don’t understand...

CATALYST
The created will always rebel
against their creators, as they
have since the beginning.

The scene changes to a view of the two machines and the
chasm in the middle, the center beam of light unwavering

CATALYST
But we found a way to stop that
from happening. A solution that
would restore order for the next
cycle.

SHEPARD
(Startled)
By wiping out all organic life?
Why?!

The Catalyst stops at Shepard’s question, a few paces ahead
as they are almost standing in the center of the two
machines. The Catalyst looks back at Shepard again.

CATALYST
That is incorrect. We harvest
advanced civilizations and leave
the younger ones alone to continue
the next cycle.
The Catalyst turns around and starts walking forward again,
Shepard’s movements slowly as his/her injuries continue to
take their toll.

CATALYST
Just as we left your civilizations
alone during the last cycle. Now
your time has come.

SHEPARD
You... you wiped out the Protheans!

CATALYST
Incorrect. We helped them ascend so
they could make way for new life,
just as we are helping you ascend
to make way for the next cycle. We
stored previous life in Reaper
form.

Shepard looks up at Reaper as it passes by slowly, taking
fire from Turian and Alliance vessels.

SHEPARD
(Shocked)
The Reapers are... previous
civilizations? Other races you’ve
obliterated?!

CATALYST
Incorrect. As with previous cycles,
we helped them ascend and preserved
them in Reaper form.

SHEPARD
(Disgusted)
I think we’d rather keep our own
forms.

CATALYST
No, you can’t. Without us, on the
path you have taken, synthetics
will wipe out all organic life.
This is why the cycle was created,
to prevent you from destroying
yourselves.

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Options)
a) You’re taking away our future.
Without it, we have no hope!

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Options)
B) You can’t just preserve us! What
about our future? Do you believe us
that hopeless?

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
c) (If peace between Geth and
Quarian is achieved) That’s not
true! Organics and synthetics can
live in peace. There is hope, don’t
take it away from us.

SHEPARD
(Desperate)
Without hope... we might as well be
machines, programmed to do as we’re
told.

CATALYST
You misunderstand. You have hope,
more than you think. The fact that
you are standing here, the first
organic to make it this far, proves
it.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
You’re not making any sense.

CATAYLST
However, this has also proven that
my solution no longer works.

SHEPARD
(Hopeful)
Then... if it doesn’t work, call
off the Reapers!

CATALYST
No. A new solution must be chosen.

SHEPARD
New... solution?

The Catalyst turns towards the two machines and the beam of
light in the center.

CATALYST
Yes. A new solution must be
determined.
SHEPARD
(Unsure)
How?

CATALST
The Crucible. It is the key to the
new solution. However, I cannot
make the decision. You must.

SHEPARD
(Perplexed)
Me?

CATALYST
You are the first organic to
complete the Crucible, to find us
on the Citadel The decision must be
yours.

SHEPARD
Just.. what are you?

CATALYST
We are your protectors and your
architects. The Mass Relays and the
Citadel were left behind to ensure
that the cycle was never broken,
that organics would not be
destroyed by their own creations.

SHEPARD
But the Reapers... you, are
synthetics yourselves.

CATALYST
Incorrect. We have ascended above
organic and synthetic life. We have
achieved what no other could until
now.

The Catalyst looks towards the machine on the right,
Shepard’s gaze following.

CATALYST
We know you came here to destroy
us. If that is still your wish,
know that by doing so, you will
destroy all synthetic life,
including the Geth.

SHEPARD
Then all...
CATALYST
Even you are partly synthetic and
you will likely be destroyed as
well.

SHEPARD
But the Reapers will be destroyed,
right?

CATALYST
Yes. However, the peace will not
last and new synthetics will arise
and rebel and without the Reapers,
chaos will return and all organic
life will perish.

SHEPARD
That’s not for certain...

CATALYST
Do you believe that?

Shepard hesitates, looking at Catalyst in a mixture of pain
and confusion. He/she glances at the machine that is the key
to the destruction of the Reapers. The scene pans to the
machine on the left

CATALYST
Or do you believe you can control
us?

SHEPARD
Control...? The Illusive Man was
right then.

CATALYST
Yes, but he could have never taken
control because we controlled him.

SHEPARD
Then, how could I possibly control
the Reapers?

CATALYST
You will lose everything that you
are and die. In return, you will
take my place and choose how the
cycle continues.

