I have yet to finish the game but I must state how happy I am with the way yall did the same sex romances. It is great that my character could be a decent guy and not have to be an ass when those of that lifestyle existed in the game.

I never though gay people shouldn't exist in games, but it was never done right in past attempts. You guys finally figured it out.

So thank you Bioware, continue to evolve this medium. You are one of the few devolpers that can bring some respectabilty to this thing we all love.

P.S. Dyslexic and lazy, please forgive any typos.

I have no problem with someones sexual preference, but i thought this game went a bit overboard. Im all for adding new features that keep players interested and if thats same sex relationships fine, but dont shove it down my throat.
I havent completed the game yet but so far i am yet to walk around the citadel without overhearing same-sex couples talking, and cortez has said his "husband" in pretty much every sentece. nevery his "partner" or "love" or anything like that they have him specifically say husband= hes gay i get it

And BioWare. I don't thank you at all.
What should I thank you for?
I wanted to romance Ash since ME1. In ME3 there were so many discussions, that VS will be available for s/s.
Now I'm dissapointed. Kaidan has been available for s/s. But why did you left Ashley?
I don't care about Liara. And Traynor and Allers - I'll not even bother to comment, it was awful, didn't even start romancing them, didn't even think about it. Bleh. Cortez was WAY, WAY better.
You gave me hope, that my Shep will finally be able to romance her, after all this time... And now what? NOTHING.
Thank you for leaving my Shepard FOREVER ALONE.

I know you will do nothing about it. There are so many people who used mods in previous games. We all hope to achieve this without mods. But no, you don't care about us.
Please, at least make a DLC, that femSheps would be able to romance her... (yes, I know you won't make it)

i barely saw any gay people in the game. Dont shove your straightness down mine. I think next game Bioware should make it all gay and see how you like it.

That's how people talk, I would refer to my wife as "my wife" not "my partner", "my love" is ok, but I wouldn't use it unless I was feeling romantic, and romance is the furthest thing from Cortez's mind in most of ME3.

What's so offensive about the word husband over partner or love?

I can possibly understand people being upset that he talks about his husband so much but you're complaining about the word he uses??

It's how nice to see some "I am okay with it but..." post whenever same sex relationship threads pop up.

I also thank Bioware for what they accomplish with Mass Effect 3. Not only on gay romances front but making a science fiction product which has a room for emotions. I always thought fantasy fiction is a better medium for playing romances but you proved me wrong and I am very happy about it.

Thanks for everything. You did great.

I found it incredibly surprising when Cortez talked about his husband. I may be a Roman Catholic, but my belief doesn't drive to to be prejudice against homosexuals and I'm glad to see they received adequate representation in this game, in particular. Most of them, you honestly couldn't tell.

So agreed; good job on this aspect. :)

Last time I checked gay people means also gay women. And if you haven't read forum discussions, I have to say one thing - they didn't bother to give the same attention to lesbian romances as they did with gay male ones.

Aside of Liara, about whom Casey Hudson specifically said that she's not same sex option (so even if we know that's lie, Bioware stance has cheapened it forever), there's only one lesbian romance, which actually is not romance - there's barely any dialogue in it, it's uncomparable in both quantity of interaction and quality of it to Steve Cortez, gay male counterpart, even though he's also not a squad member (actually, it feels worse even if compared to Kelly, which was just a fling). But of course there is facepalm "hot shower girl on girl scene", so it really feels like "lesbian option" is there only for straight guys, since all they put the effort into was embarassing sex scene, not conversations.

So let's summarize it - lesbians got "discount lesbian" romance and a mere fling called as a romance, while you guys got two full fledged, treated with respect, real gay romances. So much of Bioware's inclusive treatment.

Hopefully there will be more unique characters in future games so there will be something for everyone :).

I'm not sure about that, at least if we talk about ME devs games. They did something only because people kept pressure on them with all those ME3 s/s romance threads (with ME2, no one discussed it since everyone took it for granted that there will be s/s romances, and we ended up with absolutely nothing). But apparently since gay guys dominated those threads (no wonder, since lesbians had substitute to lesbian romance in Liara, and they had nothing), devs came to conclusion that if people talk mainly about gay male romances, they don't have to bother about developing lesbian ones.

Take a note it was different with Dragon Age devs - it felt like they really cared about equality and often discussed those matters on forum.

I just meant future role playing games. :) I don't know that much about the dragon age "situation".

There's an entire scene when you go down to the Shuttle Bay where he's playing back logs of him with his husband during their final moments. I don't remember at which point this was.

As a gay video gamer, I was excited to hear that same-sex romance options were available for both female/male Shepards. Personally, I wanted to go after Kaidan, so I was so happy when I had the chance to romance him when I got the game. Even though I'm quite happy about the same-sex options, I noticed that some things were a little off.

