Revenant for sure Saber is also nice, I personally focus on the Rev for my self so I can tear through anything with it, and then use the saber for my companions since they basically have auto hit

I have a similiar set up on multiplayer Rev on mt battlefield soldier and saber on my reg soldier.

I think it partly depends on the intended purpose of the armament. Personally, I loved the Mattock in ME2 for its hard-hitting semi auto nature (and just plain looking and sounding cool), but power was not up to par in ME3. The Valkyrie fills that gap with the short accurate burst. Vindicator is too ugly to me, but served its purpose as the burst-fire rifle of ME2.

The Saber is nice, but definitely a little too late-game and is basically a semi-auto sniper with its rate of fire. Pity it wasn't a sniper rifle, or I would've been able to use a different assault rifle alongside it, while gaining the time dilation passive while aiming down the scope as infiltrator.

However, for suppressive fire, the Geth pulse rifle and Phaeston are decent at accuracy, but nothing really compares to the Revenant damage output and thermal clip capacity. It may be really inaccurate, but each bullet does plenty of damage. It's just only suitable for closer engagements. To me, that fits the intended function better, since firing full auto accurately is a waste of time if you can do just as much damage with fewer bullets.

I dunno, I think I've gotten too used to the accuracy of stuff like the Particle Rifle and the Phaeston. The PR particularly - its pretty awesome being able to just point and slice anyone you want from clear across the battlefield. The phaeston is nice purely by virtue of being a full-auto rifle that doesn't require stability upgrades just to keep control.

I play as a Sentinel. My first playthrough I just upgraded the Avenger because I liked the weight. This time through-especially since I can take them up to lvl 10--I'll play around with the Vindicator this time.

i used plenty of assault rifles but still settled on Mattock. not as good as in me2, still the best option when you need to deal high burst in AR window on basically any distance. Very precise, fast enough and good damage. Saber would be good but is too slow for me. Every other rifle is either not as good at long range or doesnt have the punch. GPR with inferno splash abuse seems to be a lot of fun tho but havent tried it yet, just watched on utube.

As a soldier I used the valkyrie until I got the Phaeston and used it until I got the revnant. For my enginer and adept I used the vindicator since it has good weight for its damage. I also used the vindicator for my vanguard.

A bit OT, but can I get them past level V in SP?

I have done 3 playthroughts with the same character and upgraded all assault rifles
I really like most of them
Hell I wish I could have all them at the same time like in ME1 with my super hammerspace inventory :DD
They are all good one way or another

You can, in New Game+...

So if you unlock it in NG+, next time you go to a normal game do you have the level 6-10 upgrades available?

So far I went with the Mattock for my infiltrator. It accompanied my N7 Sniper rifle very nicely. As an adept, I'm currently using the vindicator.

Chalk up another one for the Phaeston. On a soldier, it eats basically everything. I prefer the piercing + barrel mods to maximize possible damage. Slap explosive incendiary on and during one AR, I can kill about 2 brutes on insanity. Keep in mind, this was on my first playthrough ever, so it was at level 5, and it still could chew through armor like there was no tomorrow.

Most AR's are too heavy. I think Bioware confused assault rifle with machine gun as far as weights go.

To be honest the only ARs I found to be overweight were the Valkyrie and the Argus - they're basically just glorified vindicators, there's absolutely no reason they need to be that heavy.

The other heavy assault rifles - the Particle Rifle and the Revenant - are well worth their weight by virtue of their firepower, while the Vindicator, Phaeston and Avenger are useful lightweight solutions for those who want basic assault rifles.

Nah, the assault rifles, as a class, are fine. To be honest all the weapon classes are fine in terms of weight, with the heavy ones paying their way via sheer firepower. The only class that is an exception are shotguns - they're all stupidly heavy for what they are, barring the disciple.

Particle rifle is also probably the best assault rifle you can give to squadmates so if you care about upgrading their weapons, it would be something to consider.

As a Soldier I ran with the Valkyrie until I got the Revenant. In ME2 I was Mattock until I got Revenant. I personally feel more bad ass with the Revenant, the the Valkyrie is the all around choice for me. A rifle with style, a bit of accuracy and can pack a punch.

I'm entering the forums quickly to ask you all...

What's the best Assault Rifle to use? I heard something about this Falcon weapon but you get it near the end of the game.

I'm not there yet. I've been using the vindicator with incendiary rounds but... I'm curious. Are there other better assault rifles? I mean, jeez... the upgrade costs are ridiculous but... what would you recommend? The Valkyrie?

if you have the DLC, the prothean beam rifle is the best rifle in the game
