On Insanity my soldier had good luck with a Mattock V. The only times it felt weak were when there were multiple / several heavy Reaper units on the field at once. The other 99% of the game it worked like a champ.

Note: I almost only fire during AR and I found the damage boost, reload times, etc. seemed to sync pretty well with this weapon.

 N7 Valkryie or Argus. If you don't have either of those, then the Mattock.

Mattock definitely, and as has been mentioned - use the Scope upgrade on it - you almost have a sniper rifle. Thus, I used the Mattock and a pistol (in case I ran out of Mattock ammo) and the game rocked on my second playthrough.

Valkyrie or Argus with Damage and Stability Upgrades is very very useful.

If I had to pick one though, it'd be the Valkyrie.

I used the Avenger the entire time, but that was on normal difficulty. I don't know how it would hold up on insanity, and if I give that level a go I'll probably go with the Mattock. It served me well in ME2.

Revenant. Hands down... Revenant + Disruptor ammo killed Kai Leng with no retries in less than 5 minutes in Insanity.

I used the Mattock a lot in ME2, but the Vindicator with kickback and accuracy mods in ME3 was the best for me.

As an Infiltrator, carrying around a Widow or Black Widow (and lots of headshots).

i was wondering, i plan on using Assault rifle+SMG combo on my Vanguard when i get her into ME3, what weapons would work best for a VANGUARD other than a Shotgun (plan on going with Assault rifle to pick targets at a distance and SMG for post-charge gun-work)

It's pretty nice how reload time of these assault rifles no longer factors into DPS calculations for soldier class. Spam AR, never reload.

Mattock. Nothing says DIE like this one. Tried Revenant but Mattock kills much faster and is deadly accurate.

Clip and damage upgrades. It doesnt need stabilization and scopes because it fires when you click and you can click lot faster then other rifles fire with full-auto.

I stuck with the Particle Rifle for the majority of the time. Its brutally heavy, meaning that I had to sink virtually every credit I had into upgrading it ASAP, but imo its accuracy and DPS are second to none. I just kept adding progressively better clip and penetration upgrades onto it and by the end, I was melting Marauders in short order.

The only issue I had is that its a little awkward at very short range, but the Eagle sorted that issue out (ME1 Marksman Pistol FTW).

The Phaeston was originally going to be my choice but I was less than impressed with its damage.

Along with a Fully upgraded viper, I was able to get away with -16% cooldown reduction - really not that much of issue on a shooty adept with plenty of cooldown reduction gear.

Just wish I could have carried my Scimitar too. Try as I might, there was no way I could balance both that and an acceptable cooldown rate. Still haven't received the Disciple, though.

Valkyrie until you can get the saber (3rd to last mission in the game). They blow the mattock out of the water in terms of power and accuracy. The mattock was great in me2 not because of the damage , which was ok, but because the rate of fire was set so inhumanly high that even with AR up it would take binding the fire key to your mouse wheel to actually come close to hitting it.

The m-99 saber is like throwing a giant robot body on nixon. I dare you to say no to that...

Valkyrie is fantastic. Otherwise i would go Mattock or Revanant.

Not keen on the Particle rifle, cant put my finger on why though.

It definitely has a different feel to it - functionally its like a Geth Pulse Rifle with a much faster rate of fire - no recoil, (literally) laser accurate, blistering DPS, but tempered by the fact that you have to be quite disciplined in how long you keep the beam up otherwise its just a liability.

I second the Saber, if you think Mattock's good, the Saber would make you think you're in heaven. Such a pity you get it so so late. Might be great on a second playthrough though.

I personally love the M-37 Falcon.
Airburst grenades are so full of win and is perfect for taking out foes behind any kind of cover.

This, so this...

I run a soldier with squad cryo and usually take vega or ashley along for thier assault rifle.  Both of us use the falcon, and as long as your mindfull of where to direct thier fire you'll be staggering and freezing most of your enemies.  It's stupid good even on Insanity.

Saber is a good gun as well, you can run the falcons on your team and then just use the M-99 to pound the crap out of frozen targets.
