After playing through the game, I am one of the people who is completely pissed at the way Bioware blew the ending of the game.  A great game, a great game series, which at least for me was wasted becuase of the last 10 minutes. 

So, thought about it for a couple hours, and came up with my own ending.  I'd love to hear your opinions on it, and whether you think its better then what Bioware spent months thinking about.

So leading up to the final showdown,  Shepard and the crew realize that the citadel is the keep, to victory. A big duh, for the players but moving on,  They also figure out that everything they've done up till now are the same things every other race had tried, and that what they need to do is something new.  Looking at all the evidence, they determine that the Citadel is really the intelligence behind the reapers, and is cooridinating the reapers activities, destroying the citadel may fracture the reaper forces, and allow the Allied forces a chance.  

The combined fleet is moved to the citadel to evacuate it, while shepard and work in the counsel chambers on destroying the station.  As the evacuation is almost complete.  The reaper forces attack, the active jamming teh reapers put out make remove detenation impossible, and as they are already landing on the station, Shepard, orders his team out, stating that he'll ride this out to ensure the bomb goes off.  If Shepard has a romantic relationship in the game, that person will stay no matter what shepard wants, Otherwise Garris will stay. 
The rest of the team evacs to a shuttle, and heads for the relay,   just before reaching it, they watch as the station blows up. 

Jump ahead to Shepard's funeral,  Admiral Hackett states that the destruction of the Citadel was the event that changed the course of the war, that the reapers lost their Cohesion and the war, while still far from won, is now a war that can be won. 

After the funeral, the other party members discuss Shepard, and what it must have been like in those last minutes. 

Jumping back to the Citadel,  Shepard Sets the bombs Timer,  for 'X' minutes and arms it,  Reaper forces attack Shepard and who ever is with him, have to fight off a few waves,  at about 5 minutes.  The attacks have ended, an shepard sits down to away the end, Who ever is with Shepard suddenly turns and yells about the mass relay to ilos.  Shepard and companion then race for the elevator, yell at it to go faster, and after hotwiring the relay with seconds to spare,  go through it, right as the station explodes.

Jumping back to the funeral, the companions remark on thinking of Shepard and however was with him, relaxing under the stars, at peace.  At which point we jump back to ilos where Shepard and his companion are sitting, looking up at the stars.  The last words spoken in the game before the Credits are Shepard stating "So how long do you think we should wait..." and roll credits...

So what do you think? bearing in mind, I came up with it in a couple hours...
