Anyone think killing Harbringer should have been the last Boss fight?

Harbinger as a boss fight would have been atrocious. Remember back in the good ol' days, when Reapers were neigh unstoppable and inscrutable dread terrors from beyond known space intent on killing all advanced organic life for reasons that were only their own? Kinda hard to take them seriously as dread terrors after the soylent T-800. Harder still to take them seriously as villains following disposing of one via kaiju fight and another via the usage of a glorified laser pen. Best to let them hold onto the last shreds of their dignity rather than have Shepard arm-wrestle Harbinger in a hijacked Atlas to determine the fate of the galaxy..

well - it should have been the final boss...

BUT:

we should not have had to attack it on foot from the outside (it would have been illogical) but we should rather have the fleet blow a whole into him...or even better, a fleet should have engaged him in battle, while we - equipped with a specialized breaching-/boarding-pod (that has been upgraded speacially for this mission) should have been launched (maybe by Mass Effect Cannon?) at it, in order to penetrate the stressed mass effect fields (with the fleet then only fighting as a distraction - no longer trying to blow him up) and board the reaper in order to blow his brains up (or "hack" them...or maybe fry them with a massive overload (could have a special one shot weapon just for that) ;)

greetings LAX

for me the end boss is harbenger.(he just beats me) and leaves you for dead im okey with that part cuz yeah the ''sovereign'' class reapers are beasts and it would be stupid to be able to have shep beat one. i mean come on the only reapers getting killed are the ''small'ones and even that is very hard mother tresher, entire quarian fleet, and ''black hole rockets'' to the face.

Honestly, it felt like he was. That whole end sequence felt like an indoctrination attempt.

Exactly. I think he was the God Child/Casper. Which is why I will always pick Destroy. And since the whole thing is so vague, it'll work with my canon

I mean from a gameplay perspective not a storyline perspective. I wanted to have the mechanics like the Reaper Rannoch fight. I wanted to see him blow up and say, "I did that woot" hehe

Not going to lie people. Having a punch-out with Harby would probably be awesome.
Especialy if someone ASSUMED DIRECT CONTROL of something.

How the f*** im supposed to win is another problem for another time.

Firstly Mr. Shields should have under went ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL. But because Shep is awesome he blasts a few shots into Mr. Shields before the full control sequence is completed. Shep then BEAM ME UP, Scotties! to the Crucible.

When you reach the end room with high enough REP/WA/EMS Starchild should have been able to be identified as another Harbinger emodiment. At that point you could choose to acquiesce to Saren/Synthesis, take TIM/Control or Anderson/Destroy.

Choosing destroy at this point shows Paragons walking away from Harbychild as he pleads for Synthesis and Renegades walking away giving Harbychlid the finger as he pleads for Synthesis. Without high REP/WA/EMS(3400+) you would only get Saren/Synthesis and TIM/Control and never know Starchild was Harby.

Endings happens as they do, except for:

All ending SR-2 crash landings only show Joker, Traynor and Adams... no squadmates!

High REP/WA/EMS Destroy endings get Shepard breathing and being tended to by EDI and their LI (and or most used squadmate). Having EDI there cements that what was said about DESTROY by Harbychild was BULL.

People still get to argue about whether or not FTL engines can be tweaked to get people home (WARP SPEED, Mr. SULU!) or if the Relays went FULL NOVA or just Firecracker BOOM. Or just what Synthesis means for the Universe. Or what happens after Control. ETC. Or if Shepard retires after surviving Destroy ETC! Or which ending is better! Yay! Speculation for the future, but these MINOR adjustments create total closure on Shepard vs Harby/Reapers and remove the "WTF? [Fill in squadmate here] is on the Normandy?!" moments. All of that also KEEPS Bioware's endings. Yay! ARTIST STUFF!

Except that those two reapers were only destroyers. Sovereign class reapers, Harbinger's kind, are waaaaaay bigger.

Even if it's not an actual fight. I want a final confrontation so I can tell him to go to hell.

Do you know how much better the control ending would have instantly been if Shepard had popped off with that as he grabbed the coils?

And how would we do that? Like that boring fight on Rannoch with a laser pointer?

Sapce combat mission while piloting the Normandy. It'd be pretty out of nowhere compared to the rest of the game, but really the only way to actually do it.

That was one thing I was disappointed with. I wanted to talk with harbinger again. We only saw him very briefly at the end.

This... once scene with tiny Shepard dancing *right in front* of big huge reaper who can't hit him was enough for me, thanks.

Harbinger IS the last boss. You talk to him on the Citadel. It's just that he appears as a young boy and convinces Shepard to kill himself.

nah, the reapers should win. they are too awesome to be defeated by half brained humans.

OP: Definitely not. Shepard may be a badass cyborg, but there's no way he/she could beat old Harby without yet another trick (target painting, setting up missilies, luring a thresher maw). It had been done enough by the end of the game, and something new was required.

I was hoping that Joker would become a War Assett and repurpose the Crucible to what he had suggested:

A gigantic cannon that shoots Thresher Maws.

Epic Ending [/f]

Miss the calls of - Assuming Direct Control!

Yeah I was expecting a boss! The hardest part of the game for me was running about with the laser on the hill, lost count of how many times I died! There was then KL but I thought he was easy to kill - I only died once, and I blame my dodgy controller and its determination to go left :P

I thought the priority:earth definitely missed an epic boss fight like in ME1/2, the banshees where hard but didn't induce boss level adrenalin!

The fact that in ME2, there was a lot of buildup between Shep and Harbinger made me believe that he'd have a big role in ME3. But for some reason he doesn't, save for almost killing you at the run to the conduit. You don't even get to speak to him again (BIG disappointment, I wanted to hear some classic "assuming control" lines). I have no idea why he wasn't a boss fight, let alone the final boss. Even his Codex entry implies that he is the big cheese of the entire Reaper fleet!
