Why can't the Reapers fight the synthetics of each cycle?

Because then we wouldn't get to hear Harbinger lob sub-bass robotic threats at us throughout the whole second game. Ergo, there would be no Harbinger Windows 7 Theme.

Part of the reaper purpose is ensuring that new life has a chance to flourish and grow. In order for this to happen, old life needs to be destroyed.
This is an interpretation that is not stated anywhere in the game.
As long as we're making crap up, I submit that the Reapers are powered by hamster treadmills.
I'm sorry about your hostility. But the Catalyst does say that.

Forgive me for not showing this earlier.
Right so by that logic, every mum should die after giving birth for her child to have a chance to flourish.
Makes perfect sense.
Reapers WTF are you doing get the hell off my mum!
Now you know that isn't the point.
Think about it. As an advanced space age civilization, you aren't just going to let some new upstart rise up and take your place are you? You're going to slap his **** down so that you can stay on top. You're going to kill him so that there is no chance that he will become powerful enough to threaten you. The Reapers know that.
Do you get the picture now?

Make me a catalyst instead.
I'll withold the element zero tech from the organic which will probably set them a good 100k years before they figure out how to create machines of galactic destruction. When such machine is created I'll have the reapers aid the current galaxy in ridding those machines.
hummmmm.
second thought that's way too much work and way too logical screw life I'll just destroy everything instead.

Not really.
By your logic, America should've bombed China back into kansas back in the 60s when they're just a raising star.
America should've bombed Japan a second time around the 70s. By your logic, Asasri, being the most advanced race should've ripped humans to shred before they got themselves FTLs.
Why didn't they?
Because civilization can work together.
Sentient beings aren't sheeps. They know what come after destructions won't do anyone any good.
Just assuming every civilization is out to destroy others eventually is extremely stupid and reapers are supposed to have intelligence above every known organics in the galaxy. Turns out they're no smarter than a simple VI and they don't know shiz.
Do you get the picture now?

Apparently you ask too much from Bioware writer. The simplest thing they can get it wrong.
If there's one thing I learned from Mass effect 3's ending is that, being a writer myself, I've severely overestimated bioware writer's abilities.
Reapers intention should've been left a mysery, much like Tali's face.
They're supposed to be incomprehensible.
But instead BW couldn't resist the urge to info dump right at the very end and the result is pretty much the biggest backlash in video game history from fans.

Wait no you see the geth didn't want to fight anyone and wanted peace so they actually hacked the geth into fighting other people to destroy the organic races so they could save all organics from being destroyed by... synthetics....
wait.
About there is where I'd stop and think "wow what the hell is wrong with me that idea just now did not make sense whatsoever. Focus, man, focus. Write a better ending, you can do this!'
But apparently bioware writes stopped and think "oh wow I think i just outdid myself. " and said to the lead designers "I have yet to meet a challenge I can't conquer."

How in the world did ANYONE in ANY of Bioware's meetings not say, "um, guys... this **** doesn't make sense."
Maybe because they discussed plots for future titles, and created the endings to lead into the new plot(s). This is largely why we're confused. The endings don't even indicate what's next after the Reapers. For three games we were lead to believe that the Reapers were the ulimate beings of the Universe, then suddently the Catalyst Avatar shows up and says "No silly. NAO DO AZ I SAIZ!"
We're confused, because the game indicates VERY little on what comes after the reapers, and how the different ending choices actually affect the survivors. If we had any hints or clarifications, then I'm sure we'd be slightly less outraged.
As is, I'm still pissed about the endings. I stayed loyal to the franchise since ME1 and this is what I'm left with? Rushed much?

Steptroll is right. He's merely stating their role in the galaxy. He's not saying that they are right. He's simply stating facts. You are not, you're refuting his logic which is based on the facts of the story. The Reapers don't give two ****s about making nice with other civilizations. Like he said, they wish to destroy all civilizations before they can reach that technological singularity, but they also wish to harvest these civilizations as a means of reproduction at the end of every cycle. That's why they let them grow. No one here is pretending that they're the nice guys. No one. Which is why the ending sucks, because we all want Shepard to say screw off but he can't.
It's dumb.

What difference is that to the primitive culture if they are wiped out by the Asari now, or to be wiped by the reapers 50k years from now? Reapers is wiping out civilizations to prevent civilizations from being wiped out? And just so they can wipe out the civilizations they saved the next cycle? yeah, I find the reaper's concern for other cultures bit hard to accept.
