This may well be the biggest problem I had with the ending, aside from the obvious lack of choice. Commander Shepard is, quite blatantly, the holy savior.

One man rises up to show humanity the true path. He preaches a coming apocalypse if we don't heed his words, and develops a following of dedicated individuals and fans, but still the people of the world won't listen. The world is trapped in an endless cycle of death and destruction, organics try to 'play god' or break the rules and end up causing their own destruction. To stop this, a massive all powerful force wipes out all but the pure and young of the world every once in a while. But this man, "the Shepard", is an organic gifted with the wisdom of the dead and the synthetic. He must sacrifice himself to put an end to the galactic cycle of growth, unworthiness, and purging. Ultimately, his death (when betrayed by men who don't accept him as the savior) gives the galaxy forgiveness, and lets the species of the world leave their evil technological or warring ways behind and return in union to the garden of eden.

I may not have put it well, but if you think about it the similarities are quite disheartening. You're better than this, BioWare. I mean... "tell me another story about the Shepard"? Really?

Yes, I really hated the phrase "The Shepard". It seemed so ridiculous.

............Damn it. You right. Walking inside of walls instead of over water though, and unlimited bullets instead of fish.

I dunno. I liked it, seemed final. Was totally put off by the idea of someone banging Jesus-Shep's Liara, though...

Agreed. I know Shepard's the hero of Mass Effect, a bloody hero, etc, etc, but his/her role in the storyline is way too important. He/She basically decides the fate of the ENTIRE galaxy by him/herself. It's annoying.

I agree. Shepard leading humanity to defeat the reaper by martial means would be enough. Being the sole savior who saves everyone with varying shades of space magic is too much.

Well, the parallels only work if you play Shep a certain way.

If you're complaing about the the hero of a story being a Christ figure you must not like many films or books, as the Christ-like savior archetype has been used countless times throughout media.

That must be why I don't like a lot of that ****.... lol

It's also annoying because it's a much older myth then Christians like to admit.

I just think that, after having the player invest so much into the people around Shepard of the years, forcing you into a "kill yourself or humanity dies" cookie-cutter choiceless ending invalidates absolutely everything that the player has worked for, and the series has stood for.

A lot of people chose the "control" ending because you can interpret it to mean your consciousness ascends and you become the reaper king. Though actually now that i think about it, you can make a christ argument for that too, as christ ascends to heaven to be at the right hand of the father. Nevermind :?

Wow, this is so true. S/he even dies and comes back to life, lol. Just another reason to play FemShep, I guess. Although ME3 still royally sucked as far as the ending went.

I was hoping for something in the middle. The heroic jesus messiah can certainly be a powerful ending, but it is used quite frequently.

I would have liked something in the middle, akin to Ender's game.
In the book, Ender saves the world from destruction, but he himself is unable to enjoy the world he just saved. He sacrifices his childhood, his life, to do it (just not his survival)

Maybe something along the lines of this, I don't know. I was hoping for a difficult to achieve ending where the galactic civilizations don't revert back to basically being primitive animals They have to start from scratch with the entire definition of technology as they know it. Star ships will be pointless when you can't go anywhere and don't have the fuel to do so anyway.

I just finished my 1st play through, I'm still organizing my thoughts. Every time I try to wrap my head around the idea of the Normandy crash landing on a random planet. Why wasn't something more meaningful replaced with this clip? What are we supposed to take from it? Congrats, now the normandy crew must survive by themselves on an island with too few people to actually produce a viable population, mete out a miserable existence, and die never seeing anyone else ever. (let alone Shepard)

In short, I do find power in the idea of the hero sacrificing himself to save everyone else. Only... he didn't save everyone else, because they're all screwed regardless. Anyway, best game ever, until the final ending clip.

It's really amazing what a simple winter solstice will bring out in humans for thousands of years. >.>

On a more serious note, let's keep it honest guys... they tried to pull a Matrix Revolutions 2.0. It failed... miserably.
