I'm stuck deciding between the two for my first insanity run. Which one did/would you choose?

:P as a vanguard player throughout the series, I would say Vanguard if you like "direct confrontation". Vanguard in ME3 are simply awesome imo.

Vanguards are extremely good, but I wouldn't recommend it for Insanity unless you're very sure in your own skill. It's not for the faint of heart.

Infiltrator and Sentinel are probably the "safest" Insanity classes.

I just finished my first playthrough with a vanguard on insanity. With charge spec'd for radius/barrier and nova on radius/halfblast/pierce it was easy mode. With that combo you've got great crowd control, and half blast nova means you can charge-nova and still have a lot of shields leftover for while you acquire your next target or get to cover. I took carnage spec'd for damage/armour damage to help with brutes and banshees. I maxed passives for health and shields and force damage/recharge. I also used the inferno armour, because it gives 25 or 30% power damage/recharge. I carried a katana/eviscerator/wraith and phalanx/carnifex/paladin as I got them. I had 150-180% cooldown.

I took Liara and EDI on virtually every mission. EDI has overload, which is very handy against all the enemies, and incinerate, which helps with armour. I didn't use decoy at all. Liara is key for setting up biotic explosions. Spec her abilities for bigger detonations, and use her to set up combos for yourself constantly.

Basically the whole game can be spent chaining nova and charge. Guns are optional in 90% of missions. The most challenging part was cerberus engineers and their turrets. Stasis+pistol headshots worked the best.

I played both. Equally easy imho. But Infiltrator was more fun...and I loved Vanguard in ME2.

Infiltrator always can do the shoot the hole in the shield for those pesky cerberus guardians :-)

True, Vanguards are relatively easier / more powerful in ME3.

Try Nova-less Vanguard. That what I'm doing.

I played my Infiltrator on my first run, my Vanguard on the second and Adept on the third (Yes, I already did 3 playthroughs because I hardly slept during the last week).

Infiltrator was kinda disappointing because of the problem that Sniper Rifles don't hit through shields. And Shotguns don't work that well in every level like they do in Multiplayer. Aside from that it was fun. Then I played my Vanguard and it was much more fun and the game was also easier although I had more than one "Fail Charge". I didn't play Charge/Nova only all the time but also used other skills and also used some heavier weapons at times like the Graal Shotgun.

And then I played the Adept and oh boy... this one is a beast. Because of the new system for biotic detonations plus the fact that not every enemy has some kind of protection like in ME2 the Adept is now the ultimate killing machine. The only sad thing is that I hardly find any use for the class skill (Singularity) because Pull/Throw and Warp/Throw are such good combos. The grenades can be fun too. At some point I just set my squadmates to auto-use their skills because I actually didn't give a damn about them as I was destroying everything so quickly by myself. It's so sad that the human Adept in Multiplayer just sucks because instead of giving him Warp/Throw/Pull he got this Singularity and Shockwave crap.

The Sniper Rifle issue wasnt a problem for me.. I obtained Warp Ammo.

I just beat Insanity with Vanguard. It wasn't too bad. Focus on charge/nova and reducing your cooldown to as little as possible.

Well I tried it with maximum Sniper Rifle Damage, Disruptor Ammo and Warp Ammo and I just can't do any damage at all to the health bar if the enemy has shields, even if it's only 1 bar left. I need 2 shots then... 1 to get ried of the shield and another to do damage to health. And needing 2 shots with rather slow firing weapons which need reloads after 1 shot like the Mantis or the Widow is just not cool. I had more DPS with the Raptor than with the Widow which is really not the way I prefer to a sniper Infiltrator build.

Well I've been addicted to the multiplayer part of Mass Effect 3. Just leveled up a Vanguard to level 20. Bronze is easy, but once it gets to Silver and Gold, I get my butt handed to me at least twice per run. The charge/nova combo is insanely powerful, but enemies like brutes, banshees, and atlas's always get their hands on me to insta-kill me. So Gold is any indication of how Insanity is, I'm sure I'm going to die quite a lot. I have yet to try out the infiltrator, so any tips on how to play that would help me reach my decision :)

Vanguard.
Biotic charge is quite useful when evading enemy and recharging shield. :D

I thought the same.  Then I started using it at 50% barrier with Inferno rounds and it's almost too easy.
1. Spray Inferno/Cryo rounds with SMG
2. Nova
3. Charge
4. Repeat

If you leveled your character properly it's unstoppable.    There is not an enemy in the game, besides the Reaper you kill on foot, that will be able to stop you.  Inferno rounds with the Tempest wil constantly light enemies on fire so you can blow them up with Nova.  Cryo rounds and Charge will do the same thing.  For Cryo rounds I use the Scorpion.  It's a beast.
