Did my first playthrough with imported soldier Shep from ME2, my go to weapon is M-8 Avenger with accuracy and high-capacity clip mods. But looking at the praise the Particle Beam gets, I've just bought the DLC and will try it tonight.

He was pretty handy on Tuchanka with the Phaeston I think, just wasn't sure of he actually fires it full auto. Noticed squadmates still get different firing rates to normal, as seen James fire single Argus shots onthe Rachni mission.HolyAvenger wrote...
Garrus with a Revenant is brutally effective, I've found (yes, on Insanity).

AR :Pheaston is very versatile weapon as well as Mattock if You like semi-auto.
SMG: Locust will suit You well due to its high accuracy, with ultra-light aug, it is something You can carry on character class.
Shotgun: Suprisingly there are many accurate shotguns this time around, my preferred are Graal, Geth and N7. You have to be accurate though.
All pistols are kind of all range weapons in ME world so here You have a lot of choice.

The Mattock is probably the best if you're on PC.

particle rifle, especially after it super charges itself

For my adept, that's all I carry. Combine it with Stasis and you've got a great way to take down even some of the toughest enemies. The 152% cooldown bonus is good enough for the way I play.zeypher wrote...

I recommend the larger ammo clip mod for it as well. It increases the amount of time you can use charged up beam before you run out of ammo.

Vanguard Insanity Run I just stuck with the Geth Plasma Shotgun and a Paladin. Graal is pretty decent as well just don't like the tighter spread when I'm in the thick of things. GPS is lighter and does more damage I think while having more shots per reload. Paladin? Carnifex is a beast of a pistol if you use it right, Paladin is just a more powerful carnifex imo

Insanity Adept. For all out power spam I wear Inferno armor and a Vindicator with the stability mod/extended barrel and a tempest with light weight/extended barrel.
That's not my preferred setup though. I like to run full hahne-kedar/kuwashii visor/warp ammo bonus with the N7 valkryie(scope/barrel) and N7 eagle(extended mag/barrel). I can still maintain around 160% recharge speed with that setup, but my guns are very strong. The eagle is basically an SMG with the extended mag, despite the fact that it takes up a pistol slot. Sometimes I'll swap out both guns and just use a Revenant. Going rambo while flinging people around with pull/throw is always fun.
Spamming powers with 200% recharge speed is more effective, but balancing powers/guns is more fun for me.

As a vanguard, I am absolutely, positively in love with the disciple. A shotgun that does very respectable damage, yet is light enough to allow me to carry a lightweight-modded SMG and keep 200% cooldown? Yes please thank you.

Unfortunately, balancing isn't the right word to use here. It's more like how hard you want to gimp yourself in order to play ME3 like the shooter-(rpg'ish)power hybrid it's supposed to be.
ME3 is about spamming powers. Weapons, so it seems, were added later and have nor serve any real purpose (except for the Infiltrator) in gameplay.

Okay, I have to say fully upgraded Falcon AR with e-mag and piercing mod, combined with AP/cryo/disruptor ammo, depending on situation.
Constant asplosion.

Black Widow rapes everything. Other than that, I have not been impressed with any weapon at all.

Scoped Saber feels nice and seems to hit a bit harder (and obviously faster) than the Raptor to me, but you don't get it until basically the end of the game, you sacrifice some range and the ability to see through smoke, and for my infiltrator you loose time dilation. It also weighs enough that it gimped power recharge rate beyond the point that I was comfortable w/ if I tried to carry it and a sniper rifle.
If weapons carry over to NG+, I'll probably check it out a good bit more as I plan to change this main Shepard over to another class (thinking maybe Sentinel).
It does seem like powers own guns just about any day of the week for just about any class from a power gaming perspective, but sometimes you just wanna blow some stuff away rather than lighting them up w/ sparkly magic type stuff...

As an engineer, I carried only the Vindicator AR for highest damage to weight ratio, maximizing my cool down. Usually I just used overload and my drone (sometimes my turret when I need extra crowd control). Carnage is also pretty good. So, yeah, I guess I'm a powers sort of person

Particle Rifle, Particle Rifle, and oh yeah, Particle Rifle.
Carrying just that weapon, plus upgrades to it and Shepard that manage the weight issues, means Shepard can be dishing out pain constantly between powers and the beam. Plus, say bye-bye to Harvesters with the charge blast! (You almost can't miss. *g*)
