Honestly, I don't think new LIs were necessary. They should have kept Jacob and Thane as romance options for femshep. With Kaidan, Garrus, Thane, and Jacob, there are a good amount of options as they are each very different in personality and style. All female players would be attracted to at least one of them and there wouldn't have been a problem. Although, a smaller character like Traynor that was male for a femshep to romance would be a decent idea just for an extra, new option.

In fact, they should have done a better job with all of the ME2 romances. While the ME2 romances for males weren't casted off like Thane and Jacob, they were still sidelined quite a bit.

I agree completely. I don't really want any new options. I'd be satisfied if I could just continue with the one I chose (Thane) and actually have it mean something.

I think it's messed up that two of FemShep's existing relationships from the past game were discarded but MaleShep gets to keep all of his options.

Most of all, I wish all the established romances had been treated fairly and received decent conclusions.

Umm...you have Miranda, Jack, and Liara at least for a straight male Shep, plus Kelly.
Straight femshep has like...Jacob. Everything else is in the freaky aliens category.

Not counting Kaidan since he's officially borderline gay now.

That's a little unbalanced. Hopefully there will be a better balance in future Bioware games, though it seem like they forgot how to make a decent game.

To be fair - if your counting Liara and Kelly towards ManShep then you have to count Kaidan towards FemShep. Just sayin'.

But I do agree - it should have been balanced. I thought it was going to be:

- Ashley - Kaidan
- Liara - James
- Miranda - Jacob
- Tali - Garrus
- Jack - Thane
- Cortez - Traynor

With Kelly and Diana serving as flings to satisfy gamers urge to bang everything that moves. Like Shi'ara.

Well I admit I'm absolutely baffled by the lack of choices FemShep has, espicially after they decided to market her for ME, as well as how previous Bioware games (notably ME1, ME2, DAO and DA2) were equal for both genders.

As it is, only the underlined options are exclusive for each respective gender:
Ashley
Kaidan
Liara
Tali-Garrus
Miranda-Jacob
Jack-Thane

Kelly
Diana (She doesn't count towards the Paramour achievment though)
Cortez-Samantha
Out of these, both Thane and Jacob were cut for FemShep and none were cut for ManShep. That's just unfair.

To top it off, if you have the scenario of killing Kaidan and not romancing Garrus, then that's it, FemShep is "Forever Alone".Posted Image
In my opinion this is how they could have balanced it:
Ashley-Javik
Liara-Kaidan (I know Liara isn't "female" in that sense but meh)
Tali-Garrus
Miranda-Jacob
Jack-Thane
Kelly-Vega
Cortez-Samantha

In ME1 it was sort of balanced. You had Ash for maleshep, Kaidan for femshep...or Liara for either. Liara was the only interesting character of the three though.  i guess because either Ash or Kaidan were scripted to die, they didn't feel like making those two very interesting. In ME2 maleshep got more options with Miranda plus Jack plus fun time with Kelly, and femshep got another bland guy in Jacob. It's like Bioware expected femshep to be a lesbian, bisexual, or nothing at all...because the choices you have in guys are boring characters.

And I won't go into getting freaky with non-species LI's. I can't picture my femshep attempting anything with turians or a reptile species.

I don't think there is an awful lot they could do to make Kaidan and Jacob 'interesting'.
Jacob was a piggy in the middle character, he was in a terrorist organisation but he believed in the good fight.
Kaidan was a biotic who killed his tutor and it was stated that biotics were discriminated against.

Both would have been interesting if the game did not have alien assassins and alien vigilanties - I don't think the humans could have been anymore exciting because in comparison to the other options they are just plain old humans.

What would you have wanted from a male human? In terms of background to make him more interesting?
A terrorist and a biotic who should have been done for man slaughter is pretty good.

I didn't actually persue it, but I know it's possible to flirt with Joker early on in ME3. But, as I didn't persue the option, I have no idea how it'd turn out.

Yeah these are the new romance options:

Straight male: 3 (Liara, Ashley, Diana Allers)
Lesbian options: 3 (Samantha, Liara, Allers)
Gay options: 2 (Cortez, Kaidan)
Straight female: 1 (Kaidan)

Not to mention Thane dying and Jacob cheating on Shepard. Garrus and Kaidan are really our only options.

except Liara isnt technically male or female according to her own descriptions in ME1 so is a perfectly valid options for any character

Except she's obviously female. If Bioware suddenly decided Jacob was female now...even though he still sounds and looks like a male, I'm sure the hetro guys would suddenly find him attractive right? Just another valid option for someone who only likes females right? What is it with this mindset? The one that thinks straight women should have no issue with asari options? I really don't get it but I see this comment  a lot!

Of course Liara is a valid option for a romance, haven't done it yet in ME3 but that is not the point. It is great that we can have romances with Liara and Traynor, but really, there should be a few guys as well. And since they removed two ME2 male LI:s from having continuation in ME3  and no one was removed for BroShep, and they added a new small female one for both Shepards. It is starting to get really strange. I just have a feeling that David Allers would perhaps have kept to only doing reporting stuff and Jane Vega would have done the horizontal tango with both BroShep and FemShep. Protect the males! I'm going she-krogan soon.

edit: trying for more clarity, will look again after taking coffe   =)

I know, right? The whole thing was just creepy and I stopped talking to Vega entirely after that. I just didn't want to deal with it, and was afraid to accidentally get involved in some romance with him. Really, realy creepy stuff.

No, what she says is her species doesn't differentiate male and female, and if it's not obvious why, then you aren't paying attention to what women look like. They have no males. It's just too hard for humans to understand because what's in the pants is really, REALLY important to us for some reason and we can't wrap our minds around a society where men aren't needed. BioWare did a brave thing with the Asari.

Liara is an available character for either gender, but I wouldn't call her a 'valid' one for a heterosexual femshep.

That....wasn't a flirt?

Context: Vega was saying how everything looked too soft. Saying the bed is hard isn't exactly the best way to get him into it, y'know.

Even with FemShep, Vega thinks its a flirt but FemShep crosses her arms and does this "really, Vega?". It seems both you and Vega took the line wrong...

Disagreeing. Wasn't a flirt when FemShep or ManShep says it. He/She was saying the bed isn't as comfortable as it looks in a very "matter of fact" sort of way.

Not with the inflection Jennifer Hale applied to the statement. I've
heard her talk to Jacob. It was said in her 'flirt with male LI' voice.

I care to disagree with that. Not nearly as breathy as Jacob's "I'm more interested in just talking for a bit. Then the way she crosses her arms after he implies flirting makes it seem like shes saying "oh grow up."

I think that Bioware just made too many love interests within ME1 and ME2. In ME3 they already had to give closure to nine different romances and then implemented the Steve and Sam. Reading articles and interviews it seemed like time was an issue while developing ME3 and focusing more resources on an optional feature that already had so many outcomes to work on would probably have been overreaching.

I'm sad that some of my FemSheps will be forever alone unless they decide to bat for the other team but I also feel that BroShep really only got three satisfying heterosexual relationship conclusions (Liara, Ashley, Tali). FemShep had two (Garrus and Kaidan) but I think that Liara's homosexual relationship (and I firmly believe that it is a homosexual relationship) was the best gay relationship in gaming history.

Quality of quantity, I guess.
