My standard way of beating Revs, at least until I got to higher levels, was:
1)wipe and retry
2)wipe and retry
3)drop difficulty from hard to normal
4)wipe and retry
5)grumble several invectives and drop difficulty to easy
6)beat rev with melees while Morganna kept throwing frost spells at him.

the first rev you encounter can be a **** to kill, cause you encounter him about 1-3 lvls before your heroes get gear and necessary skills. I recently did the mage tower rev on nightmare as my first rev in that playthrough and i had 2rouges (pc+leli)+alister+wyn, and that lineup were just to weak at that point but i noticed you can bug the mage tower rev, pm if you want details.

I think the best way to analyze different tactics for a certain battle, is to have a "Last Battle Stats" section in the character sheet.

All I can say is try to spread out they do nasty aoe damage so you're better off with a tank and 3 ranged

Yeah, I'd like to see a text commentary 'de-briefing' screen to analyse each character's part in a battle in detail. Yuo can see what's working and where you can make improvements without having to do so in the heat of battle.

If you are doing the circle tower very early and have not yet given your tank taunt, it IS possible to run the Rev around.  If you have Morrigan, it will usually end up chasing her due to more of her damage and spells affecting it than your melee or Wynne (who is usually in full healing mode for this).  But whoever has the Rev's aggro, the method is the same.  The clutter in the room is annoying to navigate but it can also help keep the Rev off its intended prey.  It will inevitably try to Pull your runner to him, at which point you need to duck behind a pillar so that it stops you from landing at the thing's feet... which is bad.

Tedious, but you can whittle it down like this if you have to, though it will take forever if all you have is melee and no debuffs to help them.  I suppose many consider kiting an AI exploit, but then in my book so is taunt.  It may be working as intended but it's still a hack someone dreamed up the first time they realized that tanks were useless without the magical ability to *make* everyone attack them (which somehow works on creatures who ought to be immune to insults) even though it's the worst thing possible for them to be doing.

Doesn't "Cone of Cold" pretty much own all Revenants? (and every other boss for that matter)

Or are you playing on Nightmare or something and they're immune?

Use the dog to kite it. War dog is faster than other characters, and is not affected by the Revenant pulling ability (it just gets stuck for a second or two). Keep the rest of your party just shooting at the Revenant (do not engage in melee). Forcefield is a good way to reset aggro, should the dog lose it. When it expires, the Revenant will attack the nearest character again (that ofc has to be the dog).

I killed revenants by runing them around. Who ever get's the aggro from revenant stays on the move and all others keep hitting him with ranged attacks. Healed the unit who is hitted and used potions also.

I did this, but the runner[which ever Mage l had at the time] was also blasting it with Lightning every chance l got.

Sharle with fire does good dps, but I normally use whatever I have as a group. Usually thats Wynne for heals, Lyianna shooting, allistair tanking, and my character pissing it off. Get it to aggro you and you can run around the benchs in the magi tower, if it starts trying to pull you to it get a pillar between you so you don't go far.

wow, lots of good info here. Thanks everyone; based on what I have in my team atm I'll hit him with ranged while Alistair tanks and Wynne heals.

Now to sort out how I can do all that without rewriting everyone's tactics :)

Learn Hexes. No boss should ever die without a white circle under their corpse.

Is the PS3 version bugged or something? Rev's have always been immune to frost spells when ive played.

lol, good luck with Gaxkang is all I have to say.

It's brutal, enjoy.

Only way Gaxkang will be hard is if you place everyone in a tight knit group infront off him and throw Mana Clash and other large one hit abilities out the window. Its all about placement, and total nukage. A little frost(I think its frost anyway) resistance can't hurt either. That and not wasting attacks he's immune to in his various phases.

As others have said:

Fool proof method: Run the person with aggro around and around. Guaranteed to work on any difficulty.

yeah I did that too with alistair running around long chair with morrigan, wynne and my rogue attacking it with spells and arrows =P

once in a while swallowing health potions helped too

when he used pull, the long chair prevented Alistair to be pulled lol

They are immune to cold damage as you can see in the movie I linked. (My sword has +8 total cold damage with 2 runes and he display immune+immune every time I hit him). They can be frozen for zero damage though.

This same char in my first run, Hard diff, has Gaxkang recorded as most powerful enemy killed! Looking forward to meet him again in Nightmare.

If the revenant has a bunch of friends like in the forest, I keep it in forcefield while the team deals with the rest. Once they are dead, I use Cone of Cold and let the rest of my party take it down.

I just got Curse of Mortality...I didn't really believe the Codex about Revanants health regeneration until I popped one of these on them. Makes it WAY easier.
