I don't care that the ending wasn't fairy-tale happy, BUT

Yes, another ending rage thread. I haven't been able to play ANY game since I finished ME3 2 days ago

I don't care that the ending was tragic - if anything, I LIKE tragic endings when well-written and appropriate. For example, Mordin's final scene/death was perfect. I don't care that it was tragic, I wouldn't change a single thing about it. Same goes for Legion - tragic tone used perfectly that just left my jaw open

But this is what bothered me about the ending...

When I was presented with the 3 choices, I sat there for 10-15minutes in awe. What do I sacrifice for all the people (and FRIENDS) of the galaxy that I have been fighting for?

Even after reluctantly picking one, I turned around twice, so conflicted by choosing Shepard's final sacrifice and the pending outcome.

And then...
It didn't really matter. Not "it didn't really matter, Shepard dies anyway" kind of sense..
It didn't matter because I didn't get to see results of that final epic choice

the cutscenese were the definition of copy/paste, and the aftermath with the Normandy crash didn't have ANY meaningfuly closure on what happened from that choice.

- If I destroyed Synthetics, show me life in the galaxy afterwards. Show me if Shepard made it. Show me how my squadmates and I live on afterwards (especially with love interest)
- If I sacrificed myself to control Reapers, show me how life in the galaxy has been influenced by that. Show me how having the Reapers has affected my mourning squadmates
- If I chose Synthesis, show me who was lost and what new DNA was created. If this hybrid is the pinnacle of evolution, show me civilization now at it's prime that I just created, by choice.

This is Mass Effect. This is a Bioware RPG.
We all love it not because of choice, but because of the story we craft FROM those choices. I'm not angry that my Shepard had to make a death-choice - I'm angry because that choice had nearly no impact on the ending of my story - the story that I had been crafting with my choices up to that point. It destroyed the Mass Effect triligoy, to present THE final story choice, and not see an outcome.

- I cured the Genophage; how does destroying synthetics finally impact their future?
- I saved the Geth and allowed co-existence and co-operation with the Quarians; if I destroyed Synthetics, what have I done to the Quarians now?
- How have I affected Joker if I killed EDI?
- How will Thessia, the Asari homeworld, recover? Will it be rebuilt? Will the Asari's still stand as the powerful race they were
- The whole galaxy fought for their own survival and future - I sacrificed my Shepard to save their future - yet I don't get to see any of it

I think a properly tragic ending would have made this one of the best triloges of our time - the forums could be unified in mourning of Shepard's sacrifice - instead we're left mourning that our sacrifice was for a 10second outcome of watching 3 crew members simply climb out of the Normandy.
