^^ The fact that you can see the mass relay explosions from outside the galaxy would seem to confirm this.

missing the big point, from what we've seen from Arrival, when a Mass Relay is destroyed it goes super nova, every mass relay in the galaxy was just destroyed... 'fraid there's no one left alive to worry about space travel now..
The destruction in ME3 seemed to be more a kind of 'turned off, then self destruct' rather then being destroyed while still having all that energy built up for the FTL launches.

the pulse released maynot have been a uncontrolled mass engine release, like in arrival. The relay in sol, as an example, it looks as though it released a pulse and then just fell apart. probably the pulse used up all the energy in the core.
