I have decided that I will try to write an ending that conbines what everyone is saying on these boards. I will then send this to every Bioware rep/writer/dev that I can find an E-mail for. So, I'd like everyone to start listing what we want in our endings. Since this game is about choice, it should not be hard to include every ending that everyone wants.
Here's the list so far, of greaveances with the end of the game. Please, add to them so I know what to write. If something on the list conflicts with something you want, put a "/" by it. For example: Hate the ending/love the ending. Once I have enough input, I will spend a few hours trying to write an ending that will suit most people on the board, and would be simple enough and agreeable enough for Bioware to use.
LIST:
Shepard surviving
Preserve Mass Relays and citadel
Epilogue explaining what happens to galaxy
Cut out the God-child
Do not want the Normandy to crash
Copy and paste the list please, don't quote.
So.... What do we want in our endings?

an ending that does not involve using a completely arse-pulled mcguffin like the current incarnation of the catalyst, needlessly complicating the plot, and that instead treats it like it is (a weapon), finishing the reapers via facilitated conventional warfare, and having everything flow from there, epilogue-wise, depending on the different war assets one gathered (and without randomly killing people for the lulz unless war asset numbers are REALLY crappy)

I just wanna see/know what happens to the races/fleets/squad members.... why the hell Joker was way out there... if the relays blew everything to bits and pieces like at the end of the Arrival DLC... how do the others remember Shepard present day?... how/do the other races in the fleets get back home with the relays gone? Do the quarians ever rebuild their homeworld? Did palaven make it?
Leaving me with nothing doesn't answer any of those questions....

I wanted all the war assets gathered to actually count for a real outcome.
I.E being able to have all those assets deployed against the reapers directly with results varying from total defeat to great victory, based on the military strenght.

not having to wipe out geth/EDI in best ending
our war assets having a bigger effect on the outcome (and not be affected by multiplayer)
A paragon/renegade choice that fits with the series' themes and not some trash philosophy coloured lights decision

1. Ending that make sense. Story would fit Shepard's characteristic and personality.
2. Different ending should not share the same movie. How pissed you are when you see the only difference between these movies are COLORS?
3. More clear and conclusive description on each important character and race.
4. The most important thing is that THE ENDING SHOULD SHOW HOW ALL MY DECISIONS TURN OUT. Just like what DA:O does but in a more dynamic way. Not just static text description.
5. Where are my rachni/krogan/quarian army in the final battle? Where are my other crews? Could they play more important roles in the final battle? Just like ME2?

I would've liked to have confronted and killed TIM at the Cerberus HQ and faced down the Reapers the old-fashioned way instead of having this out-of-nowhere metaphysical garbage forced on us in the last 15 minutes of the game.
Plus the Epilogue where I find out if curing the Genophage was a good idea or not, if the Quarians and Geth continued to maintain peace, if the Rachni became a menace once again, what happened after the battle for Earth in general, and numerous other things that were left completely unresolved.
Maybe when we find out the "ending" was a hallucination and we finally get the actually FINISH the fight will we get to see all of that.

Let's see, going over the list of important plot decisions, there's:
1 - Save/kill Rachni queen
2 - Kept/killed Wrex
3 - Save/sacrifice Council
4 - Save/destroy Maelon's data
5 - Rewrite/destroy heretic Geths
6 - Disabled/destroyed Collector base
Each of these choices are binary, so it's simple to figure out how many possible combinations there are: 2^6. These variables do not create an "infinite" number of possible states for the overall game plot, it creates 64.
Now I don't expect Bioware to create 64 ending movies, however I didn't expect them to shoehorn it into 3 endings (each with near-identical movies in a different hue) with minor variations determined only by the EMS either. It's fine to have three choices, I would just like for the movies to be more varied and influenced by plot choices, not by EMS.

