This is so simple I can't believe it wasn't added.

-If the Reapers are, in fact, "Preserving" all organic life - and see themselves as some sort of savior, the writers missed a tremendous opportunity to give that some emotional impact: have a Reaper (or some sort of representative) pull out previously "Reaped" individuals (in digital or projected form) to plead for the necessity of the Reapers actions.

This would've created a great moment of conflict for the player - as it would provide at least some shred of evidence that the Reapers believe themselves to be beneficial to the galaxy.  As it stands, the whole "Oh, We're Helping" message is undercut by the GIANT LASERS that are incinerating helpless victims left and right.
