Anyone tried an Engineer Focused on the 3 "summons"?
I was thinking of running thing on the Xbox, maybe just mapping the 3 skills and just summon stuff while in cover.

Yes since Defense Drone is a drone. Don't know if it affects turrets

If my memory serves, Drone Mastery names the Combat Drone and Turret, doesn't say just Drone.

My first playthrough was on an engineer. I loved the performance of flame turret and chain spark combat drone. The defensive drone, however, even with the range bonus, didn't seem to do much of anything.

It only comes to your defense when enemies get close, but getting close is kinda against the whole playstyle of sending out pets and supporting them with overload/incinerate/cryblast/etc from a distance. I found Defence Matrix with the power damage buff and resistance buffs much more useful. (With power recharge gear, I had zero issues with cooldown even packing a Paladin V and Disciple V, disciple just in case and simply because I had more than enough cooldown)

How about using Inferno Armor? 30% CD Reduction and 30% Damage Boost to Powrrs.

By the way, do Damage Boost buffs affect drones/turrets?

Actually Defense drone CAN (with the proper upgrades) gets an effective attack range of 10m, which is quite a bit for any power.  Plus, it works wonders against Geth Hunters.  It targets them through their cloak and the shock un-cloaks them as well.

Wouldn't Decoy be a better third pet?

I personally despise decoy, so that's a whole different can of worms.

As for incin ammo, that works too. I get ammo from a squad-mate, however, so getting the toggled DR+Power damage bonus from defence matrix worked better for me.

I only tried defensive drone for 1 mission, but I did take his range upgrades that got him up to 10 meters. I still didn't really notice him attacking much until it was right on top of me. In the single player, there were only a few missions where that was even a concern. Most missions allowed me to choose to range combat took place in, and when it was my choice, I chose to stay back occasionally tossing out rounds with a scoped paladin, but otherwise spamming overload and keeping combat drone + flamer turret positioned properly.
