I'm trying to decide on my Infiltrator which Sniper to use but I don't like one shot Rifles. Valiant and Viper seem to fall in the middle ground between strong and multiple shots. Which is better? Or if I don't want a Widow is it best to go the total opposite and go with a very high rate of fire Rifle?

I really just adore my Valiant too much to give it up. If I have the spare credits I can test it on my next mission. (insanity ng+ so level X weapons) But the Valiant has yet to let me down thus far, although I have yet to mess around with the super heavy snipers. Even on Insanity Valiant can head shot everything I need.

Depends if you want stopping power or bigger magazine, personally I vastly prefer valiant over viper.

I asked because during Adrenaline Rush, over half the time I can get the Valiant's 3 shots in with a bit of time to spare. The Viper is just a bit weaker per shot but has 6 rounds per clip.

Another vote for Valiant. Very little recoil, fast reload time, good damage/weight ratio, good rate of fire can fire all 3 shots while in AR or using Cloak. Used both Viper, Black Widow, Widow, etc. on spectre shooting range I come back to the Valiant every time. Beautiful gun too.

Valiant. It's more balanced than the viper, though the viper was my go to sniper in ME2, and can fire 5-6 shots as a soldier before a reload if AR is used correctly. They have the same reload time, so the extra damage is more important to me, as I use it strictly with AR, where it's higher damage per shot is better for headshots.

Between Viper and Valiant I don't think there's that much of a decision, given that Valiant is basically better than Viper in every way. But the real question is...

Why not Black Widow? Pretty much the only reason not to use that over the other tactical snipers is if you really, really need the extra weight for something. It hits significantly harder than the other options and in practice it's more ammo efficient. It does reload slower than the Valiant, but effective DPS still seems higher for the Black Widow, and Valiant seems to run out of ammo quite a bit more (it fires faster, but doesn't carry enough more than the Black Widow to compensate for the damage loss).

The lighter snipers reallay aren't that great. Personally, I don't like using either one. If it's a sniper, it should take out my enemies in a snap, not X amount of shots in the face. If you want a multiple-shot sniper, take the Black Widow. 3 rounds, HUGE damage. Well worth the giant wallet needed to get it.

Are you playing on normal difficulty?

You always need atleast 2 shots to down a protected enemy on Insanity. The M-98, Javelin, Mantis, Black Widow, Valiant, and Viper will all kill protected enemies in 2 hits. Against unprotected enemies, they all kill in 1-shot(without the need for weapon damage armor mods). Only the Incisor and Raptor are incapable of 1-shotting unprotected enemies on Insanity.

Think about that logically for a second. If you wanted a gun that could kill multiple enemies in a snap, which gun would be the top choice out of the above?

A fully upgraded Locust (with Weight mod) and a Valiant/Viper lets my Soldier run at 200% Cooldown. That is important in my book to have Adrenaline Rush up ASAP.

If you want a powerful sniper rifle capable of killing almost all enemys with a headshot with multiple round capacity then you should try out the black widow. Only downside is that thing is heavy as hell

I'm pissed at how badly they nerfed the Viper. THat was a sick beast of a weapon in ME2, now it's one step above trash tier in 3.

Not everyone has the collector's edition, or wants to mod their game. The Viper is the next best thing if you don't have the Valiant. Both are still miles above all the other sniper rifles when it comes to taking out multiple enemies in rapid succession.

go with the valiant, it hits like a mantis, but the three shots almost makes it broken.

for me the black widow is was only better with my soldier. aganist armored targets, first three shots on the enemy, followed with Ad. Rush, on the head
