How does one defeat revenants?  I'm stuck at the one encountered at the Tower of the Magi, after Redcliffe.  In my party are myself (rogue), Wynne, Alistair and Leliana.

I defeated the one or two I'd encountered before, but this one keeps handing my behind to me, even when I micromanage Wynne's spell use.

Thanks for any help

You give your melee-members ranged weapons, and then you keep a mage spamming heals on the tank. If needed you can chug health potions too. The worst thing you can do is to have too many in close combat because of that nasty aoe of his.

Edit:
Or, since you only have your rogue in close combat (guessing that Leliana is an archer), change Wynnes tactics to only heal Alistair, while you move back and forth from the Revenant keeping yourself alive via potions. The most important thing is to keep the tank alive.

Revenants have some strange ablities tht allow them to hit multiple targets with each melee attack. It doesn't seem to be active all the time but if your rogue(s) suddnely drop dead without ever having real aggro, it's probably becase the Rev used this ability.

Only the tank in melee and the rest of the party with ranged weapons is in fact the best way to deal with them.

I actually have had pretty good results with Alistair and my rogue in melee and Wynne and Morrigan healing (both spirit healers) and whatnot.

Debuff > Buffs

Heal can be seen as a buff, replace Wynne with Morrigan. Cone of Cold + Misdirection Hex, need I say more?

I killed revenants by runing them around. Who ever get's the aggro from revenant stays on the move and all others keep hitting him with ranged attacks. Healed the unit who is hitted and used potions also.

I got Alistair to tank, Shale in DPS mode, Wynne healing, buffing and attacking and my mage character blasting and healing as well. He wasn't too bad for me, more grindy than an actual threat. We were level 8/7 at the time.

Well ... there is no space for running around in the Magi tower, though.

I myself did what was already described - Alistair tanking, Leliana arrowing (and singing), myself and Wynne chain healing. Also the occasional potion.

I killed the one in the mage tower with Shale tanking, Wynne healing, and myself and Zevran as dualwield rogues. Just keep non tank meele behind it, and focus heal the tank. The rogues gota survive mainly on pots, and maybe a group heal here and then.

My standard way of beating Revs, at least until I got to higher levels, was:

1)wipe and retry

2)wipe and retry

3)drop difficulty from hard to normal

4)wipe and retry

5)grumble several invectives and drop difficulty to easy

6)beat rev with melees while Morganna kept throwing frost spells at him.

I had Alistair fighting him head on. Leliana and my two mages spread out hitting him with ranged attacks. And healed when I needed to.

2H and Tanks are the way of it. I had no issues defeating them with Sten, Alastier, My Main & Ogrhan. Just chomp at them till they fall. Long range can fall victim to telekensis attacks, pulling the archer closer to the revanent.

it's a matter of stunning him up so he can't use his most nasty stuff. check your character tactics about their setting for those skills, don't send your melees in unless they've enough knock down and stun skills or if you have a mage which can keep him stunned all the time ... which is unlikely if you concentrate on one or 2 forms of magic like most probably do because of the cooldowns then and because they tend to resist sometimes.

Wow that's the perfect party killing Revenants! hehe Just remember to heal Alistair as tank and then group heal when he does the swipe thing. Also cast regen on Alistair Then let Leliana auto attack. Just heal, pots, heal, use abilities that works. If you think you can't heal the PC then maybe switch him to long range as well? For focus healing on Alistair.

You've got TWO rogues in your party? AND a warrior? Wow, that's a real waste of party space.

Anyway, revenants go down easily when two mages are spamming Cone of Cold on them. Force field if you need breathing space. Possible to take them out without even taking damage.

But it's an awesome party !
I used that too on my 1st playthrough, and it's really fun to play, all these characters fit really well together (because Leliana is spec'ed in such a way that you can easily make another rogue without overlapping her own role : going dual wield and stealth). Sure, they're not the best at defeating stuff, but that's besides the point.

Misdirection Hex + Death Hex almost guaranteed I WIN even on nightmare. Makes Gaxkang a joke as well.

Hexes are good to go. Paralysis works too, from time to time. Get a rogue with paralysis runes on the weapons, have a tank get some aggro and then start whacking away... Even on nightmare I only had difficulty with one, but from the juggernaut armour questline, cause it spwned in an uncomfortable place...

Two words: Telekinetic Weapons. Your attacks will deal enough damage to take it down before it can do any serious damage.

misdirection hex is a godsend against enemies like revenants.
