Regular edition 12 dollars cheapers on Steam, Digitial Deluxe Edition 16 dollar cheaper. Regular edition slashed by 15 dollars on Amazon. Collector's Edition isn't any cheaper, despite the fact it doesn't have Warden's Keep.
I know Bioware doesn't control how retailers price their games, but it's surprising to see a major title's price drop so quickly. From a consumer's point of view, this is extremely frustrating. I will sometimes wait several months for price to come down before buying a game, but for a title I'm looking forward to a lot I'm a Day One guy.
Is there any explanation for this? At first I thought it might be a Christmas sale, but I compared with other recent releases there were a few cuts (Modern Warfare 2 is 3 dollars cheaper) nothing is as drastic.
Hate to ask this, but why is the game much cheaper now then 3 weeks ago?

While DA:O is popular, MW 2 is off the charts and incomparable in sales.
Almost any game that isnt a blockbuster is going to drop price online by 25% after the first month. Consoles are different, you will have to wait a lot longer to see the price drop.

I really don't understand this price cut either. Overstock on collector's edition maybe? That wouldn't explain a price drop on something that's digitally distributed though.

forgot about this earlier, but i would imagine that it is a marketing ploy as well.
1. Sell the game for cheaper
2. Make many DLCs over the next 6-8 months
3. make boat loads of cash directly from DLC when you do not have to pay retailers or middle men
4. do the happy dance

I compared a couple other games, too, Batman (which from Amazon was about where I thought it'd be, but was really cheap on Steam), New Super Mario Brothers (which barely declined in price at all). And lest anyone blame EA, EA Sports standardbearer Madden 10 is about 12 dollars cheaper from August.
I admit this is hardly a scientific sampling, and it's mainly my 'gamer's gut' I have to go on, but I can't help but feel that this is a shocking price decline, and that the Collector's Edition seems really overpriced now, especially without Warden's Keep.

Thanksgiving yesterday, day after thanksgiving is known in the states as black friday. It's the first day of holiday/christmas shopping. Lots of stores offer sales in order to get customers inside. Online (US) stores have to follow, or everyone buys their games at brick-and-mortar. Personally, having been able to play DA:O these past couple of weeks was well worth the extra 10 to 20 I paid.

It had occurred to me that it was a Black Friday thing, but it seemed unusual that DAO's price dropped much more then anything else. (I also thought of Black Friday as a brick-and-mortar store thing, but clearly I'm behind the times, and it makes perfect sense digital outlets need to cut prices to be competitive.) Maybe I'll feel less bad if on Monday the price goes back up, lol.
And DAO was worth the price I paid for it (it's my Game of the Year!) it's hard not to feel a little frustrated by this.

My husband is the manager at GameStop...the prices change with demand...since everyone who wanted the game when it first game out, has already gotten it, the demand for it right now is not as high and it drops in price. When the Christmas season comes, and the game will be in higher demand, it will go up. I think it is dumb as well, but I guess that is how capitalism works. I do the price changes at GameStop in the morning...and even I find it mind blowing to see how a game that was 69.99 last week is now 49.99 this week, and visa versa. *Sigh* I've even done price changes on the same game several weeks in a row having it go up and down up and down.

On Steam it has the lowest discount, only 25%, other games are 50% and 75% off.

It's the holiday season....Sell more for less money....Same reason most stores are having sales....
