Maybe they had enough of the ME universe for working on it years on an end, and used the endings to kill off any possible future ME games. So, that they can finally start making Jade Empire 2 or a new IP?

Even if the whole goal was to end it so definitively that there can be no more ME, they could at least have made it satisfying, or sensible, or at least not given us three versions of the same thing.

EA is a business. If ME3 sells well enough, they may make ME4. If ME3 doesn't sell well enough, future ME games will be cancelled and EA will force Bioware to make something else.
