I mean those troops where you can choose Mages, Dwarf, Dalish etc AI troops to help you.

I think Mages are wordiest they always shoot AOE spells dircertly on my group causing massive damage to my group. Maged also die easily and dont divert damage away from my group. Then come dalish elf problem is that they are ranged and that means my melee group take all hits from enemy becouse they stay back just shooting.

So Dwarfs and Humans are best as they are melee and they can divert damage off my group while they fight the enemy.

BEST: Dwarf and Arl Emon troops
BAD: Dalish elf archer
WORDIEST: Mages

I dont know what that one empty slot is but I guess its golems as I destroyed anvil I never get any troops in that one slot.

Wordiest?

I used the mages in the archdemon fight. They were very helpful, especially when the archdemon flew to the spot where you cannot reach him with anything other than ranged attacks.

I prefer Dalish Elfs when going for the 2 generals. All the melee reinforcements just keep running from one dead enemy to the next, thanks to my mage and archer(s). This renders them effectively useless whereas the Elfs add a significant amount of DPS.

I admit that they could be usefull there I used Dalish Elf in Archdemon fight.

But mages or Dalish arent that important as there are ballistas you can use with melee char while archdemon is not reachable with melee attacks.

Most of the time mages only cause me to reload saves a lot with their AOE spells.

Yeah they do little bit better DPS but also cause every enemy in the area only attack your melee companions as they are only chars in the front line.

Its quite devastating when 10+ enemy targets only for your 1-3 melee companions only and they die quite fast especially harder difficulties.

Best are Golems. Though in the area--I think it's the Palace District--where you need to make a long charge against archers, they're not very good. Amazing at the Ft. Dakon entrance, though, enough to make you think, "Yeah, that crazy dwarf lady was completely right."

Mages were good at defending the gate, I just stood back and let the fireworks fly.

I prefer elves and mages. They add really nice damage and if alistair's equipped with juggernaut armour then you can just keep the rest of the party away and let him take a few hits from the mages too...

I don't understand what has gone wrong. I used the Elevn Army at the Denerim Market and killed one general. When I go to the Alienage, all I find are 3 frightened elves. There is no "army pick" option, and in the battle after the Darkspawn have broken the gate, I have no help. What have i doen wrong?:crying:

The army pick option doesn't show up at the Alienage until you're nearly at the darkspawn-infested gate. You have to be well past the tree before it appears.

Hope this helps.

My take: and it always works for me. Market-----Redcliffe soldiers, Alienage---elves, Palace District---Dwarves, Inside Fort Drakon (before entering the tower proper----Dwarves or Redcliffe( whoever have the most left.) Roof---mages and ranged on my party with a bit of balista work.

Never had the pleasure of Golems, Templars or werewolves so I can't comment on these.

I haven't used any of the army's before the roof since that wasn't really necessary but on the roof I've tried mages, elves and dwarves, liking the dwarves the most, they kept the darkspawn busy while I killed the Archdemon

And when it was on the platform, I still had Morrigan and Lelliana to attack and my char using the ballista

I prefer Eamon's troops or Dwarves (+ Legion) when going after the generals, especially in the market square. For the roof I prefer mages for the reasons mentioned - I let them pound away on the archdemon alongside my archer and mage while Alistair and Oghren kept the darkspawn off.

The only two armies I've ever used with any real consistency are the Dwarves and the mages. Comparing a Redcliff soldier to a Legionnaire of the Dead is no contest. The Legion has better fighters, and they accompany me all the way to the rooftop, thats when the mages take over. The sheer volume of AoE keeps the darkspawn off my party and I long enough for me to bring the archdemon down without breaking a sweat.
