So like most ME players, I decided to import my ME2 save into ME3 and continued to play my soldier class. After watching various walkthroughs of both the 2nd Mission (Mars Mission) and the 3rd Mission (Exploring the Citadel), I found two stange things happening.
1) In start of the mars mission, I had already recivied my M-23 Katana instead of grabbing it from the dead Cerberus soldier later in the game
2) When entering the Citadel's Huerta Hospital, I went to the Sirta Foundation's Kiosk and was only able to purchase the MediGel upgrade and Kaidan Alenko's whiskey. (This was the first time I visted the Kiosk and was unable to purchase the other gifts such as the flowers, the books and the chocolates.
So I wanted to know if these are perhaps bugs in the game? or is there another explanation

I think I found the reasons for these supposed bugs
1) You only find the M-23 Katana from the dead Cerberus soldier if you are playing a class that doesn't start with a Shotgun. I bought the Collector's Edition of ME3, which gives me the N7 Weapon Pack, and also my class was a Soldier.
2) You can only buy the MediGel upgrade and the Ashley/Kaidan's gift, if the Virmire survivor is the same sex as your Shepard. If your survivor is the opposite sex and is a potential love interest, you can purchase other gifts such as the flowers, the books and the chocolates.
I am not really sure if I am completely right about this. It would be helpful if someone can confirm this.

Well, I'm not sure about the shotgun bug, but as for the second one, I can confirm that it has nothing to do with being the same sex, as I am currently playing my Femshep Infiltrator, and I had the option to buy flowers and whatnot even though Ashley is also a girl, and as far as I know, not available as a love interest for female Shepards. I bought all of the books, the flowers and the chocolates because I thought there was some point to them. I ended up giving Ash a book, so I am thinking I wasted money on the flowers and the rest... I thought I could give them to my LI for this game similar to gifts in Dragon Age, but they were never mentioned after I paid for them.
Perhaps the flowers and all of that aren't available in your case just because Kaidan is your survivor I gather. Flowers and candy don't seem like the sort of thing you'd give a guy, generally speaking.
