This is the part I've never been sure about. Because there's so many weapons, it's hard to tell what's best for squadmates. Or if upgrades for accuracy matter to them.
So what exactly did everyone give to their squad?

I've got basically the same question. I figure I gave my squadmates "crap" so I'm willing to learn.
Another question: Can I assume that squadmates have the same weight vs. cooldown issues as Shep has???

Does it actually matter? My squadmates seems to go splat the second a fight gets even remotely difficult anyway.

Squadmates have no weight penalties so you can load them up with the heavy stuff without any issues.

AWESOME ... I will do just that then. That also explains some of the "crap" weapon damage performance of my squad ... I wasn't doing it right!!!
I guess it's Black Widow time for my boy Garrus.

Are you sure about the weight penalties?
For Edi and Liara, I like to give them the Carnifex or Paladin and either the Hurricane (if you have it) or the Locust.
AR wielding Squaddies usually do well with the Vindicator (since they shoot in bursts anyway) or Falcon - once you get it. I have not been happy with the Mattock on them since it is Semi-auto with no burst.
The Evi is a great Shotgun for Shep and Squaddie alike. The Claymore is also good since it has such great damage and decent range.
When it comes to Sniping, I've had mixed results (they miss a lot). That said, the Mantis is a safe bet until you get the Widow, and the Geth Sniper Rifle (forgot the name) has been decent as well.

Weight penalties don't seem to matter. There is no scale for squaddies, and I don't feel any noticeable difference in CDs.
I've loaded my squaddies with the heaviest weapons I have in stock, buffed them with squad cryo, and now they practically carve swaths through enemy waves on their own. I still take all the aggro, do power combos and protect them from flanking attacks, but they do the lionshare of DPS now.
I remember doing the monastary and basically just watching Banshees wander around being melted by Particle Rifle fire. It was really weird. In a sorta welcome way though. Then I did N7 Reactor and the first few Rannoch missions... then it started feeling unfair.

No data or gameplay reasoning, but I give my squadmates the collector ship weapons from ME2 just because I can. James with both a revenant and claymore? I don't care how effective it is, that's just cool.

Best is the M-37 Falcon with cryo ammo. The blast seems to freeze multiple enemies. Thats not 100% confirmed yet so test it out. And the Scorpion or Arc Pistol for biotics. The best gun in the game ofcourse, the Geth Plasma Shotgun. That should go on anyone who can take it.

I just got through doing the final battle for London, with Ash loaded with a Falcon and Garrus was toting around a Javelin, both weapons modded with barrels and piercing mods. They seemed to have little to no effect at all on cooldown times and the Falcons with cryo ammo it just felt like cheating, especially considering your squad-mates have infinite ammo.

Doesn't really matter. Just use them for abilities. My Insanity loadout was:
level 60 Vanguard with Energy Drain
EDI (incinerate, overload)
Liara (warp)
With this it was incredibly easy.
In terms of weapons, I just was using an Avenger X and the standard pistol (forget the name). My squadmates were using the standard pistol and submachine guns.

These are the generalizations I have observed regarding squadmate weapons. Squadmates typically only pop out of cover for a short time in order to minimize the damage they take, making sustained DPS weapons generally unsuitable (with two exceptions). Your best bet is to go for the most powerful single shot/burst/semi-auto weapons you can use.
I usually had Ash with the Revenant to take advantage of her Marksman power and Javik with the Particle Beam. This resulted in enormous amounts of damage, though Garrus with a sniper rifle can easily rival it.
Assault Rifles: Falcon and Vindicator are effective (oddly enough, Mattock doesn't seem to do as well). Strangely, due to sheer damage potential, the Particle Beam and Revenant are also extremely capable in squadmate hands--most likely because their sheer ramped-up sustained DPS counteracts the low fire time, and squadmates stay out for longer bursts with those weapons.
Sniper Rifle: Anything single-shot will do. Squadmates are notoriously less damaging with the semi-auto weapons in this one. Javelin, Widow, or Mantis is your best bet.
Shotgun: Go big or go home. Claymore, Crusader, Eviscerator, Geth Plasma Shotgun, Note: I forgot to test the Spike Thrower, but I assume it's probably awesome
SMG: Squadmates don't seem to work too well with this weapon, but I've seen limited success with the Hurricane and the Hornet. SMGs are just in general not good weapons in ME3.
Heavy Pistol: Carnifex and Paladin are king.
These are the weapons that, on my first playthrough of Insanity, seemed to do the most damage per squadmate burst when they would exit cover and fire on an enemy. Anyone is of course free to add or challenge this list if their experiences have differed.
Weapons that squadmates seem to fail with for some reason (do not use): Scorpion, Mattock, Chakram Launcher, Argus, Arc Pistol.

If you have 'From the Ashes' I'd recommend using the Assault Rifle that Javik has (can't remember the name off the top of my head and not at home).
Also has infinite ammo.
I've been using it on my New Game+ as a class 10 weapon. Get yourself Ashley and Vega equipped with it as well and you are unstoppable.

I usually roll with Javik and Liara. (I am not a fan of other squadmates, at all).
Javik uses his Particle Rifle. Liara is given Scorpion.

For minion fights: I played a biotic so I was looking for combinations with liara's singularity (combo it with double throw and spec for combo explosions - really unfair against cerberus, but they deserve it). So i needed a good gun for her - I recommend the basic submachinegun.. For this reason: give her a disabling squad ammo power: cryo is best, but inferno not bad. The chance of the special power triggering depends on number of hits, not damage. So I wanted the weapon that puts the most well aimed shots on target in one burst. The base SMG gives 6 shots fairly tight group - garbage for damage, but pretty much guarantee you'll freeze/panic the enemy. Then they are easy pickings for your squad.
In tight corridor fights.. the scorpion with cryo ammo was unfair on liara/edi. Yeah, they never hit anything, but in tight spaces, the scorpion doesn't have to... those little grenades are murderous.
For standard DPS, can't beat Garrus with a big ****g gun. Widow is the best choice probably, but.... if you have squad cryo... the raptor actually works pretty well, because he manages to fire off 5-6 round bursts fater than I can.
Of course... for the final fight where everything is a heavyweight, these little tricks don't work.. then go back to Garrus - Widow, Ash - Widow, or James - Graal to crack that armor.. Also, for that fight, strip out the armor piercing mods - those enemies have no health bar under their armor, so piercing has no effect.. get barrel length/high caliber, concentration/stabilizers or chokes for SGs. Those last three increase hit chance. Kind of like taking the collector base with thane-viper-warp ammo and legion-widow-squaddie warp ammo.

Different strokes, different folks.... I happen to love the Valkyrie, which has replaced the Revanant as my Soldier's standard AR.pomrink wrote...

Does it really matter? I completed the game on Insanity well enough without even bothering with what weapons they had, just left them with the ones they started the game with with no mods. Inventory system in this game is so redundant.

If you pick two Garrus and James with Particle Rifles and use James Squad Incendiary Ammo you can basically just let the game play on Insanity itself because every enemy melts so fast you barely get a chance to kill something yourself. Completely boring.
