Benefit to promoting?

I know it increases your readiness.. but with my readiness almost always above 96% after a bunch of matchs I feel no need to promote anyone just to get to 100% so it can deteriorate again tomorrow.

So is there any benefit to promoting besides getting a chance to rebuild the skills (which I can get using the card)?

Yes please, explain this to me as well. I am already at 100 % but I promoted someone, just to see what it did, but nothing happened except I got to restart the character again.

From what I know, you get the chance to respec your guy, beyond that not sure.

Each promoted operative becomes an asset in the galactic war within the game. After promotion if you check fleet assets console at the Normandy you will see a new entry under the "Alliance": N7 Operative. Each successive promotion will raise the number associated with it.

Hypothetically, you can make a fleet strength of titanic proportions doing this, without needing any forces acquired in the campaign. Though it'll likely take years :)
Though considering this, I wonder if perhaps there's a special ending for someone who creates a fleet so massive it can take out Reapers without meddling with <spoiler> at all. An amusing thought.

Oh and regarding waning readiness: technically you only need it high just before the final battle. The game will also remind you in no uncertain terms when the final stretch starts, so you can't miss it.
You can let it drop, get to the end, raise it as high as you like, and finish the game.

If your Readiness decays after few weeks or months, you can use those characters to quickly get it back in case you want to replay the game.

...Not sure why, unless they fix the endings...

A couple of things,

1) You get War Assets in the SP, 75 or so.

2) You get to respec the class.

3) +10 to your N7 Rank.

It resets your character and gives you +10 N7. You also get to spend the next few hours getting kicked out of bronze matches constantly because kids think that Bronze is hard for some reason.

Not everyone is good at everything. Bronze can be difficult to some, I'm ok with that.

Bronze is not hard.. I'd be able to solo it with my human engineer if it weren't for the damn Phantom cheese. :)

So the characters don't actually appear in single player or anything.. it's just a number it uses to calculate the finale result, BLAH.

What a waste of a system.. if they wanted to copy prestige mode they should have kept the benefits in multiplayer.

I will say that bronze can be hard when you have a team that doesn't work together at all and just runs around looking for kills. Nothing worse then bleeding out in round 3 while your team mate stands 4 feet from you sniping.

The count as war assets. I have like 170 total of N7 ops in my warfare screen.

The Galaxy at War is different from your War Assets. War assets are accumulated to give a better ending. The Galaxy at War is a multiplier for those assets. If you have 4000 pts worth of war assets, but you only have a 75% war readiness, then you will only have 3000 pts go toward the end.

I'm not a 100% but I've  promoted all my classes atleast half a dozen times if not more, and I've noticed that some of the powers seem to have been upgraded. for instance i can get a 50% damage reduction with tech armour, but when i first started playing i think i only got a 40% damage reduction and with my soldier class i seem to be able to carry an extra grenade.

Makes it easier to measure and compare e-peen, for those that way inclined.

See BIOWARE Eric Fagnan's Balance Changes thread for the answer to that

I think promoting should give a free credit for a pack of your choice from the store.

 Pride and satisfaction.

Not everything in a game needs to be rewarded.  Sometimes, we do things in games because we're just simply supposed to and cause we want to.  Sometimes, that should simply be enough.

The main reason I promote is for the challenge. The game gets boring having all really powerful level 20 characters. Even Gold loses its difficulty, but playing a few matches with level 1 characters that don't have powers any more is fun.

I don`t think people should ever feel pride with N7 level because it does not represent how good people are but rather how much more extra time they had to spend on MP. And without reward, there can be hardly satifaction for most of the players.

Not everything in a game needs to be rewarded, but without proper reward I don`t feel like we are supposed to promote them. And of course, I don`t want to promote them without proper reward.

Only reason I promote is... really because the random store system forces me to with so many character cards being given away.

If BW wants us to promote, they should give us some kind of credit related rewards.
If BW wants us to stop farming, they should give us some kind of credit related rewards for playing total random.

...but no.. current system is just too perfect to make people spend more cash.

So don't promote. It's an individual choice and I couldn't care less what you do.

But you're quite dead wrong in your logical deduction of one's right to have pride in N7.  First of all, I never said it had anything to do with skill.  But what you don't realize, is that it also doesn't have anything to do with you.  Pride and satisfaction within my context are implicitly individual emotions.  It means you can only choose to not have pride in your N7 for whatever reasons you want.  But whether or not someone else does has nothing to do wiith you whatsoever.  There are several reasons someone could feel pride in their N7 promotions and each one is individual to them.  No one has a right to judge them for it, as it is their pride alone.  It's personal pride.   Now granted, if someone chooses to turn it into some form of public pride through bragging, then of course they open themselves up to criticism.  But public pride had nothing to do with my original post.  It was about how they feel within themselves about it.  And under those terms. for some, that pride and satisfication from promoting absolutely is enough.
