I'm entering the forums quickly to ask you all...

What's the best Assault Rifle to use? I heard something about this Falcon weapon but you get it near the end of the game.

I'm not there yet. I've been using the vindicator with incendiary rounds but... I'm curious. Are there other better assault rifles? I mean, jeez... the upgrade costs are ridiculous but... what would you recommend? The Valkyrie?

Honestly, I don't find the upgrade costs to be too bad. Just take it to level 4 or something.

There are so many good Assault Rifles in the game.

1. Mattock very good all around, light weight and very accurate. Nice with a Scope.

2. Valkrie very nice if your power regen can handle it. All around probably the best if weight is not too much of an issue.

3. Chakram Launcer if you want to snipe and line up charged shots. Works very well with Cryo Ammo.

4. Particle Rifle Looks pretty cool and has ammo that regens. Nice with explosive incindinary rounds. I found this rifle works very well with Stasis. Stop the foe in their tracks and then charge up the green beam.

5. Vindicator If you want to spam as many powers as possible. Decent rifle up close and far away. I would mod it so it does not have as much kickback.

I played an Adept, and for almost the entire game I ran with a Phaeston assault rifle and an N7 Hurricane SMG (yay Collector's Edition; the Phaeston, of course, I found on Tuchanka). I tried out a bunch of the other assault rifles, but I ended up liking the Phaeston the best, and here's why. First, while it doesn't do a ton of damage, it has a giant magazine and if you take Armor Piercing Ammo as your bonus power it r-r-rapes. It has a pretty low weight, especially if you upgrade it, and even with my SMG I had a +194% power recharge rating. It's also very accurate, especially with the stability mod. So what it boiled down to was: low weight (faster power use), good damage (once upgraded a few times, and especially with AP Ammo and the extended barrel mod), huge magazine, very accurate. Also, it looks TANK, mostly because it has a very unique design. Phaeston assault rifle: I highly recommend it.

I have not used Phaeston yet but now I am very curious. I thought most people liked Valkire?

Best rifle depends on your class. As an Infiltrator with Widow the Vindicator is all the weapon you'll need for a backup. Plenty of ammo and decent damage, lightest out of all the rifles too for speedy power recharge.

I keep wanting to use the Argus on my soldier, but it's just so damn heavy and inaccurate. Bioware should seriously fix that thing.

It was toned down compared to it's ME2 incarnation which was OP'd as all hell. But I agree, it is argueably the most effective bullet to bullet with the addition of being super accurate.

Phaeston for the most part. But if I'm facing Brutes and Banshees, the Particle Rifle is my weapon of choice.

I have two standard loadouts, focused on minimizing my cooldown time as a Soldier:

1- The Avenger V w/ the Turian Sniper Rifle.

The Avenger's weight and rate of fire makes it a good choice. It's a good automatic weapon, and is very light. The Phaeton is arguably a better automatic weapon, but its weight makes it prohibitive.

The turian Sniper Rifle, however, is basically like a Better Mattock. Operates the same way, but with a better scope and slightly better stats, which makes it an awesome soldier weapon (the other sniper rifles are better in general, but this one is great for a soldier, due to Adrenaline Rush).

2- Revenant and scoped Phalanx.

The Revenant, with a stability upgrade, is a monstruous weapon at medium to short range, with excellent stagger characteristics and damage.

The scoped Phalanx is just there to offer ranged firepower at a light weight, and it achieves that very nicely, I think.

My ultimate loadout, however, will hopefully be the Saber as main weapon, with a lightened SMG to provide automatic fire.

Mind you, I don't have all assault rifles yet.

I just stick with Avenger.

Honestly, up until the final fight, it did awesome. But, for some reason, it suddenly began taking 2-3 clips to take out cannibals (as if they'd been feeding on one another prior to me ever fighting them).

M99 Saber is pretty ridiculous, but you get it late in the game.

Where is the valkyrie? I loved the mattock in ME2, but I found that it wasn't as effective (or my aim just got a whole lot worse) in ME3. Oddly enough, the Phaeston and the vindicator are the two I ended up using the most. The phaeston is like a revenant but with far less weight, and ridiculous accuracy. So.. what's not to like about the phaeston?!

yeah I keep switching around. I actually have upgraded Mattock, Chakram, Particle Rifle, Valkrie Rifle and now I think I gotta do The Phaeston.

I tried the Phaeston as soon as I picked it up....loved the magazine size and accuracy, hated the damage.

<3 the Vindicator. It was my favorite as a Soldier in ME2, and while I hate the amount of muzzle climb it has in ME3 (awful when not fired from cover) it is VERY light weight and accurate from range.

Tempted to try the Mattock. Tried it in one multiplayer game and kind of liked it, but it is heavier than the Vindicator. I really loved the accuracy, and didn't mind that it was non-auto.
