As many have already said in this thread alone, Bioware either patching the game or offering DLC to address this issue would be far less damaging to their reputation in the long run than the alternative. I for one would much rather purchase games from a developer that actually listens to its fanbase than not.

Also, would I pay for a "better ending"? Without a doubt.

I'd place the will and ability to own up to a mistake a better example of integrity than ignoring it.

It'd be a breath of fresh air for Bioware/EA to say, "hey, we frakked up." I don't expect free DLC, but an acknowledgement of the misstep would go a long way for me.

A company actually admitting they screwed up, saying sorry and doing something to fix it shows vastly more integrity than saying 'well we're happy with what we did, and don't care what anyone else thinks, thanks for the money, suckers!'

this.

and yes, i would pay, i keep making up head canon endings.. but they keep being overshadowed by reaper-boys annoying face!

It depends.

1. They can leave it as it stands. Some people shrug, a lot of people are angry, the game gets a "Ending Controversy" section over at Wikipedia, and that's the end of that.
2. They can retcon the ending. I hope they don't - while I would take it, I agree that it would feel fake.
3. They can extend the ending, or play off of it. I'm personally in favor of this one - add context, or an afterward, or an explanation that fully explains existing occurrences while still changing the tone. Harder, but definitely workable.

Head money's on #1. Heart money's on #3.

or what they can do is just end the game when Hackett said that the Crucible is not firing and Shephard is dead before he can reach the fire button.

If they are that committed to the "tragic" ending might as well end it like that, it really suits the theme

Agreed, they can keep the ending but they should add an epilogue explaining what happened to the rest of the galaxy

Besides the destructive ending wasn't that bad. Shep did what he set out to do but with a little collateral. Mass relays destroyed but it is only a matter of time before a suitable FTL system is reestablished. The galaxy is actually left in an interesting state. Although the Normandy scene really should have had them on earth.

The problem is the timescales to build a suitable FTL system basically dooms disconnected worlds without the right tech or resources even if they weren't hit by the war. Even each race's homeworlds may be doomed if they can't get enough resources to support themselves within their local systems.

How are they suppose to develop when there isnt enough fuel or food to even support their current populations. Plus the only magic element is element zero which provides massive amounts of energy and is basically powering everything still even after the gates are gone. All the ending does is set the galaxy back a whole age in technology.

The rarity of element zero will also make it difficult to rebuild any high energy use system.

The timescale may not be anywhere near as bad as you think. In the Sol system there are hundred of reaper wrecks with drives that moved an entire fleet thousands (hundreds of?) light years over the space of 3 years. Once scientists have examples of that, the technology is much quicker to develop.
