I'm skeptical; prove to me that you have more than 4000 EMS points.  Not TOTAL points. but EFFECTIVE points.

Are you talking about Assets or Effective Military Strength? I think this is what is confusing to people. My Assets bar is maxed out. Full green. Yet, I can not get my Effective Military Strength above 3750. That is with playing All DLC for the whole series and completeing 100% of all collections, side missions, quests etc. In both ME1 and ME2. I have also completed all side quests and missions in ME3

If the threshold for the optimal ending is at least 4,000 EMS. I can never get there unless I play Multiplayer.

That's really odd because as I stated earlier myself, I got 4k+ EMS and nearly 8k Total strength from SP alone. This is with an import save mind you.

Crack,

Did you have Conrad in your game?

I'm suspicious that may be the real crucial factor that makes the difference.

Is he worth around 300 points? That seems to be the delta a lot of us are seeing (3700 vs 4000).

Let me see if I can snag you a screenshot real fast guys.

Edit: Ok, something odd for me - I didn't do any multi till after I beat the game once. Oddly enough, my EMS has degraded to 3966 and TMS of 7212. Will post screencap still once I upload it.

Conrad is in my game. Mind you I did save the Council in my import save. So maybe that is the problem?

THIS tying up of the Readiness to the multiplayer is THE WORST DECISION EVER, it's a slap to us.
I am NOT gonna pay for XBox live to get the MP to work for this. I bought Mass Effect because it's the best RPG story ever, Why o Why do you need to kick me repeatedly for not liking multiplayer on consoles.

BW you seriously let us down here

XBOX players were SCREWED. They have to PAY to play multiplayer (not counting the lame two days of free play).

PS3 and PC players shouldn't whine about this. Multiplayer is fun and it's easy to rank up your score. If you got an internet connection, go at it.

But this is extremely unfair to XBOX players, bioware and EA ... not cool dudes. Not cool.

No. I can't recall the exact number, but I only got a dissertation from him and it was only worth about 5-10 points. However, it was using a paragon save and I am not sure that factors into it. Though, IIRC he dies in ME2 if you renegade him.

@BIO18, yeah. You were maxed out in EMS only half-way through the game? k.

You needed to collect the asari writing from ME1 to get his full point values. Actually kind of cool that there was a throwback to that.

I understand where you are coming from.

Check this out.  Multiplayer is fun.  I enjoyed the crap out of the few hours I did.  It was crazy, silly, challenging fun.

And I'll never play it again.

The fact that I had to turn off my single player game - put it on hold for four of my gaming hours - because some dude up at Bioware thought it would be fun and beneficial to me and finacially beneficial to them to get more people into multiplayer (and therefore buying the level up packs through the Bioware store) annoys me.

No, scratch that.

It pisses me off.

I hate being controlled.  I hate doing things other insist I should.  This is my play time that I fit in around a full time professional job and I'll use it how I damn well see fit.

Bioware took that control away from me.  "If you want to see the best ending you'll do it our way."

I played along this time.  I played along because I was already hooked on Mass Effect and wanted to see how it ended.  But I won't make the same mistake again.

This in combination with the endings and the Day 1 DLC (which I already had because I forked out money for the Collector's Edition) represented a betrayal of trust that Bioware had been building up with me since I played Shattered Steel in 1996.

It doesn't bother you?  Ok.  Good.  I'm actually very happy for you.

But I paid my money just like you did and the opinions I have on how I have been treated as a customer are just as valid as yours and more valid than Biowares.  I am the customer.  And after this game, me and my money are walking away.

Here's my first game - it's been about 3 days since I beat it.

http://img846.images...01203110919.jpg

Edit: I'm starting to wonder even about my score though - why has it started to degrade AFTER I beat the game/did some MP? I thought only Readiness decayed, not EMS/TMS?

Well, hmm. You clearly played MP since your Readiness rating is 55% instead of 50% and your EMS isn't at 4k or over. Your TMS is well over 5k, but that isn't what counts. You have to have a 4k EMS and “save Anderson” to see the Deep Breath.

Your Readiness Rating is based on MP, which decreases 1% a day if you don't play it. So, if you got your 4k EMS by using MP, which you clearly did—that is why it decreased also.

This is my problem as well. Due to my job and family commitments. I can't devote as much time to playing games as most of you. I may only get to play a game an hour at most a day. Some days not even that. If I'm lucky on the weekends I can get a few more hours in. If I get a rare few days off like I did this week I can jam a lot it. However, that's an exception.

But now I am forced to play MP. What makes it worse is that my Readiness will decrease if I don't play. So I am punished twice. I'm punished because I can't get the full optimal conclusion to my game without playing MP. Then I'm punished if I do play MP but don't play it enough.

Funny thing is you are never FORCED to do anything. None of the endings have a major difference anyway.

Just to add my own weight in here. I'm really annoyed with this too.

Played ME since the first and imported my games over all the way through. Scanned all the planets I could in ME3 and done all the side quests I had listed, and am now at the 'commit' point with 3498 EMS.

Now I find that I'm way short of what's needed for the best endings available, even after working my way through the entire series with a clean paragon record.

Why? Where's the info in the game explaining the war assets and what's required...?

Yup, that's right. Nothing in the game. I have to search to Interwebs to find out that I've been screwed over on the best endings, after playing through all three games!

That is rubbish. Seriously annoyed over this. Why should I have to effectively 'rescue' my single player campaign by playing multiplayer...?

Good way to trip up your loyal fans at the last hurdle, Bioware. Thanks a bunch.. -_-

Remember - I played MP after beating this game. I didn't do any MP aside from redeeming some packs prior to this. My readiness yesterday was 56% after a couple of MP games played over the last couple days. During the playthrough, it was 50%. So, color me a tad confused.

From the official guide, to get full benefits from the Conrad subquest you need to fulfill the following:
- completed  UNC:Asari Writings
- completed  Feros:Data Recovery
- purchased an Elkoss Combine license
- completed Citadel:Rita's Sister

It doesn't specify what the number actually is, so I don't know how helpful it is. Funnily enough, I fullfil all the requirements but completely missed the first conversation with Conrad and thus, missed his contribution.

I'm pretty sure I did most of the sidequests and got around 3700 effective rating.

I was curious as to why people are so opposed to the multiplayer, but this does answer it.  If, however, you're on PS3/PC, there really is no reason to not try the multiplayer.  If you don't want to play with other players, you can just play by yourself.  You won't get very far at first, but as long as you do 3/6 waves, you get a few percentages.  And it's good practice.

Edit: also, from what I've read, there is a certain way you can get a pretty big bonus to your EMS in the game, but it involves a very renegade decision (involving Tuchanka).  Not sure how much it was worth though, as I haven't tried it yet.

I'm really sick of the guys coming into this thread saying "stop whining i got 10k points and i'm in the middle of the game" BUT they do not provide a single screenshot of having achieved that WITHOUT multiplayer.

First people posting here should realize that Total Points are useless what people here are discussing is the EFFECTIVE military strenght which is the only measure that influence the endings.

Hope it is clear that we "whiners" want to know how to achieve the "best" ending without MP since BW stated it is possible but actually none posted a single screenshot with 4000+ Effective Military Strenght with a 50% Galactic Readiness.

It would have only subtracted points you gained from MP. Not points you gained before MP that was gained from SP only. So, yeah. You played MP to gain your GMS up to 4,000.
