[PROBLEM] Empty Palette Window

Ok so, I've correctly installed the Toolset and the database. Toolset can connect to the database and edit savegames so all seems to work fine BUT the resources explorer.
Palette window (the panel on the right that should contain items, merchants, areas, ect...) is totally empty, blank, unfilled. I can't understand why... with SQL Sever Management Studiio I can connect and all the tables seem to be in the right place.

I've also tried to use the restore batch file and the process seems to be successfull achieved without errors but without fixing the problem. It correctly indexed down something like 10500 entries.

The only thing I noticed, in Toolset log file, is that there is an error that doesn't stop to be spammed and it could be related to my problem:

  • Fri Nov 27 05:42:01 2009, ERROR, "d:\\DASecuROMBuild\\main\\dev\\tools\\sdk\\include\\toolsoledb.h", 226, "The conversion of a CHAR data type to a DATETIME data type resulted in an out-of-range DATETIME value."

  • Fri Nov 27 05:42:01 2009, ERROR, ".\\dbresref.cpp", 881, "CDBResRef::GetResourceListByType caught an exception: Bad HRESULT: 80040e07"
I'm using SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 running on Windows XP Professional SP3 (fully patched).
It has TCP/IP, shared memory and named pipes enabled; it's settet up to run in Local System (I cannot switch it to Network Service).

The Toolset is configurated in the following way:
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;
Integrated Security=SSPI;
Persist Security Info=False;
User ID=clientID;
Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;
Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS

Can someone help me, please?

This error seems to be related to t_ResourceTable. There are two DATETIME value columns in that table that are loaded at the beginning: CreatedOn and LastModifiedOn.

The format of those values is something like: "28/09/2009 16.29.25" (day, month, year). So it could be due to the fact that the Toolset is trying to parse them like they were english format dates with month, day and yea obtaining uncorrect data.

I've tried to change the default accounts login language to English but palette is still empty. I've tried to set the database language to US_ENGLISH but palette is still empty. I've tried restore the database after changing its language settings but palette is still empty.

What else? Maybe collation settings?

Is there an official but reporting email for Toolset?

Did you tried to change your system/database language settings?

Did you reported it somewhere? I cannot find a place to report Toolset bugs, damn it's incredible!

My ddbb has "SQL_Latin_1_General_CP1_CI_AS" language.

My system is in Spanish but configured in English for non unicode programs.

Also I don't know where to report this problem :S.

Edswor, try to send a help question here:

http://help.dragonage.com/

It's the only thing that looks similar to a bug reporting interface even if Toolset is not even listen in options. But at least someone will read this and will understand that it's not an uncommon error.

I recall that we had a problem with incompatible date formats with a German beta tester, I'm told he managed to work around the problem by changing some locale settings in his OS from the control panel. Unfortunately neither I nor my officemate recall exactly what he did, and a quick search of our email doesn't reveal any details of the solution - though it confirms that "BAD HRESULT: 80040e07" is indeed a symptom of this problem.

Unfortunately MSSQL isn't our program, so when it gets into territory like this we are often reduced to just searching Microsoft's knowledge base and hoping to stumble upon an answer. I'll ask around again tomorrow morning when more people are back in the office and see if anyone has already dug it up.

Thank you very much for your support! ^^

I'll look into MS KB also, meanwhile!

I have found a solution for this problem! It seems that the toolset doesn't specify the expected locale after connecting to the database, so it's assumed to be the default locale of the connecting user (which usually defaults to the Windows locale).

To change the default locale for a connecting user:

  • Open the SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Connect it to your SQL Server.
  • Open the "Security" tree node and then a node called something like "connections" or "logins".
  • There your current username should be listed (amonst others). It is shown in the form \\\\.
  • Right-click you user and select "Properties".
  • In the dialog at the right bottom there should be the field "default language". Set this to "English".
  • Press "OK" and close the SQL Management tool.
  • Start the Toolset and you palette should now be filled.
This worked for me (German locale) and I hope it also solved the problem for others.

Also you can use the property 'Current Language' in the connection string and set it to the value 'english':

Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\BWDATOOLSET;Current Language=english

You can change the connection string using the ConfigureToolset.exe program.