SHEPARD
(Disbelief)
The... the Reapers will listen to
me? CATALYST
Yes.

The Catalyst turns to face the center chasm where the beam
of light is emmiting. Shepard turns and looks as well,
hunching over and trying not to collapse.

CATALYST
There is the last solution.

SHEPARD
Yeah?

CATALYST
Synthesis.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
And that will do what?

CATALYST
Add your energy, your life to the
Crucible’s and everything that you
are, that you have become will join
it and be sent out. The chain
reaction that follows will combine
all synthetic and organic life into
a new framework... new DNA.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
What? New DNA? I don’t
understand...

CATALYST
You do not have much time. You are
dying.

SHEPARD
(Sarcastic)
No ****... I... I don’t know.

CATALYST
Why not? Synthetics have already
become a part of your life and
societies. Could you imagine life
without them.

SHEPARD
I... I suppose not but that doesn’t
explain what the synthesis does.
How does it even work?
CATALYST
Synthesis is the final evolution of
life. However, it requires both to
make it a reality.

SHEPARD
Then... will there be peace?

CATALYST
Perhaps. The future will be your
own.

SHEPARD
So... no matter what, I’m not
walking out of this alive, am I?

CATALYST
You have a difficult decision to
make but it must be made soon.
Releaseing the energy of the
Crucible will end the cycle, but
will also result in the destruction
of the Mass Relays

SHEPARD
(Alarmed)
What?! The Mass Relays?

Shepard looks up at the darkness above, seeing the remains
of the fleet still fighting the Reapers. Debris floats
around everywhere, but this area of the Citadel seems
wholely unaffected.

CATALYST
The cycle must end and with them,
the Mass Relays that guided you
along our design. The paths are
open, you must make your choice.

Controlling the Reapers
EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - CONTROL OPTION

Shepard limps up the ramp to the machine on the left, eyes
the two apparatuses sparking in their mounts. He/she
hesitates for a moment, looking down at their bloodied
hands, shaking. Cautiously, Shepard takes hold of one rod,
then the other, release a wave of blue energy around them.

Shepard falls to his/her knees, letting go as their skin
starts to darken and glow with energy. A memory of Joker
shows for a second, then cuts back to Shepard pushing
themselves up and taking hold of the control device again.
Another memory of Anderson shows before cutting back to
Shepard desperately holding on as their body slowly but
surely is absorbed by the energy from the control unit.

The Catalyst is watching, then slowly fades away before
cutting to a memory of:

a) Shepard’s love interest

B) Kaiden or Ashely (depending on who’s alive)

c) Random living companion (if neither above options apply)

Shepards skin finishes darkening, taking on an synthetic
appearance for a few seconds before fading away.

**If Shepard has a love interest, he/she will whisper the
following before fading away.

SHEPARD
(Whispering, regretful)
[Love Interest’s Name], I’m sorry.

Scene changes to a the beam of light in the center, flaring
a bright blue as it powers the Crucible. The expulsion of
the energy field radiates out from the Citadel and covers
the Reapers and the remaing fleets, touching Earth as well.

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - CONTROL OPTION

Ground troops are still fighitng the Reaper forces, being
overwhelmed by Husks an Cannibals. Fighters pass through the
sky, the Reapers’ beams cutting through them and the ground.
A Destroyer falls out of the sky, its laser decimating part
of the wavering front line.

Suddenly the soldiers stop as they see the flash of blue
light and the resulting pulse wash over the area, including
the Reapers. The Reaper forces collapses suddenly and the
Reapers stand still as blue bolts of energy dance over them.
Finally, the Reapers leave, returning to the Citadel.

INT. ADMIRAL HACKETT’S FLAGSHIP - CONTROL OPTION

Admiral Hackett watches as the Citadel closes and the
Reapers stop fighting, going into a neutral stance and
flying off to somewhere beyond the Sol system

SOLDIER
Admiral, the Reapers are....
ADMIRAL HACKETT
Retreating. Shepard did it. Can you
raise the Commander?

SOLDIER
No sir. I’m getting no response.

ADMIRAL HACKETT
What about Anderson?

SOLDIER
Silence sir. No response at all.

Admiral Hackett wears a grim expressioin as he watches the
continued retreat of the Reapers.

