I don't suppose I'll much argument when I say that relationships are VERY disappointing in ME3.  Particularly in the case of Jack and Miranda, who are practically non-existent in ME3.

Here's what I would have done:
  • Removed Garus from the permanent team (or I suppose Liara, but Garus was on the M2 team and Liara not - also Garus's powers are similar to Ashley and Vega).
[Didn't mean for this to be a "remove Garus" thread, which for reasons unknown seems to be what some people are focusing on.  "Keep Garus and add an additional team member" would also work fine.  Or drop Vega - who seems pretty pointless - and add a team member.]
  • Added the relationship choice of ME2 (which may be Garus) as a permanent team member, adding appropriate content on the Normandy to keep things interesting.
  • Left the Tali / Jack / Miranda / Jacob / Thane related missions unchanged for people who didn't take them as a relationship, and giving Garus equivalent content.
Relationships are such an important part of the game, to consign them to irrelevance so completely is an utterly bizarre decision on the part of the part of BioWare's ME3 design team.

Well, not Jack's voice acting or sense of humor, which seemed to remain pretty much intact, but for the rest of it...

Yah, I love ya via voicemail... That's a fun ending.

Ah a fellow Jack fan! I share your issues with Jack as well... I was pretty pissed out about it.

Me to Bioware after no Jack romance - "I WILL SMEAR THE WALLS WITH YOU ****!!!!"

If you think Jack and Miranda had bad romances, you should have romanced Jacob or Thane.

Liara's was ****ing amazing. Great scenes and interactions. Only thing I would've changed was the constant failure in not changing up some non-romance dialogue up to romance dialogue. For instance, she calls you a 'friend' a few times.

I assume you are unaware that Garrus is a LI in ME2?

Garus!

You might as well remove Shepard as well. Garus's/tali have always been the main stables of the series and fav's...

Well, then remove someone else or just add another team member. Or if you want Garus so badly just sleep with him.

The point is that relationships suck.

I went with Tali and Garrus from me1 and Im extremely happy with how BW handled it. The friendship with Garrus really evolved and the citadel scene was fantastic. The romance with Tali was also amazing, loved how close Shepard and Tali grew.
It was nice to meet all the team members that survived me1 and me2 again, even though I would have liked the meetings to be longer. Thumbs up to BW from me : )

They should just have added all previous squad mates to the team really. Exception being: Mordin, Thane, Legion and Wrex which are all portrayed quite well in the game.

Also, Garrus is the ultimate bro, I would not replace him for anyone.

As a Tali fan I was extremely happy with the Shep-Tali stuff in ME3.

Having said that, if I was Thane, Miranda, Jack, or Jacob fan I'd be so pissed it wouldn't even be funny. I really feel bad for how that turned out for those people. :(

I would say the some of the relationship themes are lacking. But the overall dialouge was much much better in ME3 than ME2. Well....this is coming from someone who romanced Tali. So I guess it might of really really sucked if you didn't romance anyone on the ME3 team.

This was something that was confusing to me, people went off on them for not allowing them to continue Mass Effect 1 romances in 2(Shadow Broker came later so I'm counting that as a fix to the whining), and then they go off and do the exact same thing again. It makes less sense then the ending.

That or they just assume every gaming nerd(male or female) just wants to sex up blue aliens and the rest of the romance options don't exist.

It would have been nice if they allowed you to swap squad members. For example you can choose to NOT have Ashley back in your squad. This would leave space for someone like Jack, Miranda etc to get on board on the Normandy.

Agreed, a lot of potential wasted there.
Like predicted before the release, only the squadmates of ME3 were real romances.
Every other started romance was poorly handled and worthless. I met Miranda 4 times exactly, none of these encounters longer than 3 minutes, 2 of them just via hologram. I really expected BioWare to work the relationships properly into the game, had hopes until the end, but well... can't have it all, huh?

Yeah aside from the endings the way they handled most of the ME2 romances is one of my least favorite parts of the game. I wish your ME2 romance could have become a permanent squad member. I feel really bad for anyone who romanced Jacob.

What I want to know is...WTF was the point of showing us, via the Shadow Broker DLC, that Thane was a great candidate for transplants?? Just more of BioWare being sadists and spitting in our faces? To make it worse, there is no freaking mention of it! Thane swears in that email that he loves Shepard, and prayed to goddess whoever to give you strength (having to know that his presence gave you strength and hope in the last major mission) but he won't get off his ass and get the transplants, if for no other reason than his love for Shepard? Really??? It's ****** poor writing, IMO. They were more concerned with getting the coop going than they were about writing a story that made sense or took into consideration any of the choices your Shepard made.

I mean, honestly, how difficult would it have been to fix the damned Thane problem? Give his the transplants (we already know it would've worked) and stick him in a suit or a breather (you can't tell me Mordin couldn't have designed something to filter out any humidity when the Quarians walk around in suits that protect them from every bloody thing in the world!) and he'd have been fine. Make a "price" for it to satisfy the ones who don't think anyone should ever be saved from a deadly disease or only make this option available to those who chose the Thane romance. But no...Bioware just wanted to take a huge crap on any of us who chose the Thane romance (likely because they wanted to shove Kaidan's wimpy, whining, regulation-obsessed ass down our throats).

After Thane died, I had trouble continuing the game. His death, Mordin's death (sorry, I loved that Gilbert and Sullivan singing nutcase), Legion's death...Thessia being decimated...it's too much. My Shepard, at this point, doesn't give a rat's ass about "saving" the world. She just wants to kill Kai Leng, the Illusive Man and anyone who is left at Cerberus, and all the Reapers. If that means the whole world dies, so be it...there really isn't much left to fight for, as far as she's concerned.

In bigger terms, that means this game has zero replay draw at all.
