The bottom line is that Mass Effect has always been about effort put in, equals better ending outcome. You can argue all you want about the 17 endings ME3 has, but if we put a monumental effort into a gaming franchise (ME, ME2, ME3) then we the player should (in line with prior installments) be able to have a satisfactory conclusion that provides the narrative we want or need.

Secondly, Mass Effect has become more about the characters than the story. Many people fell in love with their LI's throughout the series, many people found friends with their crew maters. Heck, when you look at ME2, there isn't a plot other than "stop the collectors" and the ENTIRE game focuses on the dirty dozen you're assembling! Now the resolution of ME3 hits and where we (rightfully expect) a difficult to achieve ending where our Shep can be reunited with friends and family, instead we suffer the disappointment of a story not concluded.

It brings tears to my eyes, how can Bioware do something like this after i saw Genophage arc, Quarian/ Geth war and etc...
I mean dialogue between Mordin and Shepard (before Mordin goes in the tower) is oscar worthy aswell as Thane's death scene. Then when we come to The Catalyst and realize why every decision and love for ME is ruined right at that moment.

+1000:crying:
All 3 endings for ME3 have reminded me the ending for Evangelion and that's the worst way possible that you can end the game like this. We spend a lot of time to get through this and for what? To see how Shepard dies in three various ways for the sake of the galaxy? It is unfair!

Whether he agrees/disagrees, the fact that our cries for a better ending are not going unnoticed is satisfying.

YES!!!!! We need to keep ranting, louder and louder if possible. We need Bioware to seriously feel they are risking looking really bad in the press and hurting game sales to hose who arent us hardcore fans who already own the game if they don't listen

Maybe they're pulling a New Coke move?

New Coke was the reformulation of Coca-Cola introduced in 1985 by The Coca-Cola Company to replace the original formula of its flagship soft drink, Coca-Cola (also called Coke).

The American public's reaction to the change was negative and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula,
re-branded as "Coca-Cola classic", resulted in a significant gain in
sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke
formula was just a marketing ploy.[1]

Hey all I've come across what I think is a good idea and wanted to let you all know about it.   Go to the thread here!

I am organizing on reddit as well, but if you would like to be a part of it, PM on here so I can provide and email to you.

I want to create a video using fan reactions to the ending of the story. I dont want people losing their minds, however I would like to the genuine sentiments fans have. I plan on combining all the clips into a video to try and circulate - it is one thing to read an opinion, another to see it on the face of the person telling it.

As a format this is what I was thinking...Introduce yourself as Commander X Shepard (X being your Shep's name), Talk about what you have done - saved virmire, survived akuze, became the first human spectre, etc. Talk about how Mass Effect is important to you, why it is, and what you felt after it ended. Finish the video with your own message to bioware. If all goes well, we should have a truly unique and touching medium for which our thoughts can be conveyed.

PM me so I can provide my email to you, so you can send your video.

REMEMBER - Be sincere, this series meant so much to us, more than I thought it would, let this show!

You can contact him there or by his BSN profile here. If it's something that interested you or you decide to contribute let me know and post in your status update to spread the word.

I still believe that they're leaving the endings like that as an excuse to get you to buy DLC that expands on it.

Lol silly Kotaku:

#1 Defending bad ending writing and plotholes.

#2 Thinking that Bioware is stupid: ofc they won't release an "ending fix DLC", they would wrap it with new missions and stuff

#3 As BW always stated, the fanbase is their main source of (mostly) positive criticism, bug report and hints on their games. Don't you dare (Kotaku) to deny us the right to state our disappointment because the Mass Effect franchise wouldn't have lived long without our support. Lots of us (me included) think that ME3 is a wonderful product, the only (big) letdown are the rushed endings for all the motivations we've stated in these boards.

"It's not about the ending, it's about the journey" some said. Nothing more wrong than this imo. It's about the journey AND the ending, due to the nature of this product, a series FINALE.

Exactly.

These are my 2 cents on this argument. Sorry for eventual bad engrish, for it's not my native language.

I agree with making the ending more logical... The whole thing made almost no sense. I would also like choice to matter, the whole thing about synthetics killing off organics was clearly contradicted since I saved the geth, and the quarains. I'm not demanding new DLC I'm asking :DDDD. I am willing to pay for it however. I did like the tragic Shepard die thing, though I would like to have an option (if you put in the time and resources) to have Shepard live, but hey I'm willing to take what I can get...

