ending was bad. but what Mac accomplished over the course of the rest of the game was terrific

I strongly disagree ... the endings are just the straw that is breaking the camel's back here. The story has problems from the minute it starts. That f*cking kid (why are is the player invested in some nameless civilian ?), Anderson not being on the council (withouth explanation), The complete lack of back story on Dr. Eva on mars (until the end of the game & that's just if you stop to smell the roses). The entire story for this game is fragmented & worst of all ... it assumes you read all the comics, & tie-in novels. And then it tries to merge that cluster f*ck of contradiction into a game called Mass Effect 3.

Yeah, the kid...yeah why care about him...he just represents all the billions of nameless in the ME universe that the reapers are killing. I guess thats too abstract for you. You only care for the people you interact with and disregard the entire plot of the game since ME1...save the GALAXY from the reapers. Not your LI..Not your buddies. Thats not what ME was ever about.

Anderson and the council..You must just skip past voice scenes because Anderson himself stated why he quit. Try paying attention when playing.

Eva on mars seemed pretty fleshed out. She was a cerberus plant. What more needs said there. Sure there was a tidbit about her at the end. Big deal. I knew since mars she was a cerberus op, she needed her butt capped off. Nuff said.

Hopefully Walters is a good enough man to take criticism and realize where he went awry. I don't think it was malicious: when you're doing high level plotting, setting up themes, trying to make stuff fit, you can easily lose track of what the player is actually experiencing. I get the feeling that Walters doesn't have his own personal Shep that he's been with through the whole serious, to get a player's perspective. And as the lead writer, doing that is almost impossible.

I do wish Bioware had had the oversight and failsafes in place to tell him that he screwed up though. I'm sure some people were thinking it, but weren't in a position to actually do anything.

I agree with this.

There is still the story about the Dark Energy... he was on ME2, why not keep going with that on ME3 ? It was a great idea. Instead of that we get again the same organic vs syntetics BS like Matrix/Terminator/Transformers/...

I want him to explain. He loves do it, go on google and you will see many ITW of him.

First in response to the Tali photo thing, the fan made one was fantastic, that should have been put in game, as a tribute to a well done fan art. That would have been a really nice touch/gesture towards the fan community. Compared to going to a free to use image and photo shopping it. Was that an intern project or something? Cause as a tali fan I was kinda going huh by the hand thing, but was going to let it pass. And then I saw the photo comparison, and am like, wow really?

Secondly yea, whoever was responsible for the ending, Mac Walters apparently the one who is going to take the blame for this. Fine, whoever in the end was responsible for this, I wont be playing games where they are a writer for.

I thought shepard is wearing the charred remains of the armor after being hit with the reaper beam, although how does a human wearing nothing but an armored hardsuit survive a weapon that cuts Dreadnaughts in two is beyond me.

Because only Chuck Norris or Commander Shepard could survive such a blast

Don't overhype the Reapers weapons ;) I still argue we could have beaten them at the end battle with guns!

It wasn't the main gun and it wasn't a direct hit. So i dont understand why Shepard is so close to death after that.

As for the end...yeah not very creative. It seemed like a cross of the matrix and contact.

In contact the woman Elle traveled through a space bridge to meet aliens...and they took the shape of her dead father to make her more at ease, thats the deal with the kid as well. Pulling a thought from your mind to make it easier to deal with, if it was a cannibal or a husk we probably would rather shoot it.

The final choice. Thats been done thousands of times..but it was not inspiring and has been done before. Not impressive and lazy is about all I can say there.

And I dont really need to go into the ending. Thats been done thousands of times..but it was not inspiring and has been done before. Not impressive and lazy is about all I can say there.

All the endings are so similar save for a colour change of the magic lights VERY lazy imo.

Im afraid to go to earth, I dont want to see the endings on my TV, Youtube helps to dull the pain due to Lack of no "Earn your Happy Ending". I would have been content if Shep and Anderson could have pulled a ME1 suprise GOTYA! ending. Both of them walking out with a "we did it" grin.....one can dream.

I'll take point.

Just realized that Mock Effect 3 could easily be about uniting all the fanboys for a massive fleet action against the writers.

The ending although generic...uninspired...ect..They looked ok and were fun to do in that respect. The earth space battle was awesome, the gameplay on earth was kinda brutal at times. Its that last 10 mins that kinda make your scratch you head and go...really bioware? Really? Other than that I liked ME 3 alot.

I do not know who wrote which part of the story. It just seems to me he's a convenient target people want to focus on. Is this a lynch mob pronouncing guilt on whoever they can catch?

Even if he did write the endings which people find so disagreeable, someone has to look through it and sign off on it. He can't just simply write whatever he wants and put it in the game. Who knows? Maybe he wrote some sappy victory parade, backslapping and toasting, sexytime with LI ending and the higher-ups say, "No no no"

Moreover, he's a writer. The notion some people think he's somehow responsible for Tali's pictures makes me laugh. People are really just ganging up on him, but I'm not surprised. He doesn't have any powers to change the game now, even if you email him. If you want new content that satisfies you, email the ones who actually has the power to decide.

People are angry. We havent recieved a direct response to this whole psychotic episode they induced on us. We know they know we are angry and we know they know we know that they know. An actual response would be nice. Preferebly before the return date expires on my collectors edition.

Agreed..Picking up a pitchfork and naming a victim..pointless. This ending was a failure on multiple levels. Dont single out one guy...as a matter of fact Im betting he wanted a broader story. Fact is he was pidgenholed which is why you see such a lack of creativity. Reading the community posts and my own thoughts we could have done a better ending asleep. It probably came down to a deal like artwork cant do all this, devs dont want to write this code, we dont have the time, ect ect. Lets make this all blend as easy as we can...thus the ending we have. Bad move? definatly.

Mac Walters, please do this: www.pcgamer.com/2012/03/07/deus-ex-human-revolution-designer-on-boss-fights-we-are-truly-sorry/

The link is safe and not some stupid meme or motivational, its a response from a Deus Ex dev apologizing for a decision made in the game and admitting its stupidity and rush out the door.

Guys Mac has been writing Mass Effect since the beginning so you DO like his writing cause you liked ME1, ME2, and before the ending ME3. Remember there were leaks that there was an ultimate happy ending that got cut? He probably wrote that ending. I'm thinking everything they created got slimmed down and cut cause they ran out of time or money. Remember the problem here is the lack of exposition. The endings wouldn't have seemed that bad if we had been told who lived and who died, what the situation was for the crew and galaxy. It was probably written just never implemented.

It has united a portion of the fans, hopefully Bioware will listen, if nothing else it seems Mac Walters is now the enemy of at least 11,000 peopleImage IPB
