'Change the Endings' Campaign Getting Mainstream Attention!

As I see it, this comes down to expectations and maybe poor communcation by Bioware staff and officials. To comment on the poor communication first, it seems clear, no it now seems abundantly clear to me that Bioware did not do a very good job in communicating how the endings are in the game.
The threads I have read (both here and in the spoiler forums) clearly suggest that Bioware should have said something along the line of this :"the endings are all open ended. There is a story reason for this we'll not reveal at this time." And this maybe as well: "Mass Effect and the games have been about Shepards story, it is possible that Shepard's story is now over." Or this maybe: "The open endings in Mass Effect 3 are there because we, as writers, wanted to have the universe/galaxy in a state of flux. As such, the endings may not be for everyone."
These are just my suggestions, of course. Bioware could probably come up with better responses regarding the endings in ME3 - and by that I mean: communicate this before the game was out.
This way, and now we come to the expectations from people, people would have been let down, or felt Bioware had let them down, when they experienced the endings: Nearly everyone who complains about the ending has a sort of a happy ending in mind or an ending where all celebrates, dances and eat cake.
Then there are some who agree that the game's endings might not be good nor bad, but can accept a bad, bitter or bleak ending, but find that the game's ending don't make sense - at all. For various reasons.
On top of that let me ask you this:
Do you also write to say a movie director like Woody Allen to get him to explain why he made the ending to his movie 'you will meet a tall dark stranger' as open ended as he did or do you write (angry) letters to the director of the movie Memento saying that you didn't not understand what the movie was all about? Likewise, do you write to an author explaining why he or she made the open ending he did in his book?

"Shepard's story is now over" doesn't put any constraints on the nature of the endings though. The end of Shepard's story could be anything from his literal end to simply never getting involved in anything particularly important for the rest of his / her life. If they want no more Shepard stories they don't have to make them.
The galaxy part of it makes rather more sense and could be interesting in the future.

I think perhaps the impact of book or movie is different on the psyche than a game, in books and movies the actions occur without the active participation of the observer, where gaming is a completely different experience. Do I personally write letters to people who I feel dissapoint their fans? Sometimes, it depends. Often I find it easier to just not give them my money anymore if they continually show a tendency to dissapoint or present a vision I cannot agree with. Before all the haters jump on, yes I have a college education and yes I have a job and yes I was looking for tragedy and pathos. One of my favorite classical authors is Dickens and he is all about the tragedy of the human condition.

She says something else but I can't quote it word for word. Sly dig on BSN? hehe probably not but maybe

First Video up for Retake Mass Effect
The video is well edited, however, I'm not sure I would have put those points in there.
The franchise deserves a better ending. It deserves an ending that doesn't insult people's intelligence, defy the established story and that makes sense.
This vid puts too much emphasis into reuniting our Sheps with their loved ones and not enough in the blatant trollfest that was the Catalyst and the inconsistency with the rest of the game(s).
My 1st impression, anyway. I'll watch it again.

Mass Effect was the first time that I really saw that a game has a different sort of artistic potential than books, films, or music, as opposed to being just an entertaining diversion (even if it's often one I've spent a lot of time diverting on to). All can play with the emotions but the more interactive nature of a game can take that further. The problem is that some groups just start labelling people as sad, nerdy fanboys if that works when they'd never do the same for someone who said they were moved by a piece of music.malra wrote...

Same, these points are kind of embarassing to make.

Those two percent deserve something that pleases them. I'm not keen on a world where everything must appeal to the largest number of people. The problem only arose with the abrupt turn that meant only 2% of those who have been pleased up to that point were left pleased.aLucidMind wrote...

oh I don't know for some of us those points are of outmost importance. you are of course free to make your own video and add it to the campaign. the more the merrier (no, I'm not an author of that video)

Look I have even read about players who will be happy to PAY for a dlc to fix it! Hello Bioware? A chance to make even more money?? Its a win for them and a win for us.
(Personally I believe we shouldnt have to pay for some more ending choices though but I will if neccessary!)

Yes, but that video does not reflect us as a collective group effectively. If there is going to be an "official" video for the movement, it needs to make ALL the points with equal strength, this dodges some of the core problems of the endings and by doing so actually emphasizes what the press has going against us.
Furthermore, all it does right now is look "flashy" and try to make an impact without making any concrete points.
As it is, it's easy to dismiss.

Exactly. If I go to the see a production of Lakme (an opera) and I am brought to tears by the presentation of the flower duet nobody questions it. If I go to a prodution of Lakme and leave before intermission and ask for a refund because the headlining soprano was unable to perform and her second just wasn't up for the job - well, nobody would act like I had commited a crime or was an imbicile. The best gaming experience can transcend any other form of storytelling because it allows all of us to actively become the part of the story not just an observer.

its a version, not a final. and while not all points are listed in a video, I don't beleive the points made should be removed. because they do adress some of us.SolidBeast wrote...

I edited my post. I never stated that those points should be removed. Quite the contrary, actually.
But they need to be worded in a way as to have weight.

If I thought the ending was as weak as ME3's, I would. And this is coming from someone who loved Memento's ending. All the relevant plot threads were explored to the end. My problem isn't the desire to make the ending open or closed, happy or tragic. My problem is that, whatever they were attempting to convey, I think they failed to convey it.

If you ****** off most of your customers, leaving only 2% satisfied, that is not a good thing. Do it enough times and you can expect to go out of business because they do not trust you to make a quality product. Out of 31,000 votes, only 800 say the endings are fine. That says that the 2% have low standards and that there is something wrong that is noticed by 98% of the people who have finished.Reorte wrote...

It also doesn't help that this is an issue of false advertising as well because their endings were the exact opposite of everything they said they would be and, in some cases, spitting in the face of the claims they themselves made about the endings.
