Ignoring the last ten minutes of gameplay, it was one of the most powerful and moving experiences in media, in my opinion. It's epic in scope, the gameplay was terrific, multiplayer is fun, and the characters are exactly what I've come to expect from the Mass Effect series.

My only two complaints are that the quest log sucks and I don't like the new Reputation system.
I can't even bring myself to call it the Paragon/Renegade system because you rarely even get P/R points and it's only ever for the most heroic/heinous of acts.
The former is a minor thing, and the latter is personal preference. Otherwise the game is damn near perfect.

I personally would rate it a 10/10. I'm more inclined towards the story rather than technical issues, so I tend to glaze over the small stuff. But, honestly, I freaking laughed and cried and got angry when someone my Shepard cared about got hurt. I've never experienced a video game that made me feel so connected and in tune with my character. Only to have it ripped away and stepped on in 10 minutes. Ugh. Brutal.

With the exception of losing some of my beloved crew members from ME2, and the overly depressing ending, the game was fantastic. I loved it loved it loved it.

Best game of the trilogy. The ending really should just been when the crucible connects to the Citadel, and used a emp type burst to destroy the Reapers. Shep then could have just closed his eyes and died right next to Anderson. That would been a lot more fitting. No god child, or Relays being destroyed and no Normandy crash landing on some random ass planet.

Ignoring the ending:
Game was very good, some very nice moments, action, joy, sadness, fun, laughter, I think it had it all.
But it's missing an ending.

Best Story: ME1.
Best Combat: ME3.
Best Overall: ME2.
Worst Ending: ME3. - YEah I know it's the only one with an ending technically, but bleh.
ME3 was great until the end. Side quest system was . . . obnoxious but the side quests themselves were fun. Framerate sucked. Bugs were infrequent but present, but overall a great game until the last five minutes.

If you don't factor the ending into your analysis, it was amazing. That's a big "if" though...

ME3 was a good game but I enjoyed ME2 better. A lot more squad members makes the game far more enjoyable..at least to me. And your choices actually matter in ME2 which doesn't hurt.

Funny somebody mentioning a great day ending with getting shot. Because you know what a good comparison here is? Clerks.
A really funny movie that broke ground in a lot of ways. But Kevin Smith thought a movie had to be "angsty" in order to be noticed by anyone, so out of nowhere Dante got shot at the end of the original ending.
Did it make the rest of the movie any less funny because it ended that way? No, but the ending cast a pall over the whole thing, and when the producers finally came to Smith and said, "The movie's good... except for that inexplicable downer ending," he changed it, and ended up a geek superstar.
So, that's what Mass Effect 3 is like to me: Clerks with the original ending. I love everything that came before it, but the ending just makes everything that came before it seem pointless.

The best of the trilogy, yes, if I ignore the endings.
I never thought that ME1 could be outdone but, I mean in terms of GAME-PLAY, yes it's better. There ARE some moments in ME1 that are still better (confrontation against Saren, or the overall pace of the story-telling which I still believe to this day was perfectly outlined before us), but overall ME3 has done it right, taking the best elements (generally speaking) from ME1 and ME2, and mixing them up masterfully.
The only things I don't like in ME3 is the lack of information on the galaxy map, for some reasons most missions aren't indicated (on the star clusters), only the most important ones are but... some remain to be found manually by exploration, it's a bit annoying due to the risk of having to fly away thanks to Reapers chasing you if you scan too much (but that game-play mechanic becomes redundant fast). Also I don't like how basically there's so little mission tracking once you're on the level, mostly on the Citadel... and also I don't really like how I have to walk pass by every single NPCs out there before and after each main missions just to make sure that I'm picking up all side missions for War Assets.
But anyway, that's minor complaints. I DO rate ME3 the highest of the trilogy, it's just the best of all three for me, despite being dark and grim overall compared to both previous titles, but that's normal the Reapers are there, it's real this time, no council will deny it, war is there and it shows, there's tension everywhere (even on the Normandy). But the whole thing is just epic... until... yeah.

If you ignore the ending, this was a 10/10 game for me. Though ME2 was slightly better and ME1 slightly below that, ME3 was right up there with ME2. I only found the setting was not as personal but it felt epic and grand and I was making a difference.
Problem is i didn't in the end. We saved humanity and the galaxy but to what end?

Ignoring the endings, it's indeed a terrific game and much better than I initially thought it would be. It manages to focus on the main storyline again like ME1 did, but the presentation is so much better this time around. Shepard is also no longer a brick wall and actually shows some emotion this time around. while this does mean you have a bit less control over how "your" Shepard acts, I still like the end result. Gameplay and graphics have improved more than I thought they would from Mass Effect 2 (I only regret the lack of HD textures, it would make the game look so much better). Overall, I think it's better than Mass Effect 2 in just about every way. There's a bit more bugs than I'd like, but I hope those will end up being fixed. So yeah, up until the last 10 minutes I think the game definitely deserves the review scores it's getting.