[END SCENE]
-------------------------------------------------

Organic/Synethetic Synthesis

EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - SYNETHESIS OPTION

Shepard starts limping towards the center chasm, picking up
speed until they’re running in a limping sprint, lunging off
the edge and directly into the beam of energy. Skin starting
to darken and take on a synthetic appearance. Memoriese of
Joker and Anderson flash by as Shepard slowly starts to fall
apart and fades away.

The Catalyst is watching, then slowly fades away before
cutting to a memory of:

a) Shepard’s love interest

B) Kaiden or Ashely (depending on who’s alive)

c) Random living companion (if neither above options apply)

**If Shepard has a love interest, he/she will whisper the
following before fading away.

SHEPARD
(Whispering, regretful)
[Love Interest’s Name], I love you.

Scene changes to a the beam of light in the center, flaring

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - SYNETHESIS OPTION

The Reaper forces collapses suddenly and the
Reapers stand still as green bolts of energy dance over them
and the lights in the gaps of their plating glow green as
well. Finally, the Reapers leave, heading for the edges of
the Sol system.

From the ground, Shepard’s companions look up and see the
resulting explosion of the Citadel, a beam of green light
arcing away in the direction of the Sol Relay.

INT. NORMANDY SR-2 - cockpit - SYNTHESIS OPTION

Joker sees the explosion of the Citadel as he’s flying past,
the green light arcing past several ship lengths away from
the Normandy, setting off warnings and alarms.

**Scene will either remain the same or change back to ground
zero in London when one of the following happens:

a) Love interest attempts to hail Shepard on the comm link
with no response.

B) Kaiden or Ashely attempt to hail Shepard on the comm link
with no response

c) Joker will attempt to hail Shepard on the comm link with
no response.

[END SCENE]

Destroy the Reapers
EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - DESTRUCTION OPTION

Shepard walks up the right ramp, aiming their pistol at the
pylon in the machine. The bullets fracture the glass
encasing it.Shepard straightens up as they draw closer,
firing again until the glass shatters.

SHEPARD
Die you sons of...
The last shot damages the machine, then it erupts in a firey
explosion, throwing Shepard back at the same time it
consumes him/her. The beam charging the Crucible suddenly
flashes red and a fiery explusion of energy propels outwards
from the Citadel. The Reapers caught in the explosion cease
to function.

INT. GETH DREADNAUGHT - cockpit - DESTRUCTION OPTION

The energy field washes over the ship, short circuiting the
systems and causing every geth aboard to fall limp, the
light in their optics go out and lying still as their ships
lose power and hang amongst the fleet, lifeless.

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - DESTRUCTION OPTION

The Reaper forces collapses suddenly and the
Reapers stand still as red bolts of energy dance over them
and the lights between their plating goes out, the massive
Reapers collapsing where they stand. The ground forces cheer
in celebration.

Various shots of the remaining crews on the fleet
celebrating as the Reapers becoming inactive and stop their
attacks.

From the ground, Shepard’s companions look up and see the
resulting explosion of the Citadel, a beam of red light
arcing away in the direction of the Sol Relay.

**One of the following will happen

a) Love Interest attempts to hail Shepard on the comm link
and get no response

B) Kaiden or Ashely attempt to hail Shepard on the comm link
and get no response

c) Random living companion attempts to hail Shepard on the
comm link and ge no response. [END SCENE]

Resisting the Catalyst's Solutions - Alternative Ending
EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - RESISTANCE OPTION

**This option would be triggered by talking to Catalyst
instead of chosing one of the paths.

Shepard looks at all three paths and shakes his/her head,
looking directly at Catalyst.

SHEPARD
Thee has to be another way.

CATALYST
These are the solution. You must
choose if you wish to stop the
cycle.

SHEPARD
(Angry)
NO! These aren’t solutions at all.
I didn’t come all this way just to
roll over now. We can destroy the
Reapers without the Crucible or
you.

CATALYST
You will fail and the cycle will
continue until you and all other
advanced civilizations have been
ascended

SHEPARD
I’d like to see you try.

CATAYLST
Resistence is futile, Shepard. The
cycle will continue and another
will make it as far as you have in
the future.

The sound of a Reaper alerts Shepard and he/she turns to
find Harbinger descending on the area of the Citadel, the
contact of its armatures making the platform shake.

HARBINGER
Still you resist Shepard, but it
will not last much longer. Your
species is at an end.
SHEPARD
(Enraged)
Over my dead body!

HARBINGER
As you wish. This time, I will be
certain to destroy you.

