So there I was, minding my own business on playthrough two when I decided, "Hey, might as well get this Insanity achievement." Figuring I would only play every so often so I wouldn't get more upset with Mass Effect.
But I get to Mars and I realize that I am absolutely decimating everything with Pull, Charge, Nova, and my shotgun.
I check to make sure that I was on Insanity difficulty and I was.
Is it like this for every class? Or is the Vanguard just THAT OP?

Nova is. Vanguard is pretty powerful without it, but Nova is just over the top.

I'm just astounded. In ME2, Infiltrator was THE class for insanity. Are the other classes even viable compared to this?

I haven't even made the bump up one from normal yet. Was thinking about it for my second playthrough on the vanguard.

The sound when I can't do a charge for some reason (that little -ping-) is the sound that guarantees I am about to go splat. /grin

Also: I had a really rough time with "charge into a banshee, instant death move" near the end. The fight with the reaper pounding on you with two banshees backing its death beam attack was probably the hardest in the game for me.

Infiltrators were great in ME2 and they still are.

Same with Vanguards really. They were absolute beasts in ME2 as well if you knew what you were doing.

I won't take anything I see about power balance too seriously this early in the game. At this point in ME2, people were complaining about how much Vanguards sucked, which was proved wrong I don't know how many times. There will be a lot of theorycrafting going on here and people will try out different builds and weapons. I bet we will be seeing lots of interesting and powerful builds in the time to come. Nova spammers are probably the least interesting of them all if you ask me.

I have played around a bit, and I haven't had time to thoroughly test all classes a lot on insanity. Just the beginning stuff really. But in the first couple of missions, it is my honest opinion that adept was far superior to everything else. It probably gets different when things start getting more armor/shields/barriers. But early on I was killing 2-3 enemies every combo with ridiculously low cooldowns.

Dres: Yeah, that killed me way too many times. The insta-kill moves are the only things that ever did me in on normal. Been killed once via grenade so far on insanity. Other than that, things are awesome.

Infiltrators still seem like a great class for insanity, think about it. Tactical Cloak + N7 Crusader = Win

Having a pretty easy go of it on Insanity with my Vanguard. Believe it or not, I don't really use Nova. Pull and Charge ftw! And a level 10 Geth Shotgun doesn't hurt!

Played Insanity on my first play through in both 2 and 3, was impossible in the first game because of the hardcore lock crap, but I've played through all the games on Insanity first as an infiltrator and then a soldier.
The only hard time I've ever had was being a level 9 infiltrator on Liaras recruitment mission in the first game, seriously, that god damn Krogan with all his geth buddies at the end had me screaming at the tv, being forced to watch that long elevator scene every time.

Welp, Nova only make things easier. You can basically decimate anything with the right power and weapon; sometimes suqad member. Especially if you are doing NG+,

I still haven't tried Vanguard even though it looks awesome charging into people all the time.I've been a soldier all my life(in mass effect) and I don't know if I'll get use to it but I'll give it a go on normal in ME2.Beat insanity with soldier class stacked for weapon damage and got through it well..until I had to get the Reaper IFF <.<

Insanity with sentinel or adapt is also pretty ridiculous. Warp/ throw combo does a ton of damage especially when you spec warp into the increased damage from combos and other biotics along with speccing into double throw.

Personally, I felt that the sentinel is slightly better than the adapt because sentinels also get overload and cryo blast making the Sentinel pretty much good against any enemy and any defense.

Agreed.  The addition of Nova and the weapon weight mechanic just means that Vanguards lost their learning curve.  I hate to say it, but Charge has lost some of its wow-factor now that you can use it every ~2 seconds.

Adept with javik and liara is an absolute joke.
At least vanguard will get out of cover and have some real fun.

I actually got Charge down to ~0.8 seconds on my Vanguard. Less including the Nova cool down buff.

I don't even use my shotgun, it just makes it harder, lol.

Charge has a minimal cooldown of 3s. It's hardcoded in the game. Even if you manage to get it under 3s, it will still take 3s.

I've timed it, it's not 3 seconds.

It is 3s, cos there is a delay before the half-circles appear and begin to come together to form a circle. It's hard coded in the game man.

Just timed it again, from pressing the button to charge to being able to charge again, without Nova, is exactly 2 seconds.

So that's the animation for the charge and the cool down.

Hard fact, observed, recorded and tested.

I'm a noobish gamer who can't even complete a single mission in ME2 on NG+ insanity and I'm finding insanity way too easy as a level 60 Vanguard even without the Charge-Nova combination.

Level 10 Geth shotgun with Warp ammo, +25% dmg mod, +15% shotgun dmg passive and +10% damage N7 armor pieces = godlike weapon. My strategy is to use charge only to replenish my shields but I find that I seldom need to. Killed Kai Leng at the Cerberus base on my first try.

I have yet to beat a MP game on Silver (albeit with randoms). That's how bad I am. Insanity is way too easy.
