Don't worry, you'll like the game until the M Nite twist.
I am now afraid to finish my first playthrough

I would play the game until you get to Earth. Then stop.

Might as well just finish it. The money has been paid, the time spent, so you might as well see it through.

Finish it, close your eyes and mute your speakers. Problem solved.

"Commander, it's not working. It must be something on your end."
When Admiral Hackett says that line or something similar to it (can't remember the whole thing off the top of my head), that's when the awfulness starts. Just steel yourself for it, know that what's coming is going to be bad, and you should be able to get through it the way I did: by just laughing at how horrible it is.

Honestly, if you don't listen to the people on the boards... you will likely find the endings to be just fine.
I completed the game before reading any of these threads, and didn't mind the ending much at all. Probably could have been a bit more detailed, with a few more scenes of what happened, but overall, its not nearly as bad as people here are complaining about.
Did you play ME1 / ME2?
Did you talk to your team after every mission? At various hot points throughout the games? Did you romance a team member or two?
Maybe you are just apathetic to the conclusion, but I definitely want to know what the hell happened to my team, what happend to my LI, and why the Normandy was running away from the fight. If ME3 is the end of Shepard's story, so be it, but I didn't spend 100+ hours making my choices, getting to know / loving the characters that made my team, to have some ****ty "Star-kid" ending without closure. Epilogues are almost required for long stories... see: LoTR, The Matrix, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. Those are some of the most popular long-term stories presented.. and every single one of them has an epilogue. What happens if they didn't? How many people would get ridiculously pissed off if Star Wars ended after Vader threw Palpatine over the rail? Did the Death Star blow up? Who knows! Same thing now, did the Reapers die? Who knows! Not us, because there's too many plot holes and inconsistencies to believe that the ending that took place wasn't anything more than a dream or hallucination of a dying brain.
I'll say from my own experience that not knowing what other people thought did NOT help. I stayed away from anything that could possibly influence my views of the ending, and I was still extremely upset by what we were given. And if people bother to read why others are so upset, they'll see that this is way more than just a kneejerk reaction to not getting their unrealistic expectations.

consider the bioware forums a support group for having your hopes crushed by the ending.

Question: Is there any reason to get any more than the minimum when it comes to war assets? Because I'm thinking not, if so I'm just going to try to finish the game today and not bother with sidequests, whats the point if its all the same in the end anyway?

Finish the game, and we will be here to catch you when you are writhing in pain unable to speak. after some time and comforting , you will then scream and return to the world forever changed. Let's just hope Bioware comes to their senses and fixes the endings.
if you want your voice heard louder got to my blog which I have a link too in my Sig , click on my ME3 review and click on the links to my polls.
1. would you Boycott Bioware if they don't fix the endings
2. do you believe Multiplayer should have no impact on the single player campaign
3. Facebook Campaign demand better endings for ME3

I felt the same way. Was sitting on it not wanting to be crushed but went ahead and finished my first playthrough last night.
Some definitely are fine with the ending but the vast majority are not. Personally I'm not angry like others about it but a bit depressed. It was definitely unsatisfying especially after having invested so much in the series both time and emotionally.

OP, ignore the rage - this game is about the journey, not the cap off. You will enjoy it, same as you have the first two games