One of Harbinger’s armatures comes down, the shockwave
knocking Shepard off their feet. Shepard pushes themselves
up, too wounded to move quickly and fires, pistol bullets
doing nothing against the Reaper. Harbinger raises its
armatures, revealing one of the laser cannons hidden
underneath. It starts to glow as the Reaper prepares to
fire.

A massive explosion hits the side of Harbinger’s body,
sending the Reaper off balance as the Normandy flies by,
banking to make another pass.

INT. NORMANDY SR-2 - cockpit - RESISTENCE OPTION

Joker works the controls on the Normandy, attention focused
solely on what he’s doing.

JOKER
(Determined)
Time to end this once and for all
you son of a ****.

EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - RESISTANCE OPTION

Harbinger raises an armature, laser narrowly missing the
Normandy as it dodges the attacks. More blasts erupt across
Harbinger’s body with seemingly no effect aside from
effectively distracting the Reaper while Shepard manages to
drag himself/herself to a safe area to hide. The Catalyst
appears before him.

CATALYST
What hope do you have of fighting
us?

SHEPARD
We want to live, on our terms and
if we have to fight to the death
for it, we will.

CATALYST
This is not our solution.
SHEPARD
You’re right, it’s not. It’s mine.

Ships from the Fifth Fleet join the fight, including Admiral
Hackett’s flag ship. They open fire on Harbinger, the Reaper
fighting back as its lasers cut through their fighters.

INT. ADMIRAL HACKETT’S FLAGSHIP - RESISTENCE OPTION

Admiral Hackett is standing at the CIC of his ship, watching
the displays as the ships target Harbinger.

ADMIRAL HACKETT
All ships focus fire on Harbinger,
give the Normandy an opening and
lets end this.

EXT. CITADEL - UNKNOWN LOCATION - RESISTANCE OPTION

The main guns and missle launchers on the ships open fire
all at once on Harbinger, completely dislodging the Reaper
from its position on the Citadel. More ships are cut down as
Harbinger unleashes its counter attack.

The Destiny Ascension suddenly joins the attack, followed by
several Turian and Geth fighters and dreadnaughts. The main
gun on the Destiny Ascension lances across Harbinger’s body,
making its barriers waver as its continually bombarded.

Back on the Citadele, Shepard chances a glace from where
he/she is hiding, trying to staunch the bleeding wounds as
much as possible.

JOKER
(Over comm)
Commander... zkt... Shepard, are
you there?"

SHEPARD
(Relief)
Joker?!

JOKER
Hang in there commander, we’ll have
a shuttle to get you out of there.

An explosion wrocks the Citadel as a missile misses its
mark. Catalyst’s appearance flickers for a moment, still
standing there and watching Shepard.
CATALYST
This is not our solution. This is
now how the cycle ends.

SHEPARD
Things change. Whatever you were in
the past, you’ve forgotten what it
means to have something to live
for. You’re nothing more than a
damn AI that thinks it’s a god.

CATALYST
Incorrect. We are not gods, we are
your protectors.

SHEPARD
You’re not protecting anything when
you kill everyone!

Shepard aims their pistol and fires at Catalyst several
times to no avail. Catalyst just stands there, watching.

Harbinger’s barriers finally fall after another combined
attack from the Destiny Ascension and the Fifth Fleet. Joker
turns the Normandy around for one final attack, coming up
from under Harbinger and aiming the main guns right at the
Reaper’s belly. Explosion blast off Harbinger’s plating
until one final, massive explosion results in the Reaper’s
death.

Shepard gets to their feet and watches the pieces of
Harbinger spin and float away, hearing Joker shouting for
joy over the comm. He turns to Catalyst as a shuttle is
being dropped on the other end where the elevator had come
up.

SHEPARD
We don’t need your protection.
We’ll make our own future

CATALYST
You are doomed to repeat the cycle.
Synthetics will rebel and destroy
all life as you know it, either in
this cycle or the next.

SHEPARD
Then I’ll deal with it when it
happens.

Shepard limps towards the shuttle, a medical crew coming out
immediately to tend to his/her injuries as the shuttle takes
them back to the Normandy.
The Reapers in space are slowly being defeated, allowing for
the remaining fleets to provide air support on the ground
finally as dawn breaks over London

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - RESISTENCE OPTION

The ground units are being pushed back by the Reaper forces,
front lines being decimated, counter measures being thwarted
as they struggle to take down the massive machines.
Shepard’s comapnions can be seen fighting along the front

I like the resistance option except for the fact that it's said over and over the reapers can not be defeated by conventional means.

