So...did everyone on the Citadel die by the finale?

I mean, considering the complete lack of buildup, warning, or even display of the Citadel being taken by the Reapers, it just leaves so many questions:

1) If the Reapers could just waltz right in and take the Citadel, why didn't they do that BEFORE?! It's an obvious military, strategic, diplomatic, and morale asset, and yet they never attacked it at all. What gives?

2) If the Reapers just took the Citadel, then does that mean everyone on the Citadel is dead now? Or did the Reapers just focus on the "control center" to move it to Earth, and then ignore the rest (while defending the control center)? EDIT: I mean BEFORE the endings. Some of the endings leave the Citadel completely intact; I'm asking about before the allied fleet even attacks Earth.

3) How did they MOVE the Citadel from the Widow Nebula to Earth so quickly, or at all? I mean it's a HUGE space station (47 kilomters in length, right?) with no visible engines (and even then, there'd hardly be room for engines powerful enough to propel something so massive). Also, how would a single mass relay be capable of working on the Citadel?

1) Because the writers said so.

2) The citadel explodes at the end of ME3, so yeah they're all dead on way or another.

3) Space magic!

Probably. If they weren't killed when the reapers took the station, they died when it exploded at the end. I think someone on twitter tried to hedge by saying "some" people managed to evacuate.

As for the questions of why they didn't take it immediately, and how they moved it... yeah you're not going to get a satisfying answer to either of those questions either.

I would say they're probably all dead before you ever get on the Citadel.

It's explained that TIM told the Reapers about the Crucible. Likely if he hadn't told them they wouldn't have bothered with the Citadel right away since they were already overunning the galaxy by that time.

It's only when they realize Shepard is going to use the Citadel to attack them that they snatch it.

I would have liked to have seen more of the citadel, watch the reapers transform it into a processing center or something.

One question I have about the citidel was that if the reapers control the citidel and the citidel controls the mass relays as we have been told in previous games. why did they leave the relay network functional? They could have just shut off the relays and our fleet would not have had a quick and easy route to earth. Another instance of space magic I guess. Or omnipotent super beings who forgot to lock the backdoor...oops

Space god works in mysterious ways.

I was pretty disappointed that the Citadel militia didn't show up though.
