For me, Mordin gets a slight edge on Legion because it just showed the way his character had progressed from being firnly pro-genophage to willing to die to correct his mistake. He also was very moving if you took the sabatoge the genophage route. Both scenarios show how much his viewpoint had changed, but I prefer the curing the genophage scenario.

Legion was good as well, but something about Mordins story just appeald a bit more to me.

I thought the scripted deaths I came across were all well done. Legion, Mordin, and Thane. They all brought tears to my eyes as did Grunt's almost death. All my gross sobbing tears in a chalice ready for Bioware to consume.

I agree with that.

If the writers had put as much work into the endings as they put into the deaths of some of the ME2 characters, I would be a happy (and sobbing) gamer.

I'll admit it. I balled like a little girl when nearly everyone died (and when Grunt almost died)... but I think Thane's and Legion's hit me the hardest. Watching Mordin die was sad, but satisfying. He saved the Krogan; made up for his past mistakes. Legion (for me, because I managed to broker peace) died to free his people.

And Thane... Thane got to go out as he'd always wanted; fighting for what's right and protecting others. I was happy for him. And absolutely floored when I realized that his final prayer is/was for Shepard and Kolyat confirmed it. It was just... even with his son right there, his last thought - last concern - is for Shepard. Beautiful. Moving. Humbling. As far as I was concerned, damn near everything I did from that point forward was for Thane.

I was genuinly screaming at the television telling Mordin not to go up in that tower, truly spectacular death scene and fitting end for our singing salarian scientist.

Kai Leng's renegade interupt must have made you gleeful then ;)

I had an oddly satisfying death last night. NPC and not a squad member.

I didn't get to Grissom in time. Mistake on my part, no Jack now. But when I ran into Dr. Archer and informed him of what happened to the Academy was over taken by Reapers, he walked off and shot himself. You don't see him do it, but you hear the shot.

I was in a weird way satisfied. I wanted to kill him in ME2 for what he did to David.

For me things started hitting me hard after Thane. I didn't have Mordin or Tali in the first playthrough, but I know how they die. But I'm saving Tali's people this time around. Tali is like a little sister to my canon femShep.

Thane. As short as I can make it.

*Fighting Cerberus to get to Council. Dad calls*
"Hey dad. Been a while. What's up?
*Ten min conversation. Nothing but happiness. Then he hits with...*
"Alright. Well I gotta get to work. I was waiting to tell you this, but I had to go to the hospital the other day. I'm waiting for test results."
"Test results?"
"Cancer..."
*Silence*
"Alright Dad. I'll call you later."

*Then suddenly Thane duels Kai Leng. Badass till he gets stabbed.*
"...What?"

*Rushes to hospital after Cerberus invasion.*
Doc: Kepral's in it's final stages. The wound only rushes it. Kolyat is saying his goodbyes. You should too.
"...What?"

*Sits in silence watching scene.*
"...Why?"
*Thane passes*
*Turns off game, shuts down computer, and cries forever untill boyfriend gets home lost in all kinds of confusion as to why I can't talk or how much another keyboard is going to cost since it's flooded with tears.*

Thane's story, reconnecting with his son and everything, has touched me in such a way unimaginable. Thank you for helping me realize life is too short to not stay in touch with loved ones. I NEVER would have guessed any of this would have happened within a day.

Hell yes! ;)

I've only taken two Renegade interrupts in my entire Mass Effect career except when I was forcing myself to do a (mostly) Renegade playthrough just for completeness' sake. Udina got it and so did Kai Leng.

And they always will.

It's a good thing Thane was sick, or Kai Leng would have died half way through the game.

Yea, I know.  Thane's death wasn't a surprise or a shock to me.  The manner of how it happened was the surprise.

Kai Leng.  There was a good death.

My favourite one. It's happened in both playthroughs because I can't make myself side with the Quarians given what they're trying to do when the decision is made, but it always hurts to watch.

Mordin's, because it was the completion of his life's work and the most satisfying way I can think of to resolve his story.

Legion is a close second. Again, it flowed naturally and showed how much he'd developed. I talked the Quarians down, and in that scenario Legion's death was the culmination of everything he'd been working for. I later watched the version where the Quarians win, and wow. So proud of Legion. He wouldn't even let Shepard-Commander get in the way of the Geth's right to make their own path. It was exactly how that should have played out.

All of the scripted, must-happen-always deaths are phenomenal (Mordin, Thane, Legion). Tali's choice death is pretty awesome too.

Yeah I agree I like Thane, Mordin, and Legion... all of them were well done.

Legion I think for my Shepard is most poignant.

Mordin for sure. I LOVE Mordin, he is now officially my favorite character now that I've seen the entire trilogy. Samara had the edge going into ME3, but after Cure The Genophage, Mordin takes top honors. I like Samara's ME3 mission, but it lacks the scale and weight of Mordin's sacrifice. Samara's concerned with a small subset of the asari population, Mordin is concerned with two entire races, and his sendoff was better than any other in the game. Even Anderson got short shrift in that regard, his death lacked emphasis.

Thane's death was great too, I loved his line about Kai Leng, that he should be ashamed that he was thwarted by a terminally ill drell. The prayer with Kolyat was very tear-inducing, and I'm a total atheist.

I haven't finished, so I've only come across two. Mordin and Thane. Thane was the worst. I'm still tearing up over it, and I did it last night. Woke up with a massive headache after crying myself to sleep. Yup. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I have to say, though I HATE what they did to his romance, it was the most moving, probably because I was playing my MainShep, who romanced him in ME2.

I'm very glad I let myself become emotionally attached to these characters.