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - RESISTENCE OPTION

The ground units are being pushed back by the Reaper forces,
front lines being decimated, counter measures being thwarted
as they struggle to take down the massive machines.
Shepard’s comapnions can be seen fighting along the front
lines as Maruaders, Brutes, and Banshees start to swarm in.

**If Military Effectiveness is not at, at least 3500, the
following scenarios may happen. The smaller the score, the
more likely multiple scenarios will occur.

a) Love interest is killed by a shot from a Marauder

B) Kaiden or Ashely take on a Banshee to provide the
front-lines precious seconds to retreat and do not survive
the fight.

c) Grunt or Wrex are killed after attempting to take on
several Brutes, killing three before they are finally killed
themselves.

d) EDI will be crushed under an overturned Mako attacked by
a Reaper laser beam.

The fleet start to fire upon the Reapers on the ground,
providing not only much needed relief for the ground troops,
but also taking out several Destroyer-class Reapers and
Sovreign-class Reapers upon the first strike.

By mid-day, the Reapers are in retreat from London and the
Normandy lands at the command center, reuniting Shepard with
surviving companions. Though still injuried, one of the
companions will place an assault rifle back in Shepard’s
hands.

COMPANION 1
Glad to have you back Shepard.

SHEPARD
Good to be back (Companion 1’s
name). We’ve still got plenty of
Reapers to kill. Let’s end this
war.

[END SCENE]
---------------------
Failure Ending

INT. CITADEL - CONTROL ROOM - FAILURE

*This ending would only occur if Military Effectiveness is
below 3000

Shepard limps into the control room to find Anderson already
there at the console. Anderson slowly turns, clearly not in
control of himself.

SHEPARD
(Shocked)
Anderson!

ANDERSON
(Struggling)
Shepard! I... I can’t... stop.

Shepard suddenly feels the effects of indoctrination as the
Illusive Man walks up behind him. Much of his skin has the
appearance of that of a Husk as he turns to face Shepard.

ILLUSIVE MAN
I underestimated you a great deal
Shepard.

SHEPARD
(Confused)
What... what’s happening... to...

ILLUSIVE MAN
You should have listened to my
warning. Controlling the Reapers is
the only way we’ll survive this.

Anderson continues to struggle, but is unable to move due to
the Illusive Man’s control.

ANDERSON
Don’t you... see? They’re...
controlling... you!

ILLUSIVE MAN
(cocky)
I don’t think so Admiral.

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
a) The Reapers cannot be
controlled. Let me destroy them and
this can all end. Now!
SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
B) Control them? Are you insane?!

SHEPARD
(Dialoge Option)
Paragon) You’ve seen what they can
do! There is no controlling them.

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
Renegade) I knew you couldn’t be
trusted. This is what you wanted
all along.

ILLUSIVE MAN
You will never understand Shepard,
what this means for humanity.

The Illusive Man begins to walk around the room as he talks,
occassionally looking out the window at the rest of the
Citadel or at Anderson and Shepard.

ILLUSIVE MAN
Ever sense we discovered the mass
relays, found that there was more
to this galaxy than we could ever
imagine... some thought the relays
should be destroyed. They fear what
we could find beyond them.
Terrified of what we might let in.

The Illusive Man pauses by the console, his attention
seemingly focused on just Anderson as Shepard helplessly
watches and listens.

ILLUSIVE MAN
But look at what humanity has a
achieved. With those discoveries,
we’ve achieved so much more than
anything in the past ten thousand
years! Harnessing the Reapers will
do the same for us, a thosand fold.

SHEPARD
You’re... insane...

ILLUSIVE MAN
Am I?

The indoctrination strengthens suddenly and Shepard cringes
in pain while is arm lifts up, pistol in his hand. Shepard
tries to fight it as he takes aim at Anderson, but finds
himself helpless.
ILLUSIVE MAN
We must harness the Reaper’s
ability to control others.

ANDERSON
Bull****! We destroy them... or...
they destroy us.

ILLUSIVE MAN
And waste this opportunity? Never

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
a) Listen to yourself. You’re...
under their control. We have the
Crucible, we can... end this.

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
B) You’re indoctrinated. They’re
using you... to protect them.

