Why are the graphic textures so low?

Now, i'll be the first to say that i don't exactly have a powerhouse computer, but i do know that i have a "good computer".  For some reason, nearly all the textures in game are VERY VERY low-res.  An example is, during the part on earth in the beginning where the normandy rescues Shep and Anderson, the textures on the Normandy are so low that i can't even make out the words "normandy" on it.

Is there some way to force the textures to look better? or more options?  It seems the only options i can find in the MassEffectConfig has to do with AA and lighting.

I have a gigabyte of dedicated graphics- my laptop is a powerhouse graphics wise and quite honestly playing the third game straight after the second is like going back at least seven years. The textures in the first game are better- there is definitely something lacking with the textures. What we need is a high resolution texture pack to remedy it- my game runs as smoothly as it can but removing the jagged lines does little for nonexistent textures.

After messing with my graphics drivers settings the game went from "meh" to "look at all the pretty things". This is the first game i've played that seems to change accordingly with the driver settings.

I try not to mess around for those settings because I have other games that depend on those settings as well, and that's a last resort that I'm not going to touch until patches have been released because the game needs to be able to play well on its settings. I've found tweaking has the side effect of sometimes making a game unstable and I can't do that with a game that has preexisting technical issues. Our drivers aren't the problem, as long as they're up to date and we need patches and high resolution packs, I'm not tinkering the same way I would for a ten year old game for a game that's less than ten days old.