For a gay male Shepard, only Cortez and Kaidan were available to choose from. What if I wanted Jacob, Thane, or even Garrus? And also speaking on behalf of lesbian gamers, I was very disappointed that Ashley Williams was not even a romantic option for the female Shepard. Only Liara, Diana, and Samantha were available to romance. A lot of lesbian gamers wanted to romance Ashley and were let down. I mean come on! Ashley was with Shepard throughout the first game and returned to the third, at least BioWare can do is allow a female Shepard to woo her! It would've been great if female Shepard could also woo Miranda, Tali or Jack (which surprised me because she's been with a girl and a guy, according to her dialogue in ME2).

Another thing that bothered me was the comparison of gay/straight romance scenes with Kaidan. The gay/straight romance scenes with Kaidan were "almost" the same, except there was a little bit more with the straight romance scene. The main difference is that after Kaidan says "I lied. I didn't come here for a quick drink," the female Shepard goes on top of Kaidan and has the option to say "I love you" and Kaidan says "I love you" in return, they kiss some more and then Kaidan carries off female Shepard. This part was NOT the same for the gay romance scene and SHOULD HAVE been! In the gay romance scene, after Kaidan says "I lied. I didn't come here for a quick drink," the scene soon transitions into the bed scene (which I thought was hot, of course).

I also noticed that Kaidan and male Shepard lacked up-close views of lip-locking when they were kissing. The Liara and Ashley scenes displayed very good views of kissing, why didn't the scene with male Shepard and Kaidan? It wasn't as good as Liara’s or Ashley‘s.

Oh! If male Shepard romances Cortez, they have a romantic scene, but it's really awful because the scene is rushed through. The lesbian scene with Samantha was also rushed through, but more explicit than the Cortez gay scene, which is no surprise considering that the game was made by mostly straight males and prefer to see some girl-on-girl action.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased with the same-sex romance options, glad to know that BioWare went the extra mile. I feel a little bad for some lesbian/gay gamers, partly because they can't have Ash, Miranda, Tali, Jacob, Thane, Garrus, etc, which is unfair because not everyone likes the Liara, Kaidan, Cortez, Samantha, or Diana. I don't even understand why Samantha or Diana were even introduced as romantic opportunities; it's ridiculous, random and they have no significance in the storyline. Why couldn't BioWare just use the main roster of characters from ME2? However, I understand that it's costly or that there wasn't enough time to expand on the romance options, but if you're going to make a game with such options, then make sure that the romantic content in which each romance scene contains is equal; go all out, BioWare! Practice what you preach. Give us what we want!

I totally agree with how you feel. If the same happened to my sweet Kaidan, then I'd be very disappointed as well. Hell, if they're going to make Kaidan bisexual, then do the same for Ashley! It's kind of unfair.

I absolutely love Samantha. My first reaction to her was "Oops, I think my main femShep will turn bi".
I have yet to try her romance, but for the first time I'm inclined to try s/s romances in a game because I find a character so compelling. Steve is very well written, too, though he doesn't appeal as much to me personally. Anyway, both characters seem real and devoid of cheap stereotypes. Nice job, Bioware.

Google "toothbrush lesbian"...(hint, it's not safe for work)

I am not really sure why Samantha was made pretty cool in every aspect *except* her romance scene, and I'm still baffled as to why the toothbrush scene was at all necessary.  If the writer wanted to make a veiled reference to her sexuality in that scene, there were about a billion more tasteful ways to do it.  I like Samantha, I like her chess scene, but I will never purposely initiate the shower scene.  It's just not at all classy, in my opinion.

But, if guys like it, that's probably what they were going for.

"We" as in a representative for 7 billion people? :o

I like that there is options for everyone and there should be nowadays.

IMHO though there should be bi, gay and straight characters not universal matches (sorry for the wording bi-people).

It just seems silly and unrealistic (to me) and I would much rather prefer a variety of unique characters.

So I kinda like the way bioware handled it though offcourse that still leaves room for improvement in "delivery" and variety of options.

I agree with you. They should have worked on the scenes a little more. The Cortez romance "scene" was nothing. Kaidan was alot better but should have been more. And I do feel sorry for FemShep. She hardly had any options. So here's hoping that the next game will have more options and better scenes for both male and female characters. And I don't understand Diana being an option, but I liked Samantha. Her scene was hardly anything too but better than Cortez.

I just heard Cortez's dialogue last night, and I was quite impressed by it, especially his use of the word "husband."

I wonder if any other video game has ever made such a reference to gay marriage.

I was also amused when Traynor declined my male shep's flirtation and stated that she prefers women.

Kudos and thanks for the refreshing characters, Bioware :wizard:
