THERE ARE END GAME SPOILERS WATCH OUT!!!
I understood not all of the endings would be good. I actually expected most of them to be bad. This game did such a good job getting me choked up over the various deaths throughout the game that I wasn't expecting roses and unicorns.
Actually, I was with the game, edge of my seat and on the verge of tears right up until you get pulled up to talk to the kid. Then they kind of lost me. I was dissapointed and confused.
Here are my questions:
1) The Catalyst-Kid is in charge of the Reapers but they never establish why or how he was put in that position.
2) He claims the reason is because organics will create synthetics which will kill organics, but then why not just order the Reapers to destroy technology ever 50000 years instead of wiping out life?
3) The Catalyst-Kid has somehow always resided on the Citadel. So why didn't the sentient synthetic that was in control of the Reapers AND the Citadel just turn on the Mass Relay in the first game? Why would that have been up to the Keepers at all?
4) The Catalyst realizes that his cycle is no longer needed, but instead of .. . you know... calling it off because he can.... he's a dick about it and makes Shepard do it.
5) The Catalyst explains that the Reapers are there to preserve Organic life, but then why use the shock troops at all? Why wouldn't they invest in the Collector swarms and just freeze everyone, beam them somewhere, process them and be done?
Now that I'm done ranting I think there are a few pretty obvious things everyone wants in an ending for Mass Effect.
1) Multiple Endings --- They can include bleak decisions and tough choices, but they shouldn't all be completely identical. If there were 16 endings and only one included Shepard getting to live with his friends and love interest on Earth AND it was reallly tough to get.... I'd be happy. As long as there were multiple options. Maybe a few include sacrificing the love interest or friends.... one destroying Earth.... A few you only have options for if you meet prior requirements from the 1st and 2nd game.... I don't know just some darn options with variables.
2) Epilogue- I don't know about anyone else but I was pretty peeved when I didn't get to find out what the heck happened because of the Genophage, or letting the Rachni Queen live a second time, or helping the Geth and Quarians work out their differences. A little epilogue that just talks about the main characters and main decisions would be really nice. As is our decisions made little to no difference since it all ends the same way.
3) A Little More Happiness- I don't mean Shepard has to live but for me.... I just feel like if anyone deserves a break it's her. It would have been awesome to have my Colonist Shepard get info from Hackett at the last minute that somehow Mindoir colonist had completely evaded the Reapers. Or maybe the Spacer Shepard to get a last minute call from her mother.
4) A Little More Sadness--- This is for if Shepard dies... come on! My Love interest didn't even care? I would have liked a little more sadness over the fate of the protagonist, not just my sadness.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. Normally I wouldn't bog down the forum with repetitive threads but I really wanted you guys to know that I loved this game so so much... right up until the last 10 minutes.
The Ending Could Have Been Good if it Wasn't So Nonsensical

It's kind of like they ended the amazing series with: "Yup, so he destroyed/merged/controlled them. Aaand... that's the end! *trollface*" ... leaving fans with the task of figuring out WHAT DOES IT MEAN.

I would have even been happier if Sheperd had talked Starchild into calling off the attack and not blown them up.
