I wanted to save both the Quarians and the Geth but the option to save both did not show up for me.
After killing the Geth or the Quarians which I didnt want to do, I've decided to do some research.
Apparently to create peace you have to make sure in ME2 that you destroy the Heretics and/or that Tali won't be exiled.
I don't get that. That pisses me off. What was Bioware thinking. I've always wanted the best for both Legion and Tali, two of my favourite crew members in ME2. Just because I took the decision to not destroy the Heretics and/or getting Tali exiled. I've even completed both their loyal quests and always cared them.
So now I get punished for that in ME3.
Thanks Bioware now I cant sleep for 10 days.
And I wont bother to replay it.

Actually, I didn't destroy the heretics--the official Guide was wrong. I did do the following.
Save the Admiral first, then do the Geth Fighter Squadrons.
In ME2: Use a Paragon Influence to broker peace between Legion and Tali when the two are in conflict.
Kept both Legion and Tali alive.
Played as a General Paragon throughout my ME1/ME2 career.
(I had about 90% of my bar filled by the time I got there though--you need to get above the 4th level).
