Funny thing though: I found I can shoot the pistol during the cutscene of Shepard getting up and grabbing it after getting blasted. Its funny because it does flare at the muzzle and makes the sound effect.
Edit: I just watched all three endings, though my readiness is in the 4000's so I know its not at tops yet. But here's what I think
The whole conversation with the kid sucks. First off, its voice is terrible and annoying. Shepard argues, but not nearly enough. I actually like the way the kid phrases the "control" option, telling Shepard he will lose everything. If there were other, good options, this would be a great one. The whole concept of making synthesis the best choice leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Once I choose, the ending becomes AWESOME for about a minute. The music is beautiful and touching. I love piano music and find it very moving. Put that with the visuals of Shepard's friends, the scenes of the fight on Earth, the blast from the Citadel/Crucible, and Shepard dissolving or surrounded in explosions. Even the Normandy fleeing and Joker's paniced expression (the plothole of the Normandy even being in Mass Relay transit notwithstanding) adds to this. At this point, I'm almost ready to feel good about the end.
Then they get out of the Normandy and look at a very beautiful world. That would be good if I felt like they had a chance for a good life, but I really don't. The exception would be Joker and EDI, but the scene of them together for the synthesis choice just looked really lame. Joker's electronic skin? Give me a break.
I think I would be good with the end if the relays weren't destroyed and it showed Shepard's surviving friends looking at a hopeful scene for the Galaxy minus the plotholes. Of course, I still want my Shepard lives option. This could still be a great story without it. Plenty of good stories have the hero make the ultimate sacrifice. But Shepard already died once in this war. Survival should be possible at least.
The "Epilogue" remains useless and lame.
