Im not sure if this topic belongs on this forum page but since my question directly concerns the story I will ask here.

Is it true that the galaxy at war and or a multiplayer option there in affects how the final confrontation with the reapers plays out?

No, every ending is the same. Just different colored space magic.

No, you don't have to do them if you do every single side mission and make all the correct choices in the game. If not, then yes you will need them.

I had a galactic readiness rating of nearly 7000.

The galaxy is destroyed regardless of what I do.

So going through the main story in rpg mode on its own will produce the same ending as someone who played the multiplayer prior to playing the solo campaign?

If you do no sidequests, do the multiplayer to make up for it. If not, it really doesn't matter because even the full max'd out ending is just a dumb, unimportant teaser anyway. I'd recommend not finishing the game and never playing the ending or watching it online. That's the best course of action right now. I already saw the ending, there's no more hope for me liking Mass Effect content.

the galaxy at war just makes it easier to get the most options available to you by reducing the amount of secondary missions you need to do to achieve the best ending. (if there is such a thing)

do it right and you get a little extra scene where shep is laying in a pile of rubble and starts breathing. Thats where the theory that the last 10 min or so is all in sheps mind as he lays there knocked out.

Good to know I can get maximum resources if I sidequest properly. Im playing this on xbox and forking over more money after paying for the collectors edition just to unlock something (that is hopefully not game essential) would be just cruel on biowares part.

can you please tell me if you are trolling, or not. I don't know if I can handle redoing that ended to try and get it "right"

I have over 6k war assets, but didn't see that scene.

Do yourself a favor: After Shep says, "Best seats in the house." turn off your console, walk away and never go back, and get on with your life.

you have to destroy all synthetic life, its the only option that your Shep can possibly survive.  Shep is laying in a pile of concrete and re-bar, something typically not found on the Citadel.

what about this decay of the readiness over real time. Does that basically mean I have a finite amount of time to complete all my sidequests before the number drops back to 50% or worse?

Eh, I payed my bits and Im going to finish this game (more then once) because I like mass effect. And honestly even if the ending leaves much to be desired Im pretty sure some really epic stuff happens in the interum. Besides at this point I kinda gotta I mean I bought the collectors edition.
