The Crucible should have been a Mass Relay

Imagine if the Crucible was a Mass Relay (it bears very similar design to one) that lead to an star system undiscovered by the organics of many cycles past, only the creators of the reapers themselves so many million years ago.  The simple story change could lead to a brand new end game decision, activate the Crucible Relay and allow any ships that go through it to enter a new star system free from future cycles, but the reapers will continue to wage war on the current cycle in the Milky Way, OR detonate the core of the Crucible relay, unleashing the EMP-like blast core that would destroy all synthetic life in the Milky Way galaxy with the same energy that prevents them from using it, not unlike ME3's "destroy" ending.

Imagine that if you choose the relay, any ship that passes through it now has a chance to cooperate and repopulate in a brand new star system away from everything that they know now, and start from scratch without the fear of another cycle.  However, the current war with the reapers would continue, and some of Shepard's allies from previous games would still lose their lives attempting to get to the Crucible Relay, but Shepard would survive.  Shepard would also teleport back to the Earth via the pillar, and call the Normandy to let them know of what the relay is for and to ask for extraction, during which point, the player would have to survive an onslaught of reaper forces for about 5 minutes alone, and if Shepard lost all his health, he ends up dead in the epilogue.

Imagine if you chose the destroy relay ending, the current reaper invasion dies immediately, causing no more organic casualties other than Shepards, as he is partly syntehtic, but all of Shepards surviving previous squad mates stay alive.  The galaxy doesn't have to restart, and they get to keep what they know without the fear of another invasion.

A much more meaningful choice.  Shepard for you friends, or friends for your Shepard, with a hell of a lot more storytelling capabilities for both endings.

Except that it wouldn't be fair to those who died in the battle.

What i mean is, we didn't gather everyone here on Earth to flee from the reapers. We gathered everyone here to fight. No one other than utter cowards would choose to go through the relay and leave their families behind for the reaper to harvest.

Also, if the crucible is a relay all Reapers have to do is destroy any ship that get remotely close to the relay before they get a chance to phase jump. And what do you mean by the pillars? The pillars from Transformer 3?

I forgot to add to my post that I meant for the reapers gaol to cause devastation to the cycles of the galaxy to ultimately have been unstoppable. The game would have been a lot more depressing (in a good way) if the reapers weren't capable of being defeated, they haven't been for hundreds of cycles, why should this cycle be different? The point of the catalyst should be something that frees the cycle that reaches it from future cycles with consequences to the choice made. And by the pillar, I meant the pillar of light that takes Shepard to the Catalyst from London.

It's not made to be fair, its made to show that even though everyone fought so hard, there was no way they were going to win this war. Their prize for simply surviving would be a chance to start anew. It's a melancholy and sad ending, but also gives hope to the optimistic. Perhaps the destroy ending could also destroy the mas relays as they did in the original endings as well, to balance out the consequences between the two choices.