I really only want something simple, Drew Karpyshyn is not the lead writer anymore so I never expected the ending he wanted. I want something that make a true change ( ok, I really mean a litle) depending of the war assets/reputation/EMS.
I have really bad preparation to the final push: Good ol' Harby death beams shepard just before the beam, cut scene to a bloddy shepard and his whole crew and the combined fleets losing the fight. Show a litle epilogue of the reapers erradicating all form of sapient life to prepare the next cycle and then leave back to dark space.
I have a so-so readiness. Two different endings unlock: Have some sort of final boss fight, you know something that is not some random marauder on my way. Screw the god-child/creator/whatever the writers decided it was when they were drunk or stoned. Have instead a final talk with our friend Harbinger (really, Bioware we talk with some random reaper on Rannoch but the leader/biggest mofo of the reaper's fleet is ignored?) the two choices given all game long are given, follow TIM and control the reapers or follow Anderson and destroy them. Shepard did not bring enough firepower to weaken the reaper fleet, he must then syphon power from the relay's sacrificing them, the citadel and ultimately himself to achieve his means. Cut to an epilogue where we see what our choices regarding the other races either isolated from each other. End it on maybe a monument of shepard/his team.
I have an epic army fleet: Same **** as above, however the reapers have been weaken enough to not sacrifice the relays. Cut to an epilogue of people making another citadel ( I do not know if they can move it back?) Have shepard en his life with his LI or with cats or whatever, Iwas never really good with happy endings/ butterflies and rainbows.
Also explain the reapers as something more understanding than we are robots protecting you from robots killing you, so we decided to kill you all. Plan B: Allow me to shoot the god-child and have a horrible ending. Worth it imo.

Is anyone happy with the way it ended?
I'm not. Sure, it could have been worse, but I didn't expect a game with so many choices to have so few actually matter to the end. I expected some sort of epilogue. Flying around in the Normandy seeing, at least in the short term, how everyone ended up.
Not only did I not get that, but the biggest disappointment of all was that the Mass Effect universe has been changed forever. More than any character I was in love with the setting. We all knew that Shepard's story was over, but I wanted more closure for his/her story than "which way is your avatar going to sacrifice themself?" I also desperately wanted hope that even though Shepard's story was over there would be ME games in the future telling the story of the next generation's hero. Seeing as how, no matter the ending, the entire universe was changed, that is fairly impossible.
Love the game, but the ending makes me unhappy. Why is it that the great sci-fi stories of recent years always seem to fall on their backs when it comes to making a conclusion (ME, Lost, BSG etc)?

What would I have wanted? I might have put a little bit of thought in it...
To start off, I would have implemented more cutscenes showing off the true immensity of this battle. Like in Mass Effect 1, where after a few minutes of gameplay, we're treated to some absolutely thrilling scenes ofthe battle above. I want to see the groups I spent time recruiting in the fight, seeing the armadas above in desperate knife fight battles with the Reapers. On the ground as well, seeing characters who I know (Zaeed and Jack, for example) leading fighters through the streets of London. If we didn't take the time to recruit, or certain characters died in our past, we'd be seeing more and more scenes of Alliance soldiers getting hit hard. This is war, on an unimaginably huge scale. Yet after the opening charge and a few scattered shots of ground battles, we only see Shepard's fight. I would have loved to see the Reaper's lines broken long enough for the Catalyst to be brought through, and a force of Rachni and Geth ambushing husks and cannibals. I got the distinct impression that I had done a whole lot of recruiting to build up this awesome force for the epic final battle, and after the opening fusillades very little is seen.
The treatment of the catalyst was a little iffy for me. I would have preferred that this superweapon we've been building was in fact a weapon. Not some goofy 'Turn-off' button for the Reapers, but possibly a giant laser or something (Seriously, Death Star laser). That way, we have the big item we need to turn the tide, but no instant end to the war. After the Earth battle, the catalyst would be taken to every war-front necessary, helping win the fight. As Vigil said, it takes a long time to exterminate a species. I doubt the Reaper horde would go down in a single shot from an uber gun, but it sets it up for the epilogue we've been waiting for. Also, since the war won't be won in a single battle, this allows for DLC and such to happen after Earth, like the retaking of Omega.
Really, a Fallout: New Vegas slideshow would have been perfect. Possibly with the old man narrating, or some main character who would connect to fans (Anderson, possibly), we hear about what happened because of the choices we made. What happened (In the short term, at least) to the Krogan, the Quarian/Geth, to the crew of the Normandy (The ones who survived, anyhow), etc.
As for Shepard, I loved the final scene with Anderson. Seriously, the Catalyst was about to win the game for us, and I got to have one last view with my old pal. If the Commander would have died there, I would have been satisfied. Death doesn't bother me. A TV show or movie once said it right. This isn't some squad battle, no matter how tough. In war, people still die. And if I had died bringing about the happiness of the characters I have grown to love, I would be cool with it. Alternatively, for someone who was absolutely prepared, had done everything right, you should be able to have the opportunity to live the rest of your days the way you want.
And if you want to have the God-child in the ending, do it! But make it happen in a sensicle way, that fits in with the primary themes and motivations of the established games. I enjoyed the Dark-matter choice I saw on the forums a little while ago, even if that doesn't work for everyone. I say the God should have been the final mark of the race who created, and were subsequently destroyed by, the Reapers. He has been waiting for countless millenia for the day that the mortal races finish their final project, the Crucible, and break this cycle of destruction. I mean, honestly, when you talked with Sovereign (and on a lesser extent, Harbinger. The guy just didn't have the menace of the first Reaper, in my opinion), did you say to yourself, "He must be working for someone." NO! The Reapers annhilated organic life like it was nothing for untold millions of years. And not for some cyber diety with delusions of synthetic control. "But why didn't the exterminate all life?" some ask. Because they're working on the map records obtained in their initial assault on the Citadel. The Reapers aren't going to explore every single star system in the galaxy looking for a single planet with apes on it. They're going to exterminate the advanced races, and come back when they know the new races have progressed to Harvest stage. Simple explanation.
I loved the game. I loved the buildup. I even loved every second of the final fight to the moment you transcended in a beam of light. But the ending was not satisfactory, in my opinion. All I have done, is state what I would think would be pretty cool.

