So far my preference has been the Valiant. I was using the Eagle until I got the Scorpion

It is possible to get to "X" but that involves starting a NG+ which a lot of people are not doing.

Is it going to be like ME though, where your second playthrough (so not neccessarily a NG+) has the higher level available? I seem to recall in my 2nd ME playthrough as a different class I found level X accessible. I'd hope it's the same deal here.

I have the guide book and this is what it says.
 
"As an added bonus, Shepards who have completed one playthrough of Mass Effect 3 are able to upgrade their guns even further than before. The first playthrough restricts weapon upgrades at level 5(V); repeat playthroughs allow for upgrades up to level 10(X)."

I have heard it only works for NG+ however, reading this it leads me to believe that all you have to do is start another game. But I do believe it would be easier to upgrade with the extra money from a NG+ if thats the case.

I don't think there's a "Rich" achievement for ME3, so might as well blow all the left over credits on things that carry over to a NG+, at least that's what I'm doing.

Another Valiant vote. I've used all the sniper rifles as you have at the spectre range. When you factor mods, weight, rate of fire, reload times, it is in my opinion the best sniper rifle in the game. My soldier and infiltrator could just bring 3 mobs down in a heartbeat. Would love to see it in MP as well.