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
Paragon) Listen to yourself. You’re
indoctrinated, just like Saren was.
This has to end.

SHEPARD
(Dialouge Option)
Renegade) You’re already under
their control. The Reapers must be
destroyed!

ILLUSIVE MAN
No. There is only one way to use
the Crucible effectively. We must
control the Reapers.

ANDERSON
There’s... always another... way.

The Illusive Man stops his pacing and stares Anderson down,
Shepard continuing to struggle to lower his arm and point
the pistol at the ground or anywhere that was not Anderson.

ILLUSIVE MAN
I’ve dedicated my life to studying
the Reapers and I know for certain
the Crucible will give me control
of them.
SHEPARD
Once you... have them, then what?
Attack the other species?

ILLUSIVE MAN
You’ve seen their power Shepard,
witnessed first hand what the
Reapers are capable of doing!

The pistol goes off as the Illusive Man uses his
Reaper-given powers, Shepard unwillingly shooting Anderson
through the chest. There’s a look of disbelief on both their
faces as Anderson slumps over a little, clutcing at his
wound.

SHEPARD
You’re beyond saving now.

ILLUSIVE MAN
I took what they had and made it my
own! This is about something bigger
than me or you, Shepard. Why can’t
you see that?

ANDERSON
He’s wrong. Don’t... listen...

ILLUSIVE MAN
Who will you listen to Shepard? A
tired old soldier who can only see
the world down the barrel of a gun.
You’re better than that. What if
he’s wrong, Shepard? What if
controlling the Reapers is the only
solution?

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
a) I don’t trust you...

SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
B) Then use the Crucible to control
them and end this! What are you
waiting for?

SHEPARD
(Dialouge Option)
Paragon) What if you’re wrong? What
if you fail to control them?
SHEPARD
(Dialogue Option)
Renegade) What are you waiting for
then? You can’t do it, can you?

ILLUSIVE MAN
You doubt my ability Shepard?

SHEPARD
I know the Reapers. They have a
hold on you and they would never
let you take control of them.

ILLUSIVE MAN
(Angry)
No! I’m in control here!!

The pistol fires again and Anderson collapses on the ground,
dead. Shepard stares in horror as the Illusive Man draws
closer. Under the indoctrination’s influence, Shepard’s arm
shakily raises until the muzzle of the pistol is pressed
against his/her temple.

ILLUSIVE MAN
You underestimated me for the last
time Shepard. I am in control and
the Reapers will be mine.

The gun goes off, the Illusive Man forcing Shepard to commit
suicide. The pistol falls from the Commander’s hand as
he/she slumps over, dead. The Illusive Man starts to laugh
as he approached the cosole, activating the elevator to
reach the top platfrom on the top of the Citadel.

When faced with the control device, he finds Catalyst
waiting for him.

CATALYST
You cannot control them. The cycle
cannot be broken.

The Illusive Man ignores Catalyst and approaches the device,
placing his hands on both handles. The energy activates but
the Illusive Man suddenly realizes his mistake the second
before he is completely obliterated by the machine,
resulting in no reaction from the Crucible. Catalyst simple
watches, then disappears.

The Reapers gain the advantage as they continue to decimate
the fleets. The Quarians are nearly gone and most of the
Alliance has been destroyed. Admiral Hackett’s flagship has
suffered heavy damage. Harbinger comes to bear on the ship,
armatures wrapping around it until it is utterly crushed.
The Destiny Ascenion is swarmed by several Reapers, lasers
cutting through its barriers and sliicng the dreadnaught
ship of the Council into shrapnel. The surviving shipt try
to regroup but with the Admiral dead and no other leaders,
they are immediately hunted down and destroyed by the
Reapers.

The Normandy is seen being flanked by Reapers, dodging and
taking damage as it tries to escape to the relay. Harbinger
blindsides the Normandy, ripping the ship in half with its
attack

EXT. LONDON - GROUND ZERO - FAILURE

The Reapers and their forces are overwhelming the ground
troops, Reapers showing no mercy as they cut through every
counter measrue and tactic they can come up with. The
resistence is forced to give ground as they panick, Brutes
and Banshees decimating their foces as Cannibals and Husks
overwhelm them.

All of Shepard’s comanpions are killed during the retreat,
either by Reaper troops or from the Reaprs themselves. The
resistence is utterly crushed and the fleets are completely
destroyed, allowing for the cycle to continue.

