I am kind of confused why people hated the ending so much? Life isn't always a sweet rose or a box of chocolates. Mass Effect has all was dealt with the 'harsh' nature of reality. The fact that a sacrifice was necessary doesn't seem odd to me.

Also, this opens up the series for continuation, with throw back references to the 'ancient days' (this case referring to the time period of the events of ME1-3) when the way the species of the universe forever changed!

Think about the reports you get in regards to how you united the galaxy (assuming you weren't a complete jerk). You would read messages and reports of species helping each other out, imagine systems without the ME Relays, with mixes of different alien races being left on them. How do the develop together now? Do the Krogan play nice on the planets that they are stranded on? Do the species create camps and war against each other or unify? There is a lot of room, in my humble opinion.

In other word, you are happy to have this series trashed because you will pay to get something in the future that will have absolutly nothing to do with the present series but some random quote from the past?

Yeah you are right. I mean, it is impossible to have an "ending" that doesn't defy the logic of the past 2 games, doesn't put random things going on (hello normandy) and that is actually influenced by our choice throught the game. Not when a company decide to milk a series to the maximum and start pumping them games!

Right?

Also, I'm not playing games to have another life. Are you? But since you start with that line of argument... life might not be perfect, but you can work (and should) to change it, improve it and your action will influence it... One way or the other...
Hey, that sounds familiar with what Bioware was saying about one of their game... Wonder which one now since the last game wasn't influence in any way. I could blaze throught the entire game and still be stuck with the copy/paste Deus Ex 1 ending.

Anyway, in regards to the OP's original overall message, it would me interesting to see a new ME story years down the line. How much of what happened in ME 1-3 is still mentioned or anything aside from Shepard. Rebuilding of Mass Relay-like technology for commerce and travel purposes. What races survived the last round with the Reapers, etc, etc...

Anyone who loves the first two games will hate the ME3 ending. We all care about these characters so much and for them no to get the happy ending that we wanted for them is depressing. We all have put so many hours into these games that you can't really accept the ending Bioware gives us. I am seriously going to need therapy now. I can't even turn on my xbox because I am so depressed by this. My Shepard died in the end, I didn't get the 4 second cut-scene of him breathing.

The grim finality might (MIGHT!) make sense considering the event sof ME3, but really the reason the endings left me feeling cold was the lack of resolution, exactly as many here have said.

Now, personally I'm thinking of other games, say, the Dragon Knight Saga, where the game ended on a pretty serious bummer, and it turned out it was a setup for the expansion pack. Yes, it is probably a slim hope, but at this point Bioware has said absolutely nothing, other than that they DO have plans for the game's future. The series as well, of course, but really that was just a given. So, I'll just hope they have some kind of plan.

All that having been said, the Catalyst Child was an awful choice. Seriously.

This series will go down in history as the video game equivilant of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. Both had an amazing adventure that was almost completely crushed by an out of the blue ending.

oh well, there are other worlds than these....

I just finished the ending. I chose the Destroyer one.

After seeing everyone complain I was thinking "no way is it that bad, come on people". But I have to say that I am severely disappointed. That was pure crap. What the hell BioWare? It completely undid everything that had been established and was completely unnecessary. I understand if the writers wanted to give it an ending that wasn't perfect, but did they ever stop and think:

a) players have invested 5 years of their lives into this, maybe we should make it worth it in the the end.
B) the Reaper destroyed on Rannoch said it perfectly; that organic create chaos and the Reapers fix it. That's a completely legitimate answer to why the Reapers do what they do. We don't need this crap of the ghost kid and Reapers are all that bad bull****. I don't think I can fully comprehend what that kid even was. Why BioWare? Why was that a good idea? Mac Walters, what the ****?!

I'd be completely happy with a sad ending being Shepard failed and the Reapers will destroy us all because that's what was at stake. I expected that to happen if I failed. Not this garbage. I've also been with these characters for 5 years, so if I want a happy ending I think I damn well deserve one.

The end was so unnecessary and stupid. The rest of the game is simply amazing until the very end. It shouldn't but unfortunately the last 15 minutes ruins the entire series. It's gonna be hard finishing my other 6 playthroughs. I very much dislike Mac Walters and the writing team right now. And we deserve an explanation.

I like how every person who tries to defending th endings just regurgitates the same argument every single time. Herp derp you can't handle sad endings, durr hurr it's like real life.