Most of all, I wish the developers would come down to BSN and read threads like this, and understand that we love the game that they have worked so hard on, and as such, only want it to be the best ending possible.
It's a lot to ask for, but Bioware has shown a willingness to listen to the fans on several occasions before. I hope the trend continues.

Overall, what must be cut:
The "godchild"
The Normandy crash (Or at least have them crash somewhere near earth.)
No (total) Mass Relay destruction (Maybe overload them to where they no longer work, but not destruction)
The Stargazer (Or if you're gonna keep it, change everything else first)
What must be added in:
A better chance of Shepard Surviving.
No matter if Shep survives or not, allow the LI to know and emote what happened to Shep. (If Shep lives, allow them to reunite and have a moment or something. If they don't, there needs to be something there that says "Hey, he/she cared." Not just "Derp derp, getting out of the Normandy derp")
What must be altered:
The three choices. In fact, add a new choice. OR change them completely.
I think the ending might work best bittersweet, but the varying degree of bitter and sweet should depend on what Shepard you play.
What should be added:
An Epilogue. If they can't explain things in a cinematic, they need an epilogue. Although, they need the above things first in order to make it work.

I think the "canon" should have been shepard dying to save the majority, or much of the galactic population by destroying the reapers alone.
I was fully anticipating Shepard saving most of the galaxy in number-half maybe. I also thought Shepard would have to sacrifice himself. Then after the wake ending there would be an LI short ending of about 30 seconds where 5 years in the future we see:
-Liara looking out towards a beautiful sky, and then towards a large statue, and a beautiful memorial dedicated to Shepard-- running her fingers across the stone.
Liara: "I miss you Shepard."
Little Girl: "Was Daddy really that tall?"
Liara: " No. ...... " Picks up daughter. "But he was that handsome."
Little Girl: "Motheeerrrrrrr....."
The two start walking off
Liara: " Did I ever tell you about how your father........." Voice fades out...cue awesome music.
-Tali is standing in front of a house on Rannoch. She is touching a plant and looks out to a panoramic view. She starts to take off her mask. Tali inhales deeply, and exhales...... (our only glimpse of her face).
Tali: "Thank you Shepard. "
The screen pans back and see a smile and a slight tear......fade to awesome music.....
Some variation or the same feeling as the above....That's what I was thinking I'd get....

Add the possibility to really save Anderson. And then, make him sacrifice himself instead of Shepard.
Also, a DA:O ending would be great.