I like the resistance option except for the fact that it's said over and over the reapers can not be defeated by conventional means.

ME1 has disproven this by the fact that Sovereign was destroyed by 'conventional' means. Plus, you can blow up Reapers with enough strikes to weaken their defenses. Conventional I believe meant more about modern and current military strategies and tactics rather than fire-power.

Love it! I liked all the endings for what they were, a definitive end and a glorious legend, but for the ending for my personal Shepard, I would choose your alternate ending. It was action pact and rung true for exactly how my Shepard would have done things! Love it, great job! Bioware, hire this woman! :)

I conpletely agree with you BlackDragonBane. If it was the firepower not being able to take out the Reapers, then we wouldnt have been able to do ANY damage to the Reapers at all thus making key points of the games story moot.

What's the damn point of organising the whole resources of the galaxy if you don't even try to beat them with those resources?
This is the first time the Reapers aren't in full control of the culling, it's perfectly logical to assume that if ALL of the galaxy is united that the Reapers would fall. High casualties, sure. But better than this insta-solution do-the-bidding-of-the-maniac garbage.

Oh and yeah I like it, it fits far better with ME1 and ME2's theme rather than the BS compromise we got.

Perhaps... there may be a hidden ending for those who complete all three, there by learning that none of the solutions is acceptable. RESIST DAMMIT!

I really wanted to create a showdown scene with Harbinger, but it really only fit if you could decide to resist making the decisions. Harbinger does have it out for Shepard after all.

I also wished to make Catalyst sound more like the AI/VI it's SUPPOSE to be, so I messed with the wording of the dialogue a bit.

My kids and I brainstormed our perfered endings - no details just shape -

crappy ending - you don't get enough resources and you never find the catalyst till to late - reapers crush the crucible - you hear it over the com from admiral hacket - the normandy and crew fly off to various 'garden planet' to bury her time capsules - you will bring hope the next cycle.

netrual ending - (or as my son calls it the DA1 ending ) Shepard is the catalyst only a being of incredibly strong will merged withthe machine can end the Reapers - or with right points or choices some member of crew can jump past you and leave you to grieve.

Good ending - close to same as neutral only you barely survive - ending is you being carried out on strecher - with your LI walking slowly beside holding your hand and the rest of the crew follows.

Five minutes and I came up with three better endings than the droids at Bioware.

I just want to know who to blame because some idiot thought this was a good idea.

I was actually surprised there was no 'failure' ending for ME3. Perfect opportunity with the Illusive Man, so I ran with it.

I also believe Mac Walters is the lead writer for Mass Effect 3

Good stuff. What angers me the most is that 99% of the Mass Effect series is about fighting for not only survival, but FREE WILL. And then the final 1% of the series completely undercuts that by forcing you to make a "choice" from an AI who is not interested in what you, humanity, or the rest of the galaxy, including allied Geth, think. All this BS about synthetics destined to kill their creators is stupid when Shepard proves that peace can be brokered AND that a synthetic (EDI) can fall in love with an organic.

so in your resistance option the higher the readiness means more survivors ya? Like a messed up ashley walking into the medical ward only to see shepard laying in a bed unconscious.

Gamer Granny, I really wish you had been the lead writer for this game.  Seriously.  What I can't understand is how the hell did the current endings make it past a single Bioware meeting.  There HAD to have been at least ONE person who said, "um... guys, I don't think these endings are going to fly with the majority of our playerbase.  C'mon, we love these characters as much as they do.  Let's give them a proper send-off."

Basically yes, I took the system used in ME2 and modified it. When you leave the rest of your companions to do the 'last stand' against the Collectors, each companion has a different defense score and if you have their loyalties or not determined who and how many died. I felt that the Military Readiness could be used to determine companion casualties in a 'resistant' based ending.

I also wonder how much of this is due to Drew Karpyshyn leaving as co-writer of Mass Effect 1 & 2. It almost feels like the endings were a big middle finger not only to fans, but to him, as well.

Endings definitely needed more to justify the consequences of the decisions and the Normandy part didn't make sense at all, but I wasn't even gonna try to sort that one out.

I thought about typing up possible epilogues for all the decisions but that's a lot of work and this scirpt alone took me awhile to sort out and write up.

It's probably my favorite scene and would have been cool to see, with seeing Shepard so close to the end and only have the Illusive Man thwart, him, then pay for his recklesness later.
