Just timed it again, from pressing the button to charge to being able to charge again, without Nova, is exactly 2 seconds.

So that's the animation for the charge and the cool down.

Hard fact, observed, recorded and tested.

How did you measure it?

I recoreded it with FRAPS, put it into VirtualDub and it takes exactly 3 seconds (I can see it frame by frame).

Effectively it is less than 3 seconds (i.e. you are invincible mid-Charge animation), because the cooldown starts when you are stll mid-Charge animation, but the cooldown is still exactly 3 seconds (the time it takes the two half circles to form a circle).

I'm a noobish gamer who can't even complete a single mission in ME2 on NG+ insanity and I'm finding insanity way too easy as a level 60 Vanguard even without the Charge-Nova combination.

Level 10 Geth shotgun with Warp ammo, +25% dmg mod, +15% shotgun dmg passive and +10% damage N7 armor pieces = godlike weapon. My strategy is to use charge only to replenish my shields but I find that I seldom need to. Killed Kai Leng at the Cerberus base on my first try.

I have yet to beat a MP game on Silver (albeit with randoms). That's how bad I am. Insanity is way too easy.

Well, Kai Leng's greatest nightmare is after all the Vanguard :P and the Kai Leng fight is the easiest fight for Vanguards.

Yes, ME3 is easy but it is not a Vanguard problem, enemies without protection is the cause of it. A Soldier with GPR that uses only adrenalinen rush to reload ammo can kill nealy anything before they can do much of anything. Adepts can basically "Range Nova" explosion all over the place. Tank build Sentinels, well, they can basically sprint and shotgun most of the encounters... rarely needs cover.

Shrug, I'm seeing what I'm seeing.

Total time between hitting the button to charge and charging again is 2 seconds for me.

Are you using some armor parts that give you +recharge speed bonus?

I put on the Krestal Set +40% Recharge, Liara I spec her to increase squad biaotic cooldown +10% recharge + passive upgrade for recharge.

Recorded with FRAPS and my recharge cooldown is actually 2 seconds as well.

I did my insanity run with a pure caster vanguard. It didn't seem right for some reason. The classes shouldn't overlap that much. It felt like an adept. That said...I'm going to do a charge vanguard next time around.

The enemies have far better AI and flexibility in ME3.  It would truly be insanity if they have the protection and damage from ME2. Still, I miss the days when I couldn't just shockwave the husks away. =]

Looks like armor is bugged then, because the game is not supposed to let you get Charge cooldown lower than 3 seconds. I bet armor parts affect the base cooldown value rather than the bonus part. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

I have yet to use any armor that gives +recharge speed, because I hate the looks (except for Inferno Armor which I used in combination with Barrier so bonus recharge speed was 0).

Yup.

My bonuses include the 25% bonus from the tree itself.
10% bonus from found data.
200% from light weight weapons.
10% from Liara.
30% from Inferno Armour.

Although I may be eating some humble pie here... My live testing is showing 3 seconds where my recorded testing was showing 2.

The math says 2.5 though - 9.52 * (1.0 / (1.0 + 25% + 250%))

(Ignore the ~0.7 seconds I mentioned earlier, I was thinking about the wrong power :-|)

If there IS a hard limit at 3s then some of my cooldown is redundant, hmm.

Meh, I'm charging just about constantly, so either way, it doesn't really matter.

EDIT: Of course, there is more margin for error in live testing, lol.

I just created a similar thread saying how even my engineer was having a fairly "easy" run on insanity. It was definitely harder in ME2 IMO.

Or maybe we're all just better at playing this game than ME2. I played the demo several times and all the MP play I think increases your game play skills as well.

Are u sure? I don't even use any power recharge armor, and my Charge time is under 3 with a 200% weapon load out, Liara's bonus, and 10% in terminal bonuses.

I refuse to use Nova, even so Insanity is a total joke for almost all classes. Combat, weapon balance, etc. BW was drunk or something when they made ME3.

What happened to their...normal is the new veteran spiel?

I think what kills it the most is the stupid weight/cooldown system. If they had just left it the way it was in ME2, things would have been fine. All they would have needed to do was smarten up the AI and tweak a few things here and there.

Besides the N7 armor, the Kestrel set is the best looking armor imo.  :P

The Inferno armor on the other hand is.. umm ... well it is not black so it does not look good :devil::devil:

Black for the win!

Yeah thats how I felt kept checking to see if it was insanity. Thought it was 10-15% harder than ME2.

ME2 was "harder" in that it just took longer, and you were not allowed to take risks, because you would die. I rather like ME3's insanity, the only time I die is if I do something really stupid.

Also I rather like what they did with the vanguard. In ME2 the entire vanguard setup was squad cryo ammo, inferno ammo, charge, shotgun things to death. Every fight was essentially that, except for the few where it was not possible (gunships, people on ledges, etc). In ME3, I actually feel like a biotic soldier. I'm a front line, biotic killing machine, instead of a shotgunning chargebot.

And I still don't get the love for the infiltrator in ME2. It was the easiest, and the least exciting for me. I loved the vanguard because I liked being able to be in people's faces, despite the difficulty basically saying that doing so is suicide. I also routinely cleared rooms MUCH faster as a vanguard than an infiltrator.