You know at first I thought the majority of the people talking about the endings were just complaining...boy was I wrong...

Luckily, I had looked up a few details about the ending because of the large amount of people disagreeing with it. It wasn't ideal, but I was going to see how it all played out.

I loved Mass Effect 3, I absolutely loved it. It was fantastic, definitely the best video game I have ever played. I just beat it two days ago and I've already started another play through. I just don't know if I can bring myself to beat it to suffer the ending that many times.

Don't get me wrong, I think they're...decent...they shouldn't be scrapped, but...for someone who to took the time to do every side mission more than once, invested countless hours to make sure that Commander Shepard would be able to save the galaxy, I honestly feel jipped. I'm not demanding anything outstanding. I don't have outrageous expectations. I think there should be at least one scenario where Commander Shepard survives. I know there are a lot of other players out there that wanted their Shepards to survive too...

Here's an idea?
Maybe have a "Ultimate Fan Pack" where you release "classic" outfits for squad mates, some armor and weapons for Shepard (Spectre Master gear?), and the ending where Shepard survives (and Joker does not act like a complete retard to get the Normandy stranded).
Don't know how good of an idea it is, but it's a thought. :)

All this talk about "It was just a dream/Indoctrination" That it was done to subvert the leaks and the real endings will be coming with DLC (free or otherwise) has me wondering. Maybe just maybe....I mean Bioware marketing has been pretty bad of late. Could this just be the ultimate culmination of that trend?

-Nope. IT would be the ultimate in stupidity Marketingwise. "The game you have been playing was a dream. Now go fight the real enemy, sentient waffle irons".

Frankly dont give a ****e. He is providing a forum and attention. Thats all thats needed of him.

Kotaku isn't part of the serious press. It's a swearing troll site. Look at the Steam forums, there are many people pleading Valve to stop linking articles from this crap site.

Seriously...?
If you don't like the ending to a book, will you guys start a petition to have it changed as well...? I really don't get this. (Yes, I still have to get the game, so I haven't actually seen the endings yet, but still.)

There is a difference between accepting a bad ending of a game that has full ending closure and ties up the trilogy properly to: Herp derp space magic, three choices making past games irrelevant, here is a epilogue that makes no sense, fade to black.

No future, no closure with close characters, nothing.

This isn't a bad ending to the game, this isn't even a PROPER ENDING.  This is something that was put in place to give the game an end, not give a trilogy a proper, complete sendoff on a sad/happy/bleak/bright note.

Even if the article writers are very critical and patronising they are giving the concerns mainstream attention. The sweeping generalisation of anybody who doesn't like the ending as a rabid fanboy screaming to have their will done is very unfortunate - I really didn't like the ending of ME3, it pretty much ruined the game for me but at no point have I been angry, just disappointed.

At no point have I (or most fans from what I've seen) "demanded" bioware change the ending, just suggested that doing so would improve the story hugely, make the fans a lot happier and frankly make the fans much more willing to purchase future bioware products.

Fact is we aren't in a position to demand anything from BW, nor do we want to. But as fans of a company that is supposed to look out for feedback, we are making use of this to get the ending that Mass Effect and its fans deserve. It has not received that with ME3 and we want to let the developers know as even though this ending MIGHT have been their envisioning, they put the product out there for players to enjoy. If players aren't enjoying it, they need to know.

Of course there is no future it's the end. Kaput.Finished. What people wanted was some cliche ending where they get to marry their LI and kiss because to many people Mass Effect is just a dating sim.

They went for something really unexpected and i imagine many players got it into their head that they would be able to save the galaxy and get a medal and marry their LI and have babies.

This whole "change the endings" nonsense is getting pointless. They won't change the ending if anything happens they'll make a DLC that gives things a different end game but then people will rage that they are being charged for that. Bioware won't be able to please anyone in this case it's only going to get worse.

Funny i've only seen this level of fanboy rage in Japan so far i guess it spread to the rest of the world. I imagine next there will be vandalism of Bioware's offices and death threats to the writers just like what happned in Japan. Because people have lost sense of any sort of reality now and they think by moaning on a forum they'll actually change an ending to a game. And the user above made a valid point which you glossed over. What next? Are there going to be pertitions to change endings of other games? Books? Movies? People need to stop thinking they are an all powerful God behind a computer screen.
